Prose is the most overrated thing among the 'elite' VN readers

How the hell is slightly changing the way you write words about a story going to overall change how the story/characters actually play out? Some details are different but its the same thing

Hmmm. Well how about you imagine a movie that you liked, but all camera work is replaced by a static 45 degree downards facing camera 3 meters above each scene, for the entire movie.
Nothing about the story or characters would have changed, it would still play out the same. Would your enjoyment be the same? Would that emotional scene still have the same impact if it's kinda hard to make out the characters expressions and body language because of the awkward angle? Would that blood pumping action scene be the same with you stuck up in the corner?

The prose of a piece of writing serves a similiar purpose to what camerawork does for a movie, it's about the framing of the story and characters. It can make the mundane gripping for a moment. The fantastical, dry and boring.
Compared to books, visual novels have a bit of a crutch for poor writing in the form of BGM, voice acting and well, visuals, the writing however still holds significant power, even should you not notice it.

Talk about phoning it in. I can't decide if this was worse than Magical Marriage Lunatics or not, but it's at least the same level of low-effort mediocrity. Constant bad translationisms, frequent absolute nonsense, shitty English, the works.

Don't know why MG keeps doing shoddy work on relatively big-name titles like this one. Oh well, at least Evenicle and Sorcery Jokers got good TLs, among MG releases I played this year. I just wish they'd focus more on consistent quality for titles like this, especially since this one happened to be so firmly up my alley.

I was suprised I didn't see anyone mention this until now, considering how people go off on comparatively smaller issues with some of Sekai's TLs.

The TL for Hapymaher and Magical Marriage Lunatics aren't unreadable, but they read poorly enough that it had a negative impact on my enjoyment at least.
I also saw some TL errors in Hapymaher pretty much making someone say the opposite thing, "reappear" becomes "disappear", "unsuprising" becomes "suprising", "had me guide" becomes "I was guided".
Those are probably noticable even if you don't know japanese, since they contradict the surrounding conversation and/or context. So it's a bit suprising they made it through QC and such.

Overall I also quite liked Hapymaher though, and my opinions on it are pretty similar to yours.

How is the protagonist in this one? I'm thinking about starting this after finishing up if my heart had wings. I don't need to much, but a semblance of personality is a must.

Ohh and a vague spoiler which i don't mind. Does the grand route have a heroine? One pet peeve of mine is doing heroine routes and having a slice of life true ending.

The protagonist is an emotionally stunted, traumatized kinda person. Other than that, he is very straightforward and serious I suppose.

Maitetsu is kinda unusual I would say, I haven't finished all the routes yet, but it's heavily focused on business operation and politics, also kinda unexpectedly I don't remember there being any comedy whatsoever.
It's also involves trains of course, and some drama.

If you just want to romance trains, and think cute girls talking business strategy, funding options, shareholding companies, election stratagies, train repairs, etc. sounds boring. It might be a hard sell, but if not, I think it worth a try.

I suppose "Maitetsu" has a bit of that sense of building towards something that "If my heart had wings" has too. Gliders in the later and economic stimulation in the former.

Another reason for leveling up everybody: (it is a spoiler, but I can't remember when it triggers)

      Hide contents

The arena will at some point unlock combat where only a specific character is allowed. There is one for each character (more or less), meaning you can't neglect characters if you want to beat the arena.

Oh yea I think I remember Suina getting absolutely destroyed there for me :wahaha:

  5. Does this become the 4th, 5th? Mahoyo translation project? :wahaha:

Seriously?? I figured it just dropped from everyone's radar after Commie announced their hiatus (editing problems I think). But I do hope to make the project yield all of Mahoyo's charm points, hehe.

It did make it on Mangagamers 2017 licensing survey: NSFW possibly.

I've already explained it in my first post here. They release a broken mess of a VN and make a profit out of the customers knowing full well that it's broken. Then, once complaints start circling about the VN, they take it back and make the "fixes", and sell it again, essentially attempting to gouge more money out of the same customers who originally bought it. It's already been said in the "update" that it won't be a simple patch, but a complete re-work on the entire VN engine. If they do sell the fix, it's only going to create further problems.

So what you are claiming is that you don't belive they will provide a free patch for the people who bought the game, and instead release a separate V.2 which you have to buy again?
That would indeed be a scummy move, but I very seriously doubt they would do something that ridiculous.

It's a very practical, but unethical, business scheme employed by most AAA game publishers today to make more money. Sekai Project is basically doing the same thing those publishers are doing, and it hass become such a pattern that I would hardly chalk it up as just "incompetence". I know this all too well from experience.

And how does this scheme work? They aren't selling the fix?

  8. 5 minutes ago, EastCoastDrifter said:

Really, their "update" just exposes that they'll release a broken or unfinished VN in the market, make a profit, then take back the VN after complaints are made and "fix" the VN for further profit. As if the blatantness of the post isn't obvious enough.

Are you implying that they get more money by releasing it broken first and fixing it later? How would that even work?

EDIT: People were saying that SakuSaku translation is rather shit, right?

I wouldn't say it is. The only thing I've actually seen people point out is the translation of one the side characters way of modifying the MC's name.
I remember seeing a few issues myself; like icha-icha being translated as make out, even when it's not very approriate. Also the tagline or whatever you would call it, while it was fine when it came up in the dialogue window, it's a mess in the main menu and OP — I think that might have been the developers though.

Unless I'm forgetting something, it was pretty minor stuff.
