  1. Yeah, some of these "spoilers" are actually incorrect so I think there are still a good number of surprises left for you.
  2. For me, a lot of the appeal of Umineko was the fact that it made you think to get the full value out of it. Not only does it ask you to think for yourself repeatedly, but it even stuck with that philosophy to the end by never fully spelling things out for the reader. I had a friend who casually (and perhaps mindlessly) read through Umineko, and he could not figure anything out, even by the end of Episode 7! Needless to say, he did not enjoy the novel as much as I did, likely because he did not put any effort into interpreting the novel. After realizing some of the truths behind the story for yourself, many aspects of the plot and characters that you previously took for granted take unexpected twists. It's very rewarding to figure these things out, and I feel that the amount of enjoyment you get of out this novel is proportional to the amount of thought you are willing to put into it. Umineko's style isn't for everyone, but for those who do like it, it's irreplaceable. Upon re-reading some of Umi, I found myself near tears at some of the magic scenes that initially seemed "silly" or "cool" on my first read. The amount of symbolism and foreshadowing is really astonishing. The actions and motives of nearly every character takes an entirely different light when you consider what must of REALLY happened behind the scenes in each episode, and that sort of character and plot depth really brought Umineko from "Excellent" to "Masterpiece" in my eyes.
  3. Finished Remember11 this morning. Anyways, I'd give it an 8 or 9 out of 10. Everything was fantastic except for the questionable ending. Going on vacation for the next couple of weeks, but when I come back I'll be beginning Muv-Luv!
  4. True, but on the other hand the majority of the paid DLC wasn't even worth buying to begin with, it's only really there for diehards. The extra classes + "final map" as DLC are really all that I found annoying.
  5. I have a ridiculous number of "favorite games," so I'm sure I'll forget something good... In no particular order: 1. Chrono Trigger 2. Paper Mario 3. Fire Emblem Awakening 4. Pokemon Emerald (Can't wait for the remakes!) 5. SMT: Strange Journey 6. Kingdom Hearts 7. Professor Layton and the Curious Village 8. Super Mario Galaxy 9. Dragon Quest IX 10. Okami
  6. Someone told me that "sexual comedy" is just a weird mistranslation of "eroge." Not sure if there is any truth to that though.
  7. Narcissu. It essentially tries to excuse the fact that it's an empty story by claiming that its "experimental" and "minimalistic." Not to mention the fact that the messages of the story are completely conflicting and make little sense. Admittedly, I did feel a little emotional at the end initially, but after stepping back and reflecting on what I had just read, I can't help but feel it was a waste of time.
  8. That was going to be my quote. They do say it quite a few times in Ep. 4 though, I've been quickly re-reading Umi along with my friend who is reading it for the first time. I noticed that quote coming up a lot more than I remembered.
  9. Finished G-Senjou no Maou and Steins;Gate recently. Spoilers for both: Starting up Remember11, I feel like getting some more mindscrew.
  10. Usually not a big fan of moe, but at the same time I haven't given it much of a chance either so that might change in the future.
  11. I quite liked Gosick up until the end of the Alchemist sidestory, but after that I feel it really went downhill fast. The historical fiction overarcing plot simply wasn't interesting in my opinion, and the ending was very predictable and unrewarding. The aesthetic and setting of the series was extremely cool, though.
  12. "My hips are moving on their own!"
  13. I'm quite confused, many people seem to identify the "scumbagginess" of the protagonist as their main issue with School Days. However, isn't that the point? A good character =/= a likable character. A good character is one that has depth and evokes emotions from the reader. Although I personally have not read/watched School Days, I know the basis of the plot and I am fairly confident that making you hate the main character is what the writers were going for.
  14. I honestly thought Kid's routes were the worst... not that they were particularly BAD, they just didn't really have the same impact as either of Takeshi's routes. IMO, Coco>Tsugumi>Sora>Sara>You. Redundance wasn't really a huge issue for me since I just skipped all repeated content.
  15. As others have mentioned, Kara no Shoujo and Saya no Uta. Kara is that sort of very realistic "dark" that makes the story genuinely creepy/weird at times... Saya is a bit more abstract, but still realistic enough that the dark themes have an impact.
  16. Yep, I'm going with Umineko as well. As a fan of the murder mystery genre (in ANY medium, really), Umineko's deconstruction of the classic detective novel was essentially the perfect thing for me.
  17. Umineko has my favorite OST of anything, ever. FS/N, Dangan Ronpa, and the Ace Attorney series also have consistently awesome soundtracks while Virtue's Last Reward has a few stand-out tracks. Some of my personal favorites from those VNs:
  18. Protagonist: Nishijou Takumi (Chaos;Head) Antagonist: (999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors)
  19. What comes to your mind when you see a NSFW tag? Porn, sometimes gore depending on the context. Do you think content like that is "bad" or is the whole hidding "non-public-friendly" material total BS? No, I do not think "NSFW" content is inherently bad. It is not, however, accepted by most societies and therefore must be hidden to appease the majority regardless of my thoughts. Would you like see that on the streets or is it better left hidden in the "dark corners" of the internet? It depends. Some "NSFW" content is purposefully repulsive and disgusting for the sake of shocking people. I would obviously not like to see this anywhere. For less offensive gore/nudity? Sure, as long as it's actually relevant in whatever situation it's put in. People should not be offended by the normal human body, nor should they be overly sheltered from reality. IF you have children would you/do you let them watch NSFW in their early ages? Would I personally allow them to view NSFW material? No, if only because that would be illegal lol. Not to mention that, again, society as a whole is not very accepting of this content and I would not want my children to be the odd ones out just to further my own selfish "agenda" against those who are too easily offended. When did you encounter your first NSFW experience? When I was 10 (I believe) I encountered a hentai game on a flash games website. This was before I knew what hentai was, I had simply decided to play it because the anime art looking interesting. IIRC, as soon as I go to an H-scene I freaked out and dropped my laptop. *Do you think Fuwa should be open to NSFW? Why? No, Fuwa should remain "family-friendly" for now. Considering I live with my family, I'd rather not have hentai popping up on my screen when I'm just looking to talk about or download some VNs. Anything else you would want to add? The fact that nudity is considered a taboo in society is ridiculous. Granted, I'm not really in favor of nudism or anything that extreme, but at the same time I really don't think people should be so offended about these simple things.
  20. Only titles of their's that I've played are Saya No Uta and Chaos;Head. Saya No Uta is a short (but sweet) horror/suspense story. Disgusting, shocking, and thought-provoking is how I would describe it. Pretty good, certaintly worth a read. Chaos;Head is a suspenseful murder mystery with elements of horror. It starts off fantastic, and the pacing is pretty perfect until the last 1/3 of the story which feels completely rushed. The super-otaku main character is probably my favorite MC from anything. If you can excuse the subpar conclusion, you'll likely enjoy this.
  21. Lesser known medium of storytelling that combines music and visuals to enhance and add to the traditional novel-reading experience.
  22. Yeah, I really disliked that scene as well. The H-scenes in the first two routes are totally uneccessary and actually pretty OOC for the those routes' heroines.
  23. The first true VN I read was Higurashi (just the first 4 arcs) and it really brought me in. Your first experience with a VN will certainly be jarring; prepare for pacing slower than anything you've seen before. It's worth it though. The slow pacing allows VNs to set up a really good atmosphere, create a believable setting, as well as establish various characters and their backstories. With every VN I've completed thus far, it feels really rewarding to spend time getting invested in the characters and story so that when the major plot kicks into motion you actually care about what's going on. Whether or not a VN is a "game" depends. It's a case by case basis for me. I would think Kara no Shoujo is indeed a game because of its extensive interactive elements while I would say Umineko no Naku Koro ni isn't. I finished Fate/Stay Night just yesterday, so I can give you some feedback on that in specific. The first route (probably around 15-20 hours of reading) is honestly not good. It's full of action shonen cliches and is generally just unsatisfying outside of 2 or 3 good action scenes. The other two routes are spectacular however, so if you think you can get through the slower first route then I'd say it's worth it.
