  1. If you've ever read one of those wonderful VN game reviews saying "story was OK, but there was no gameplay, you just click on the screen to advance the text, 4/10", imagine that as a GOG curator (personal interpretation).
  2. Speaking from personal experience, GOG is not friendly toward Japanese indie games, especially visual novels. There may be some exceptions but it's clear to me they don't really want those non-games in their store. They're at least as bad in this regard than Steam was pre-Greenlight, quite possibly worse with their internal bias. As for the main topic, well I can't say too much and it's mostly speculation, but it's worth bearing in mind that most adult content of sexual nature is already forbidden in their terms of service. This has been enforced very laxly so far, but with the removal of any Steam-side curation with Steam Direct, and people pushing boundaries with new titles, it wouldn't surprise me if they've gotten fed up and decided to write actual internal guidelines (good luck getting them to share those), which may have turned out stricter than previous case by case judgments. There may be actual legal reasons (at least plausible threat of legal action for violating some regional laws for selling pornographic content either containing minors, or to minors) for this, though it'll never be more than speculation since they'd never disclose such detail. If anything, I've been surprised at what -has- been allowed in the marketplace over the past few years until now. I can't say I know the details of affected games' contents, but it seems to me we're pretty much talking about games that already self-censored themselves and released adult content as an off-Steam patch, and which haven't been just removed from Steam but given an opportunity to correct the content further, which should in this case just mean moving a bit more of the content into the patch, and shouldn't be an unreasonable amount of work.
  3. Kickstarter backer copies are going out as I write this, so if you backed it, expect something in your e-mail box within the next 1-2h!
  4. Thank you for the support, very much appreciated! We just updated the Steam demo to latest version, including dual language and new opening movie.

  6. Thank you! Very happy to have this out and curious see the reception - both as our first yuri game, and for the unique story.
  7. Thank you kindly! There's much more to the story, but I think you should get a pretty good idea from the demo whether you like the style or not. While it's a psychological mystery by nature, the story is more about the everyday going-ons and the characters than some single big twist.
  8. We just got a playable demo for our upcoming yuri-themed visual novel SeaBed up. To play it, just navigate to the Steam page and click "Download Demo". The demo features around the first hour of gameplay from the visual novel and focuses on two of the main characters: Sachiko and Takako. The upcoming release (as well as the demo) has English and Japanese language options and its graphics have been upgraded to 1440x1080 resolution, with support for multiple resolutions. The game's currently being reviewed by Zakamutt on behalf of Fuwa, so you can look forward to some impressions there too, but in the meantime why not check it out for yourself? The full game is out December 19. The full game has an estimated playtime of 20-30 hours. Synopsis SeaBed is a critically acclaimed yuri-themed mystery visual novel told through the perspectives of three separate characters: Mizuno Sachiko, a designer plagued by hallucinations of her past lover; Narasaki Hibiki, Sachiko's friend and a psychiatrist researching the workings of human memories; and Takako, Sachiko's former lover who has been rapidly forgetting her past, including how or why the two women drifted apart despite being together since childhood. All three live in different worlds, but seek the same goal. To separate truth from illusion. To make sense of their own lives. I'm personally super excited for the game, and looking forward to your impressions!
  9. Big news - the all-new Chuusotsu side story, Chuusotsu - 1.5th Graduation: The Moving Castle stretch goal has been funded as well thanks to BackerKit efforts! Many thanks for the support, and if you missed the campaign, you can still join via pre-orders from the link above.
  10. We are now funded! Thank you for the support. Trying to hit those stretch goals now with 3 days left in the campaign, for new event CGs and a new side story.
  11. We finally have a playable English language demo out for Chuusotsu! You can download it directly from this link. Obviously not a final build yet, but it should give a pretty good idea of the game already. Looking forward to your impressions!
  12. With funding at over 85% and us approaching the final week of the campaign, we updated the stretch goals (making the event CG rewards cheaper) and revealed the remaining stretch goals, including funding for an all-new side story Chuusotsu - 1.5th Graduation: The Moving Castle. We also already unlocked one free event CG from the Thunderclap campaign, and if we can get 70 more Supporters there in the next 6 days, a second CG will be added too. Quite a few of our backers have said they come from Fuwa, so... thank you all
  13. We just added a Thunderclap campaign for Chuusotsu, with a social stretch goal of 100 supporters! If the goal is met and the campaign's successfully funded, a new event CG will be added to the game free of charge! The best part is that you don't even need to be a backer to help make the game better - all you need to do is support the Thunderclap campaign, which will send a single message from your chosen social media account on May 27th.
  14. By extremely popular demand, we now have a limited physical Collector's Edition for Chuusotsu - 1st Graduation available in the campaign too!
  15. Thank you for checking out the project, much appreciated! The Kickstarter page has just gone live, and you can get some cool exclusive physical goods there that we'll only be able to produce via the Kickstarter (as well as a big discount on the game!)
  16. The Kickstarter campaign for Chuusotsu will launch on April 25! We've gotten a fair bit of good feedback and have been ironing out the details. And we'll keep doing that, so don't hesitate to still leave a comment if you have any!
  17. Updated the project page with more preview for physical goods, as well as the first stretch goals, which would add all-new event CGs to the game, naturally made by Studio Beast themselves.
  18. We've updated the campaign page with previews for the all-new poster and stick poster artworks being prepared by Studio Beast, give them a look!
  19. Chuusotsu - 1st Graduation is getting a western release by Fruitbat Factory! We have a Prefundia page up for the upcoming Kickstarter project. It's a new all-ages visual novel by Studio Beast (NSFW link), the circle that made J.Q.V Jinrui Kyuusai-bu ~With Love from Isotope~. Chuusotsu is an HD wide-screen title and it's getting a dual language release (English and Japanese). This is our first Kickstarter project and we welcome all feedback with open arms! Here is some art from the game: More Art (spoilered for brevity):
  20. The feedback's been very useful, thanks everyone! We'll be putting it to good use.
  21. That's true, it's distinctly a question for visual novels more than other types of games, which is why we're only getting feedback on it now that we have more visual novels in the works, despite already having done a bunch of HD upgrades for other games.
  22. Naturally, high resolution art is always good, but as people have pointed out in the replies, not playing on native resolution will always cause some loss of image quality (albeit it'll be the smaller the closer your display resolution is to the game's resolution), so target resolution does matter. On the other hand, many people have expressed a strong preference for playing fullscreen or windowed for immersion or because they alt-tab a lot. The replies have been very helpful so far!
  23. We like to give games HD upgrades when circumstances allow it, but deciding on the target resolution that's most comfortable for most players is always a difficult question. One of the factors is whether people prefer to play their VNs in windowed mode or fullscreen, as I've seen plenty of cases for both ways. That's why I made a twitter poll to get some more data on it. If you have a preference, let us know! Detailed comments are also welcome.
  24. This is interesting. I don't think we'll see tolerable Japanese to English google translate for literature such as VNs in the near future (at least some decades - putting aside how horrible some actual translations already are, can't use those as an example, especially as they may already be using google translate...), but improved accuracy certainly makes it easier to browse Japanese resources and extract the important facts.
