If your looking for older female heroines, you might have get into old school Eroges/Visual Novels if you're willing to tolerate it the old art, but you'll eventually find what you're looking.
Secret Wives Club: As the title implies, heroines are compose of housewives and it's your job to spice up their boring sex life. it has light NTR elements I suppose
Crescendo: I think there's two adult heroines in this VN/Eroge. Your Older Step Sister and the School Nurse. It has a nice story too!
Amorous Professor Cherry: two adult heroines including the protagonist's professors and a classmate.
There's plenty more, just try going here and here...
    Have Fun!

    Hello everyone,
I'm here with a progress update after 2 months XD.
I've translated all the scripts of the Eushully room and the text for the terrains and obstacles.
With this, I've translated almost all of the text (not counting images XD). There are only a few minor files for the voice actors and stuffs left. If I can find the time, I'll probably be able to finish them within this month.
Also, @frontier14th, thank you very much for your support, but you don't have to check back everyday for an update XD. I usually post an update around the middle of each month, so you can just check back around then. Or you can follow this thread to get a notification whenever there's a new post.
Well, that's about it this time,
Thank you for reading, and see you next time ^^.

How do you define "older"? Older than the protagonist? in her 30s? 40s? Well, from the ones I've read:
     - Masumi in Kazoku Keikaku (Family Project)

    - Margit in Majikoi S

     - Misato in Yukizakura

     - Ayame and Kaori in Crescendo

     - Ayumi, Kaori, Mitsuki and Eriko in YU-NO

     - Nanako in Sakura Sakura

     - most of the heroines in Mugen Yasoukyoku (Nocturnal Illusion) - Mistress, Miwako, Maya, Sari and Yukina

    - Ayame from Konosora could perhaps qualify too (she's few years older than the protagonist)

    Hey, folks!
This episode we talked a bit about our journeys into reading visual novels in Japanese with a guest who is no stranger to the medium, /u/Cornetto_man. Reading in Japanese is a pretty daunting task when starting from square one, and there's a lot of information about getting started out there. So of course, we decided to put our own thoughts to words on it. It's definitely not for everyone, and can feel like an uphill battle at times, but for fans of the medium, it can be incredibly freeing to open up the entire history of the medium, and also be able to stand waiting for the newest releases without needing to wait for a localization company to pick it up and eventually release a translation. If you're on the fence about getting started, maybe listening to us chat about it can help you make up your mind!
As always, feel free to comment on the cast below.
There’s also a list of Japanese resources at the bottom of this post:

Deniz reacted to adamstan in [project] Sakura no Kisetsu Ren'py remake project
For me, Sakura no Kisetsu is a classic. However, it's a bit unapproachable now, with old engine and awkward adventure-gameplay system - which is much more annoying than, say, YU-NO. As I wrote recently in recommendations thread:

Well, sometimes I do things on a whim, and shortly after writing the above, I decided to give it a try Actually it's quite fun for now - writing things in Ren'py is almost like directing your own puppet-show .
The goal is to rewrite Sakura no Kisetsu into standard VN structure with branching choices system - getting rid of the "look/think/talk with everything to trigger next scene" system. I do this by arranging texts from various "think" "look" and "talk" sections into the order that gives the best flow (and inserting small connecting bits in between where absolutely neccessary). I also plan to re-edit it or partially retranslate the lines that annoy me too much
As I see, Brazilian Portugese translation uses similar approach, but they used assets (graphics and music) from the remake, which I'm not too fond of - they are very blurry, while the pixels from dithering are still very visible, so it's like the worst of both worlds . I'm working with assets from PC98 and DOS versions. I also plan to have switchable soundtrack, with all three versions available:  PC98 - original FM soundtrack, GS - PC98 MIDI music replayed with SoundCanvas soundfont and AdLib - PC DOS version FM soundtrack.
While browsing graphic files extracted from both versions I was surprised. I expected Japanese PC98 version to have mosaics (and if such were the case, planned to have mosaics on/off switch in the options), however, the version that is floating around the net is uncensored. Probably somebody hacked files with HCGs from English PC version into it? Graphics and scripts formats are identical between two versions, only music files are different because of different sound hardware.
I looked at files more closely and yes, it seems that some CG files were replaced - while all graphic files from PC98 have 1996-04 dates, HCGs have 1999-10.
For now I have ported first two scenes - talk with parents in Shuuji's home and first meeting with Reiko on the way to school - complete with music and sprites with facial animations, just like in the original Some preliminary screenshots coming in ~12 hours.
Of course for now it is all pretty basic - just full-screen background and standard ren'py textbox. I'm still not sure whether to go with that approach, or try something more like in the original, with borders etc, and the actual scenes taking just small portion of the screen? Also, I'm still not sure how much smoothing (if any) should I use while converting backgrounds and sprites. But we can discuss that when there are screenshots.

*I'm not sure in which subforum should I place it. It's clearly not "Original Visual Novel", it's also not exactly "Translation Project" (although probably some translating will be involved). Well, I hope our mods will help me by moving it into most suited section.

Which would you consider the 4 most important (not best or favorite) VNs of all time? Trying to be objective and japanese-centric based on what i've heard about the history of VNs my choices would be:
YU-NO: Helped define a VN as it's own genre, by combining adventure game and dating sim elements.
To Heart: Had one of its' songs make it to japanese radio and likely started the "top eroge songs" trend that is on the japanese VN community to this day.
Kanon: Became so famous that it pretty much jumpstarted the VN community by itself.
Higurashi: Was the first VN to reach big mainstream appeal beyond the VN genre (Clannad, School Days, Steins Gate and Fate Stay Night followed after).

    Too much Moe for me.
Seriously 4 of the 5 games are light-hearted SoL, Comedy and Romance VN's. At the first impression they all look like standard moege VN's with a cliche story.
I mean it's okay if they want to bring out more VN's to the west but they shouldn't just focus on one type of VN's.
It's just like they want to say: "We should just focus on one target-group!" ...
In my case I would be more happy with more Drama and less Comedy or a unique Romance VN with a great story. I am not really a Fan of too much comedy without a story or with just a complete SoL & Romance VN where nothing happens till the end.
Like I said it's okay if they want to bring more Romance VN's to the west but for the future I hope they pick more interesting VN's.
Before we start to think about the future we should wait if the translation is actually good.

At the moment I am just interested in Sonoba Witch and Hello, good-bye. In the last few days I started to read Dracu-Riot and I really like this game. Altough I hate Noble Works. But Yuzusoft did actually a good job in Dracu-Riot and I am quite looking forward in their other games.
Hello, good-bye seems like a interessting romance VN with a good story.

So far from what I've played of it, it's pretty good... as a rapist protagonist nukige. One of the better nukiges in this category methinks. Though, I wish it had more real plot but alas, I know I'm asking for too much. That being said, quof did a good job with translation, so I have nothing to really complain about.
To each their own I guess. Though to be honest, I believe that comments like "Why could they not have translated something else" are in bad taste. Obviously, they wanted to translate this (for free) and not something else. Maybe they didn't want to fan-translate another mindless moege (that we already got a plenty of so far) and instead wanted something more hardcore. Why would anybody specifically want to translate any VN that you want to see? That's not how fan-translation scene works. Translators work on titles they are interested in and those titles aren't always popular with the whole VN community. There are VNs for everybody.

... aside from Japanese, which I assume every one of us here is pretty fond of
So I had this idea and thought that could be interesting since from what I can see we are a fairly multicultural community. That should ward off the stereotypes or at least level it out somehow.
So, with your consent, let's get started.
As a huge language nerd that I am, I cannot for the life of me list all the languages that I happen to like, but let me at least call out some names, soshite, kono forums wa weeb dakara, let's weeb it up a little by providing some animu songs as samples.
Arabic: I love its sound to bits. So badass yet so beautiful. The grammar is nothing short of amazing, you've gotta love semitic non-concatenative morphology.
    Song
Slavic languages: particularly Czech, Polish and Russian. A lot of palatalization and sibilants, along with monstrous consonant clusters. They sound elegant, rich and complex but also sweet and cute.
    Song Song 2 Song 3
Hungarian: I like slavic, and Hungarian phonology, in spite of the fact that it doesn't have any relation to the slavic family (it's finno-ugric) kinda has a similar touch to it. That aside, I'm a big fan of agglutinating languages with vowel harmony.
    Song
Turkish: have I said that I love agglutinating languages with vowel harmony? Besides, Turkish grammar is incredible, probably the most regular language on Earth.
    Song
Chinese (mandarin) : I'll be honest with you, for the most part of my life, I didn't like chinese at all, nor any tonal languages for that matter. However, due to repetitive exposure and interest in its grammar, little by little I grew to like it quite a bit. Nowadays I find chinese to be a fascinating language with a ton of amazing linguistic features. Don't let the basic appearance of its grammar fool you, chinese is a very complex language at heart.
    Song
German: fairly typical right? Everyone loves German these days. I guess it's the trend right now, probably born due to the number of german bands that started to crop up during this century. Not my case anyway. For me German sounds magical and unique. It's my favorite germanic language along with Icelandic.
    Song
Aaaand I'll stop here. There are a lot more languages that I'd like to talk about, like Welsh and celtic languages, Icelandic,  Swahili, Hawaiian, Nahuatl... But the list would not end and sadly I can't provide weeb stuff of those
Now it's your turn. Let's see what you guys like, it should prove to be fun and interesting. Also, if you are ok with it, I'd be nice to know what languages you already speak, in order to see how this affects your taste. For the record, my native languages are Catalan and Spanish.

Hey everyone! It's been a little longer than anticipated, but the seventh episode of the Broadcast Club is finally out!
    http://thebroadcast.club/2017/09/18/episode-7-popular-visual-novels/
We talked about popular VNs on this episode with the one and only, Cornetto_Man a long time member and moderator of /r/visualnovels. Cornetto has read a ton of VNs, so he was an awesome addition to the cast this time around.
Nope, we didn't forget about the cast, or decide to stop doing it or anything. A number of factors led to delaying this latest episode nearly an entire month from our target date. Unfortunately, that's just how it worked out this time. However, we should be back on track now! I was contacted by a few people over the last few weeks asking about it, and to anyone who didn't reach out to one of us asking about the next episode, but was wondering about it, many apologies for the extended delay!
As always, thanks for listening, and we're always willing to hear what you have to say about the cast!
    Hope you enjoy!

As this cast was actually recorded in mid-late August, our news is a bit out of date on some points, but I felt there was value in leaving it in, so my apologies if Subahibi KS speculation is not particularly interesting to you anymore.

Why do you think certain VNs are more popular than others?
What VNs are you surprised aren't more popular or more highly read? What are your hidden gems that don't get talked about much?
How much does a VN's popularity play into your own reading choices?
With more companies shifting focus to the West, are you more excited about official translations of older titles, or simultaneous releases of new ones in both Japanese and English?

Just finished the first Utawarerumono.  That was certainly more interesting that I expected going in
First of all, I just want to say that the slice-of-life was sublime.  It never felt like the SoL scenes overstayed their welcome, they were written well enough to hold my interest, and they made me genuinely adore the characters.  Some of the best SoL I've encountered so far, actually.  It was a great way to relax after the plot and action-heavy sections.  Also, any SoL scene featuring Aruruu is instantly a 10/10.  Best girl right there  👌  I also want to commend Leaf for making a good guy protagonist with an actual personality.  Hakuoro felt like a real person instead of a generic nice guy to self-insert into.
I liked the combat quite a bit, even if it was pretty simple.  I really enjoyed pulling off full combos, and watching my A-Team (Touka, Oboro, Karura, Hakuroro, and a certain character that I can't mention because of spoilers) nuke the shit out of every enemy was really satisfying.  I'm sure that a lot of other people also had this problem, but when I first started the game, it ran at an incredibly fast speed, to the point where I could barely even see the combo circles, let alone react to them.  The only way I could fix it was to run Cheat Engine and use speedhacks to force the game to play at a normal speed.  If you encounter the same issue, I'd recommend doing the exact same thing I did.  Oh, yeah, I really didn't like the elemental system that much, tbh.  I'll never stop being irritated that the symbol for the water element is a lightning bolt, and that water is weak against fire.  Why
And finally, the story.  It didn't really impress me at first.  It seemed like a generic fantasy world with generic fantasy tropes, with random kemonomimi shoved in for moe appeal.  Man, was I wrong.  It's still kinda tropey, and it's possible to guess the main twist relatively early on if you've read enough fantasy, but it was still pretty enjoyable.  It's carried by the characters early on before it grows into itself, though, so if you're impatient, you might get pretty bored until about halfway through.
My favorite characters were Eruruu, Aruruu, Touka, and Genjimaru.  Aruruu best girl by landslide, with Touka in a decent second place.
    Gonna read Dies now
