    Introduction
    Hello, Fuwanovel.
    I am Nandemonai.  Yes, the same Nandemonai from the PP/Jast forums, and the Mangagamer forums (back when they had forums).  A few years ago, I found out that the NI Renewal version is a thing, with improved gfx and voice acting.  Since Nocturnal Illusion is still my favorite game translated in the early years, I was interested.  I have some Japanese skills, so I thought I'd try my hand at translating the updated scenes.  This wasn't possible for two reasons.  1)  The remake breaks the scenes up into completely different file structure than the original; and 2) The original translation is just terrible.  Mostly unusable, and basically unsalvagable.  I'd known it wasn't very good, but was still surprised at just how "not good" it really was.
    Long story short, I decided to re-translate the entire game from scratch.  That was in 2011.  I finished up the translation some time ago.  Unfortunately, the coders I was relying on to reinsert the translation seem to have dropped off the face of the earth.

    Well, to be honest?  Right now (6/19/2016) there is no "team", there's just me.  However, I did not reach this point all by myself.
    I would like to thank Kagami-sensei for generously assisting me in translating various lines that were giving me trouble.  Kagami has touched < 1% of the lines of the game, but they're all the hard lines.  Thank you very much.
    I would like to thank the folks over at vilevn.org - BaSF, Fenris, and kile.  Without their assistance, this effort would have gone nowhere.  They showed me how to extract the text from the original Nocturnal Illusion.  They extracted the text from the remake (which involved finding existing tools, and then fixing bugs in them when they didn't work right).  They sadly seem to have vanished.  The last communication I had from them was in 2014, where they hoped to have a new version of vile ready "in a few months".  Thank you guys very much for all the hard work.

    Coding: Need Humanity (0%)
    This project is now recruiting.  I need coders capable of getting the remade script inserted into something that runs on modern Windows.  Also, while I did a second pass of the translation and edited on the way, it probably needs real editors.
    Update:  In the rollback, an edit to this post got lost.  Ryechu and Darklord Rooke have agreed to edit this, and Mad Pierre mnakamura has agreed to port the game to an engine he is working on.
    Misc
    Q.  Didn't you say the translation is at 100%?  Why 99%?
    A.  Yes, but there are a few minor nits that - since I'm creating this page anyway - I might as well try to crowdsource some picks for.  More details to follow when I have time to post them.
    As it turns out, I was able to figure these out myself.
    Q.  What about licensing?  Doesn't Peter Payne have Nocturnal lllusion?
    A.  Indeed he does, and I approached him about an official release.  He informed me he hasn't got rights to the remake.  (I presume the original contract is somehow still good, but the remake needs rights that can't be gotten because the company hasn't existed in 15 years.  But Peter didn't say.)  Peter did say a fan patch was okay with him.

    Weekly update!
     
    - I forgot to put it in last week's progress update, but Tay was still able to sniff it out on our website, so last week's numbers were correct.
    Anyways, the editor is back in business and has wrapped up the first editing pass, meaning editing is 100% at the moment as well, (not counting what will be done again when the retranslation is over.) You can track the detailed progress of everything but the retranslation here.
     
    - Retranslation: Currently sitting at about 50%, so we're halfway there.
     
    - IRL update: I have finally finished all my exams for this semester, and I'm now able to put more work into translating. I hope to have the retranslation done by the end of December. This is of course not a guarantee, so take it with a grain of salt. I'll do my best though!

    We hope to have done the translation of the common route by the coming first months of next year.

While I don’t want to spoil the specifics, I can confirm both my project prototype and database were completed and approved by the rest of the team. In essence, that means this project is about ready to roll, so please look forward to its launch later this month.
    Note to VN Devs: In the coming days/weeks we will be rolling out the listing standards and directed contact information. It’s difficult for me to track all of the devs which have contacted me on this issue, so please stay tuned for more information published to this site. I will not have policy or standards ready for you before that time.

    I’ve consulted with the math geeks who help me out each December, and I’m told the statistical models are ready. All that remains is for me to finish writing the surveys and pass them by volunteer editors for comment and feedback.     The games database will now focus on releases (original VNs; Licensed TLs; Fan-Translated Patches). My goal is to add entries near or at the same time as sitting down to complete VNTS posts.     The games database will now focus on releases (original VNs; Licensed TLs; Fan-Translated Patches). My goal is to add entries near or at the same time as sitting down to complete VNTS posts. By December’s end, my goal is to have all 2016 releases added to the site.  Lastly, while I do not have any progress to report regarding a true-database implementation, I can confirm that I am still actively working on this issue.
    For your edification, here is a nearly-complete listing of VN translation projects which were released in 2016. I believe we are missing only a handful.

    Sorry for the late post. I hardly even lurk here anymore. But InvertMouse, I've known you since I first started posting on this site. So to hear such bad news from you really does make me sad. It seems that you are successfully healing from this loss, and that is good to hear. The sadness this has caused you only means that your Dad was a good father and a person worth missing. Growing up with loving parents is a blessing. And unfortunately, their deaths have to come eventually. I haven't experience a loss of a parent, so I can't share any perspectives for you. All I can do is give you my belated condolences.

    Thank you so much everyone. I am back from the cremation ceremony, and as I mentioned last night, I really feel at peace. Maybe I'll curl into a ball later and cry at night, but for now, I'm ready to move forward.
    A lot of you lost loved ones when you were still kids. I can't imagine how I'd be able to deal with that. For me, I had my dad until I'm past 30, so I'd already call that good fortune. I'm independent, my dad's taught me a lot, and his death has taught me even more. Easily one of the most important person in my life. I don't care about celebrities. Guys like Dad are the ones I love and care about.
    My dad wanted a Buddhist style funeral, so we granted him that wish. Hearing so many people chant for him helped me settle my emotions. I still know nothing about spirits, but if the Buddha exists (or whichever God the individual has faith in), then the ceremony exists to say hey, please take this man's spirit back to your side, and whatever happens after that is up to the Gods. When I think of it like that, it's like the Gods have lent me this spirit for 70+ years, and now it's time for him to return to a better place. Maybe wishful thinking, but I can let it all go when I think this way. Perhaps some day I'll end up wherever he is now as well. I guess this is just part of the journey in our circle of life, assuming such a thing is real.
    The funeral staff handed us all tissues when it's time for us to say goodbye for the last time, but I didn't end up needing them. There were wet eyes but no tears falling. I feel so determined, so peaceful. My dad knows what dreams I have in life, and now I want him to watch me as I chase after them.

    Two years ago, today, I was pulling out all the stops trying to get Aaeru and Steve (the last two hold-outs!) to contribute a quote to Ryoji's Happy Birthday/Get Well card. He was pretty sick at the time, and we were all worried about him. Aaeru wasn't really good at that sort of thing, and Steve was still enjoying the thrill of being obnoxious ( ) (< 3 steve), and I pretty much had to ruthlessly guilt-trip them into oblivion to make it happen. I still remember sitting in my grandparents' kitchen thinking about how time was running out: it was 11:00 PM my time (10P Ryoji's time) and the card still hadn't come together. I was madly hunting Steve down (PMs, chat channels, email -- whatever it took), and Aaeru was "idk what to say O.O"-ing for an hour over it. But I was close. So close.

    ... aaaand it didn't end up coming together in time. THANKS AAERU ( ) (< 3 aaeru). But that's okay: I did end up eventually getting extracting the quotes and sent him the card a day late. I don't think he'd mind if I shared it, so here it is for the memories:
     

     
    Fast forward two years to 2015. A lot has changed. A lot has stayed the same (such as the Gravity Green 2013 theme for all of those who haven't sold out to be FuwaFabulous). I had this very weird moment as I logged in today to wish Ryoji a happy birthday and started typing on his profile page where I realized that just one program over -- one ALT+TAB away -- in OneNote I have charted the next year or more of Fuwanovel's future. I had this crazy moment of deja vu and nostalgia oddly juxtaposed against all of the new plans. There were a lot of complex emotions.
     
    So. What am I saying? I suppose I simply wanted to take a moment to thank everyone on Fuwanovel for being here. Yes, it's just a hobby site, but I've made a lot of friends here and I have a lot of fun together with you. I think a lot of us have funny little FuwaMemories like this we occasionally remember, and that makes me happy. The next few months are going to be bumpy -- I'm dealing with some new site issues which will be tricky to resolve (but possible, thanks to Nay's jedi guidance and help) -- but I promise to do my best to make sure Fuwanovel is here in another two years, and two more after that. After all, somebody has to wish Ryoji a happy birthday 'round here. : )

    I'm attending a funeral today as well, but my sense of loss isn't as pronounced as losing a dad. I'm so sorry for your loss.
    I think you noted something very wise in your OP. When we are faced with tremendous loss, the narratives we construct to cope are fragile. I don't know the depth of your mourning, but I've known you for a while and I've seen what a thoughtful person you are and can infer how difficult this must be. The only advice I can offer is to consider a stronger narrative -- that of your dad's life and how he lived it. The type of person he was when you knew him -- quirks and humor and warts and all the rest -- didn't die with him. That's something we give to those around us, and outlives us all.
    So what sort of narrative was his life? What would he want you to do this afternoon? Chances are, if you were close to him, he'd want you to let yourself mourn and feel whatever it is you are feeling -- without judgement -- and take things a day at a time. Today doesn't have to be a celebration if it doesn't feel like that to you -- you'll have years and years to grasp and celebrate what he left you.
    What this boils down to, I suppose, is that the celebration of your dad's life isn't -- and cannot -- be contained in an afternoon. It's going to crescendo in the years to come. Today? Today is for feeling whatever you end up feeling (even if that's numbness for a time), without judgement, and appreciating the coming-together of friends and family in remembrance of a good man.

    Thank you so much for your thoughts everyone. Sorry fun2novel, I couldn't like your post because apparently I can only like 10 posts a day. You are definitely on my thank you list!
    I am back home from the funeral, and while my eyes were watery all the way through, I don't recall shedding tears. That's a lie though, because I can feel the stains on my cheeks even now. It's like I've forgotten bits and pieces of the ceremony. Dad's no longer with us, and only now do I realize how many people he's touched in his life.
    Overall, my wounds didn't rip open, so I'm thankful for that. Seeing my dad's face again in that casket for the first time in a week hit me so hard. When he first got rolled in, there was a towel draped over his eyes, and of course one look and you could tell he just came out of the freezer. Just hurts so much to see the man who's held my hand and watched over me for 30 years will never move an inch again.
    After grieving and exploring so many thoughts, I somehow feel at peace. If spirits are real, I like to think my dad's is no longer in that body anyway. In fact, his spirit just so happened to have chosen that body to borrow for 73 years. Now that the body's failed him, it's time to leave and continue on. I'm willing to admit this is just wishful thinking for me to stay positive, but my mind wanders in that direction on its own. When I have that perspective, I truly feel ready to celebrate his life rather than drown in a constant state of mourning. It's also taught me to think deeper and not judge people based on looks, because these are just shells for us to use temporarily anyway.
    The cremation ceremony's on tomorrow. Maybe everything I said will backfire and I'll need my whole family to hug me. It wouldn't be the first time that's happened this week, but I hope it'll give me closure more than anything else. If I have the option, I'd like to be the one to press that button to send his casket into the flames, and my siblings will be alongside me of course. I'd like this to be the final form of celebration, the last expression of freedom. Dad told us he wanted to be cremated, so I want to have that honor of fulfilling his final wish. I hope he'll be pleased. My dad was one of those guys who's a softy but likes to say men shouldn't cry. I want to show him that bravery.
    I had a chance to chat with a lot of older folks this week. They can handle this stuff so much better than I can. These guys say funerals are just a send off, so there's no need to cling onto too much sorrow or regret. If spirits exist, we'll all reunite someday anyway. I do have a lot of guilt and plenty of regrets, but I love Dad and he loved me, so that's all I need to feel at peace.
