Help working with a BGI game
Infernoplex replied to DubstepKazoo's topic in Fan Translation Discussion
Sand's not the only one who picked up Senmomo. I know two other groups who also went for Senmomo. But whatever. If you all feel like working on the same VN, who am I to tell any of you to stop. I still think it's redundant, but it's your own time and energy at stake. You can ask Porygon to help you out with the engine side of things. He helped all BGI-related projects with the tech. -
Help working with a BGI game

There's already a fanTL of this VN in the works: -
repack dat file of maile engine

It's cursed because it's hard to work with. I'd just avoid any VN in that engine. Better aim for some Kirikiri VN or something. -

That engine is cursed. Pick up some other project. -

Help yourself out -
1) I have no hard feelings about this either way, as long as it's consistent throughout the translation of the work. So if the TLer decided to keep honorifics, they better stay there till the end. 2) Same opinion as with the honorifics. No hard feelings either way, as long as it's consistent and matches the tone of the character who's speaking it. 3) Depends on context. In some works, you can get creative about this. I guess "tsundere" would be fine to keep, but where does one draw the line? At "mayadere"? "Coodere"? Luckily, I don't think I've seen these rarer ones appear in dialogue or narration of some VN, but personally, I'm not sure I'd keep these if I worked on a VN where they appear. Some of these "dere" variants aren't as well known as "tsundere". 4) I prefer western order, for reasons. 5) Definitely something that doesn't need to be always TLed literally, except in cases where it makes sense for the character to speak that way (which rarely happens, really). Not saying one can't use "it can't be helped" for it, but I usually rewrite around it if I see it. 6) Same as with "shouganai/shikata ga nai". 7) Definitely 100% liberal. And it's the number one reason I hate puns in Japanese. They're the hardest to carry over in translation. You really need to find something in English that would work in a similar way. I'm not a fan of TL notes, so I'd rather see an English pun here instead.

You really know your way around with those tools! I'm impressed! -

From what I recall, yes, the game's script files are encrypted. Every VN in that engine has its own encryption or something. -
Looking for some engines to reverse
Infernoplex replied to SeleDreams's topic in Fan Translation Discussion
Glad you were able to solve the problem! I was about to suggest redownloading the demo from a different link, given how the demo works for me, but you already tried it yourself. Anyway, what do you think about the engine? Is it complicated to hack like I heard, or...? -

Hmmm... that's weird. I only have the full games, and they work just fine. Gonna try the demos now. Could be that their demo versions are borked. -

PurpleSoft engine, pretty please? You can even grab a demo of some of their titles, like Reallive or Seishun Fragile. Here's an incomplete list of titles using their engine. I did find some Chinese-developed tools that should supposedly work with their engine, but it only covers some older titles (that already got localized). -
Help With Hoshizora e Kakaru Hashi
Infernoplex replied to Brandon DC115's topic in Fan Translation Discussion
Why not just use VNR or something to machine translate it for yourself and call it a day? If neither of you knows Japanese, it's pointless to bother doing projects for any VN. -

FanTLing Yuzusoft titles is a bad idea. NN's under obligation to shut down every such project. But I guess they wouldn't care if it's not to English/Chinese, no idea -

Light needs many requests to translate Silverio Franchise
Infernoplex replied to Cyrno's topic in Visual Novel Talk
The one that comes to top of my mind right now is the promised combined version of Amentes Amentes and 18+ H-scenes. That never happened, and instead, you had to play both version separately. There were also some resolution shenaningans and CG cropping. There's probably more stuff, but this is what I remember at the top of my head. -
Why would you translate Flight Diary? Unless you wanted to TL the H-scenes, or reTL the whole thing completely, I don't see the point in it. Flight Diary was already localized by Moenovel.

Light needs many requests to translate Silverio Franchise
Infernoplex replied to Cyrno's topic in Visual Novel Talk
And that one turned out pretty bad in the end. Lots of promises that were made for Dies irae back then weren't delivered, and lots of people considered it a mess, complaining about how it was handled. Mind you, this was at the time light was still run by the original management. This new management seems even less competent, and honestly, I'd feel very reluctant to back a new Kickstarter, should one come. I'd gladly buy a finished product that has a proper localization, but I wouldn't throw my money at another Kickstarter potentially run by someone who can't handle the project. Also, this thing with petitions is sorta funny to me. Like, what's stopping pirates from also signing it up? Heck, what's stopping us to sign it multiple times under different names, LOL? I don't see how this would be a sure way to prove there's demand for it -

I hardly believe a petition by some rando would make a difference, LOL Light titles are expensive to localize, and from the looks of things, whoever's in charge of Light would rather self-localize than give it to someone else to do it for them. That is, assuming they even consider there's a high enough demand for Silverio and their other titles. And... quite frankly, I'm always suspicious of self-localization attempts. I know Dies irae was technically self-localized too (I think?), but that one at least had notable TLers like Steiner and GundamAce working on it. Who's to say that they'd hire people like them to work on it, assuming they even decide to go through with the localization? Honestly, I'd rather they let someone else localize it for them than risk a shitty localization for a great series like Silverio. I don't have much faith in whoever's in charge of light now.
