      Reveal hidden contents

He does in Mashiro's, which is the only route I've finished so far, but it's just mentioned briefly rather than something that's actually a part of the storyline.

I see, thats a bit sad.

Doing Misaki's route now, she's a bit annoying at the start of her route, hope she gets less depressing :sacchan:

  2. Finished a route atlast, man Rika is just adorable isnt he :Chocola:. I liked the pacing, route didn’t feel too bloated, i thought it would be unnecessarily long. Even the FC matches dont drag on too long, impressive that they managed to balance it

Btw if anyone can tell me without spoiling too much

Does Masaya actually return to flying in any of the routes? Is it just Asuka’s? It was a bit weird Rika never told him “ok now i’ll solve your problem!”

Don't quote me on that because I have no source, but I am pretty sure I read somewhere that sprite didn't go under but decided to stop making VNs, to seek more profitable work elsewhere. (mobile games?) I think it was on twitter or Discord where someone more familiar with sprite or the Japanese industry wrote that, but I would be happy if someone could point me to a source that prove or disprove what I just said.

I think they declared bankruptcy like 5 months ago? I cant confirm though. As for VNs, they barely make any so ofcourse there's not gonna be much profit. The ones they made were fairly popular in Japan and won some accolades so its weird they made no effort to make more

They mentioned something about the industry declining 15% per year. I don't know how accurate those numbers are, but it's probably safe to say that Aokana didn't sell well enough compared to the development costs.

They released the previously mentioned Perfect Edition and Extra 1, which serves as an after story for Mashiro and is in the process of being localized by NekoNyan, but other than that, they never got the chance to release anything else.

While we won't see anything more from Sprite, it may not necessarily be the final nail in the coffin for Aokana. To quote an article from ANN:

"sprite noted that it is not possible to "revive" the company, and the company has no plans for crowdfunding. sprite also clarified that there is no possibility of producing new works and continuations of old works for sprite, but noted in a Twitter post on January 30 that, following the sale of its IP and brand, that the IP may be revived by a different company with different staff."

I have no idea what it would mean for the overall quality of the VN if a different company/staff takes on a new Aokana project, though.

Oh well, we'll have to see what happens with that. I doubt we'll get anything but the demand for Aokana is certainly here judging from the massively successful kickstarter. Its sad though, sprite makes a lot of interesting characters, like the Sensei in Koichoco and Madoka in Aokana and never does anything with them lol

You'll probably see it quite a lot in VNs you read from now on! The Monster Hunter series has been huge in Japan for a long time now, so it's a pretty common reference!

yeah I know, I only ever played the psp version like 12 years ago but psps were rare in my country so didnt really have anyone to play with other than my one neighbour so barely remembered anything before playing World

Another quick impression - this VN does "anime episode format" thing pretty well - there's no annoying OP replaying, but there are nice previews at the end of each chapter, and I absolutely love those "eyecatches" (they are animated):

    aokana-eyecatch2.png

Those chibi portraits really capture girls' personalities :D

Yeah the Chibi art is used pretty well with the comedy, like when Madoka was left out of their game session or Mashiro couldnt control her flight :wahaha:

Madoka also deserves a route, she's hilarious and love her voice actress

That is how customer feedback works in any industry. Let's say you got 1000 customers. 100 of those come to you and tell you that the starters served there suck ass. Then you get positive feedback about the same starters from around 20 people, who however hang around the restaurant all the time and are friends with your chef. Of course, the chef and his buddies like it as well. You either need to act based on the feedback you got or gather more feedback. Customer complaints in general come from a very small percentage of overall customers, but normal companies usually do their utmost to do something about it. Now, this is even more pronounced in a niche industry such as eroge localization, where you get only several thousand regulars.

But we both know you will ignore this and revel in the likes you received from the aforementioned echo chamber.

100 of them can tell them whatever they want as long as they are selling and hitting their target goals they wont bother with the “feedback” from the loudest minority

How do u know they wont receive even more complaints if they act on those feedback? Stop assuming so many things

  6. Just started playing this a bit, some thoughts:
The art really is beautiful, from character sprites to backgrounds, they didnt half-ass anything. The world feels alive and not just confined to the MC and his heroines lol (Those 1440p assets must be big tho...game is like 9.3 gb is size)

They also learnt from Koichoco, no bitchy unlikable heroines :mare:, might not have to mute someone/skip someone's route completely :wahaha:

Masaya seems to be a good protag as well. Too bad sprite went under, they barely released 3 games

I can only really guess at what it isn't... it probably isn't the Trinoline FD or Sonokemo.  My reasoning is that those two are the IPs most likely to have been caught up in issues with creditors when Minori went under...

Incidentally, I'm glad Minori is gone... their protagonists were almost universally idiots who reminded me of Shinji from Evangelion (hetare+nibui+constantly saying the wrong thing at exactly the wrong time).  Shinji-type protagonists go beyond irritating into actively making me want to smash something (Soreyori no Prologue was particularly bad about that, since the protag completely misses why he is breaking the heroine's heart in the beginning of the game).

The only game I liked without reservation by the company was Eden, lol.

Yeah, Protags are stupid and not just that their world building is so bad, like in Trinoline no one exists in the game except MC and his heroines and a few sub characters, it felt really off.

I only liked Ef from them and that too mostly the routes that didnt have one of those annoying twins as heroines

I loved Sakura Sakura (probably more than Fureraba, and certainly more than SukiSuki) - it somehow clicked for me, but haven't read Newton yet - the premise doesn't attract me immediately, and it indeed is quite expensive, and never gets any decent price cut during Steam sales, so I haven't bought it so far.

like I keep saying, maybe you did but I didnt and seems like a lot of people didnt so that was my whole point

Why most of people here thinks that Newton is strange title? I knew about that game and was surprised about localizing... And that game seems good with nice art and story. I don't understand, what is wrong...

its nothing spectacular and it was boring for me. You can compare Sakura Sakura/Newton to like Fureraba or Sanoba Witch, see which got more hype. (looking at initial releases by recent companies) I dont remember the numbers for Nekonyan but it was decent.

Also Newton costs $57 for me(compared to most vns $40 and under), why would I pay that for a VN that doesnt really look any interesting? (Main girl is a loli, no ty, Also MC seems like an idiot judging by vndb). I buy triple A titles on release date ish with that type of money lol.

Same with Sakura Sakura, delayed over 6 months and not that interesting of a premise. The multiple protags didnt really work. Atleast not for me. If you liked any of these two good on you I guess but most of us didnt clearly.
