VNs are niche so I figure it's best to ask on a place like this.

Hey everyone. Thanks for all the comments, and for following the project.
If you haven't been keeping up with the spreadsheet, Eris's route has been fully translated as of last week, and is now in the QC/editing process.
I'll be working on the side stories next, before progressing onto the other main chapters. No word yet on a partial patch, but stay tuned!

First off: Get out, this is scarily similar to some of my experiences and im not even joking 
Secondly: Thats amazing! I never had any japanese classes offered at my school, we only had french. +1 for Saekano, Noitamin A did an excellent job with the crisp animation in the anime, but i sadly haven't watched s2 or read any VNs of it. But i do have a vita and might get em all if they differ from the anime 
 
Thirdly: Honestly any tips? Your possibly 2-3 years older than me and somehow im in the exact time frame where i wanna learn japanese haha, i have no clue about the symbols being used and anything, so id appreciate any tips on how to get properly started into learning japanese to a point where i can at the very least read and speak it  
 
Thats pretty cool haha, as stupid as it may sound, i never finished watching clanned after i guess ep5 because someone said the VN was years ahead, guess its the perfect time to finish it then! Also +1 for toradora, even the mc was wishy washy and jesus knows how i finished watching oreimo,  HenNeko was better than those 2 for me

Jokes aside, i have no clue why i never watched grisaia, i remember the anime coming out, it was fresh and i think i finished season 1

Haha why is it so relatable? Playing league and YS was my jam, anything thats an jrpg would keep me hooked for hours (i sunk in 150 hrs in Persona 3, and around 180 in Persona 4 golden). Needless to say i was an rpg freak, that considered turn based rpg superior to all genres! From DQ, FF, YS to any shin megami tensei game 
But basically i got bored with games to a point where i just couldnt even be bothered playing them, then moved to anime. And if you read my OP you know how i ended up with VNs!
What if i lied and i never played a single Vn as well? What if i just want to be  accepted! 

Okay, so let's say that one day you wake up and find yourself in the body of the protagonist for a Visual Novel. You have complete control of their actions and thoughts. Which Visual Novel would you choose and which protagonist would you choose to be?
For me it would be Tact Mayers from Galaxy Angel because not only do one of my favorite characters ever exist in that world, but the world itself is a futuristic utopia(when it's not under assault)
Other than that I guess I would choose Clannad because I match up well with Tomoya personality wise and I wouldn't mind being around the main cast(though I would friendzone Nagisa so fast)

It will just be me for now because I want to try hacking a game by myself, just to have some sort of accomplishment I guess haha.
Unless I get stuck to the point where I can't progress and nothing else is an option or someone else wants to join.
 
Progress
First of all I don't know where to start. This is my first time attempting anything like this because I want to try and be able to hack into games.
I have minimum knowledge on how these types of projects work. I know hex editing is involved where you look at compiled code and change specific values in order to change string output. That's as far as I know. And from what I can tell with this game, when the .exe file is opened in a hex editor, no human readable text is visible. 
First roadblock: Find a way see decode the script and figure out how to change the string values.
 
I have a solid understanding of Japanese already. I've played through the game multiple times already. There's nothing I don't understand in the written text.
 
I will also need to figure out how to extract assets from the main menu, translate them, edit the assets into english, and re-encrypt them.
 
Typing this out made me realize that this is probably impossible. But hey, I have nothing to lose, and it will be a great learning experience I hope.
 
I'll definitely be asking for help a whole lot in the Fan Translation Discussion forum when I get to work on the meat of the project. In the meanwhile I will be searching google for guides on more in depth hex editing tutorials.
 
 

It's been quite a ride but it's nice to see this patch FINALLY released. I've been following the project ever since I found out the true full ReTranslation was just getting started after seeing people disappointed with the original Restoration patch (though mostly with Ageha's route). I've always really wanted to read this VN ever since I first found out about it (shortly after finding /r/vns) since it seemed the type of VN that was made for me. Many times I considered just reading the original Restoration patch but now I'm really glad I waited.

Being able to QC for a project like this was really fun, I enjoyed working with all the main members of the project team. Seeing them hiring for fan QC on Fuwanovel to seeing the invite to getting into the secret project chat were really exciting moments for me since Software QA is my full time position and I love visual novels so doing this for a VN I wanted to read made it a dream come true to be part of some sort of VN translation project.

A reason why I'm glad I waited is I was able to have fun reading this VN for the first time while also finding bugs and other TL/grammar issues to point out and see fixed shortly after. Sure the flow of my reading was broken whenever I found an issue to write up but I just found it all the more fun. While I was initially assigned to only QC Ageha's route, I'm glad I was eventually assigned to QC the whole thing because it felt more right to do so since I could find issues potentially consistent among other routes and I would be even more anxious to read the rest of the VN after only reading the common and Ageha route.

I learned a lot about how QC happens in TL scene and I'd honestly like to to be QC for some VN TL project in the future, fan or official. I feel like I should learn Japanese so I can be like a secondary editor when QCing in case I find a potential discrepancy in the text vs the voiced line. Konsora/IMHHW meeting my expectations as far as how much I liked the VN story/character wise was nice too.

In any case, I hope you guys enjoy this up to date patch whether you get the one for Steam/MoeNovel or the one for the Japanese version (I'm really glad we took the time to test and make sure both versions work). Just expect a comfy feel-good charage with bits of drama/development and not much in the way of deep plot.
 

I'm hoping for another AliceSoft announcement at the very least. Something like BBH maybe?

For me,
10 = great story, great character, great music, GREAT ending, leave long lasting impression
9 = great story, great character, good music, GOOD ending
8 = good story, good character, good music, good ending
7 = ordinary story, ordinary character, ordinary music, ordinary ending
1 - 6 = Not recommended.
 
Of course, I also have soft spot and bias for certain things. Sometimes certain things weighed heavier than others.

It's not a derogatory statement about women. Porn stars are whores, that is literally their job. I am not at all implying that all women are whores, but whores are by definition whores. Think about it this way, would you want your sister or mother to work in the porn industry? Probably not right? Because it is degrading. Not just for them personally, but for their whole family. I was also implying that just because a woman is beautiful does not mean that her personality or morality matches that of her face. 
Good girls with moral standards deserve respect. Hell, the same is true of guys as well.
I think one of the most dangerous mistakes guys can make is to project their idealization on a girl, and ignore the truth about her. It is misguided to idealize women like Medieval poets did. These are my views at least. Feel free to disagree or agree, but that is how I feel about the subject.

It's not a problem of opinions - attractive people have certain opportunities that other's don't. Obviously, being attractive have its downsides, but many many more upsides and woman that are naturally very attractive usually have career choices open to them that are much more appealing than porn (which is, after all, heavy physical work with myriad of health risks and heavy social stigma involved). That's why you can notice that, in general, porn actresses are either average at best, or after so heavy plastic surgery that you can't really tell how they looked before. I've also noticed more attractive actresses sticking to solo sexcams or lesbian porn, as both are much less hazardous. There are exceptions of course, just as there are many porn actresses that weren't driven into the industry by a poor material situation or other circumstances that took away their chances for a "better" career. But just like with prostitution, we shouldn't romanticize it too much (even if I also disagree with the general sentiment of the OP).

VN translation is a niche and it's technically an industry.

Not really, when someone really good looking is doing porn I'm only happy that I get to enjoy their full glorious naked beauty in best way possible besides in person. If only ugly people were doing porn I doubt it would be much of an industry, of course what is ugly is somewhat subjective.

I have had similar thoughts, although not exactly the same. I don't really consider working in porn a "bad end", sure it may be for some, but I just see it as another job with a unique set of perks and disadvantages.
I do wonder how working in this industry affects the "normal" parts of daily life. Like how much of the "equipment" can be written off as work expense in their taxes? 

To be fair, we are talking about an industry that operates pretty much exclusively on the basis of appearance.
As for your question KainLegacy, I'm not really surprised. It could be dire financial straits. It could be personal problems. It could be a display of confidence, or an outcry, or a way of rebellion.
We don't know, because like most other professions and occupations in life, people adopt different lifestyles for different reasons. Who are we to judge so long as they're not hurting anyone?

she might actually like doing porn despite society looking down on it. not everyone goes into to porn because they have no other options. sometimes they genuinely want to do it.

Eien no Filena is one of the best rpg that i played on snes, for psx Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure was beautifull.

FONT AOLIGHT IS REQUIRED ALONGSIDE THE PATCH (PLEASE INSTALL INTO PC BEFORE RUNNING THE GAME)
Aolight is a modified version of Aozora Mincho Regular. I tweaked it so that the text could be properly displayed in the game, because the space for each letter in-game is displayed inside an invisible rectangle that cuts off the letters when they're italicized and need more spacing in their letter display. Make sure you have it selected at the game's Change Font menu. The wordwrap is tailored specifically to this font and anything else besides this will not work.

In all of these fan attempts, one fan patch, and Commie's silence on their entire Mahoyo project........here's my attempt, with the objective being: to finish it!
A modern-day teen witch becomes friends with an old-fashioned teen witch, and meets a boy hailing from the incredibly rural mountainside. And with that, the magic begins.

...Polishing it to a nice sheen with respects to its own gem of just your typical slice of life shoujo with a heaping whopper of magic thrown in so dazzling we have to stop and admire the assembly of a spectacular lightshow presented in visual novel format. Thanks Kirikiri! *heaves, out of breath*
In all seriousness: I have always loved this linear yet beautiful visual novel, so happened to be published by the company that released Tsukihime and the more renowned Fate/stay Night. It was a surprise to see that for once, this was for all ages. Not only is it pretty in visual terms (and I mean the art has improved), but the music is just fluid and breath-taking when accompanying the story. Props to Hideki Fukasawa, it's like the VN was made for his music. Or is it the other way around??
Let it not be said that creator and co-founder of Type Moon, Kinoko Nasu, doesn't drop a few ero jokes regarding Mahoyo. Maybe at some point, I'll share his comments going through the script files, cause it can get laugh out loud funny what he inserts for every semicolon.
