  1. Finished Annerose and I overall enjoyed it: decent action, good artwork and voice acting. Kind of wish it was longer to expand more on some of the side heroines. Still I can't help but wonder something...

    Spoiler

why did they even bother making Miki's H scene avoidable? The game pretty much assumes it happens regardless of your choice.

Help me out, please... (´ ▽ ` ) With the Golden Week Steam Sale going on, I’m trying to decide which visual novels to pick. I already picked Umineko - Answer Arcs for myself, but I’m also looking for novels to read together with my husband. He wants to buy Little Busters, because he liked the anime a lot, but we're thinking of picking that up on Switch instead.

I do have the wishlist narrowed down a bit:

    1. The Fruit of Grisaia
    2. Maitetsu
    3. G-senjou no Maou
    4. Baldr Sky
    5. Muv Luv
    6. Root Double

Which one is the safest choice? I’m trying to pick 2 of them. The visual novels shouldn’t be too long-winded and by this I don’t mean to exclude long stories, but rather those with a lot of back and forth arguing about theories and very slow story progression (slice of life is okay, though).

Mystery, a lot of choices and humorous games are a plus.

(If you have some other visual novel recommendations throw them at me as well, preferably ones that are on sale on Steam!)

Out of all of them I'd recommend Grisaia as your first choice, especially if you want humor as the common route may be long but it is very funny (especially Michiru's antics). Not very many choices in that one though aside from what route you go on (just don't play Yumiko and Makina's route back to back). As for the second one I'd recommend either G Senjou no Maou or Muv Luv; the former if you want some humor to go along with a bit of a thriller and also want the added bonus of the main antagonist being voiced by a before he was famous Jun Fukuyama, ironically doing what feels like a take on the later role that would make him famous :D, and with the latter if you want a slice of life comedy.

hmmm, thanks for giving a quick review about FF2, maybe ill just play when clear the lute story as well
im intersted about FF2 now cus your personal advice

It's actually best to play FF2 after you've played at least FF1 (I'd recommend playing it after Gaiden) since you'll appreciate a neat little reveal in the ending of one of the heroine's routes. Just make sure you play FF2 before you play Gaiden 2 because it references some things from the former.

  4. Most of the ones I'm looking forward to on this list are movies (FGO Camelot, Lupin, Gundam Hathaway and Goblin Slayer), but I am keeping my fingers crossed that the Uzaki-chan anime will be good since the manga is a nice mix of chuckles and fanservice (and source of some decent doujinshi).

You can always go for the dragoness. She's probably the most selfless woman of all as she likes him even without that pitiful excuse of squeezing his sperm for gaining strength. She is blunt, clingy, simple, doesn't uses protagonist as a mere tool for gaining more energy, unlike other heroines. She likes him just the way he is, whether he has any specialty or not. That feels more natural and not forced and repetitive like in vampire/yuki onna and oni route. There is no pointless melodramatic emotional baggage in her route + she's fun to be with. The Protagonist doesn't have to pretend being "always a nice guy" around her, and thus can honestly express himself.

Currently playing the game and definitely agree Seira is best girl hands down, in fact one reason it's taken me so long to get further in the game is because (by the walkthrough I'm following) it's going to be a while till I get more interactions and h scenes with her :sachi:

  6. Still enjoying what I've watched so far of Darwin's Game as the main characters are all enjoyable in both personality and how they use their Sigils. I'm especially liking how in battle they're smart about fighting and get rewarded for that. I really hope this gets another season.

Also I'm getting some enjoyment out of Kemono Michi Rise Up; when it's funny it gets its share of laughs from me. Unfortunately it does have issues with balancing comedy with the occasional time it wants to get serious, in one episode it kills what was a pretty funny joke by telling it two more times in a row and while I know it's unfair to compare it to KonoSuba (same author) for some reason its fanservicey jokes don't land as well as the aforementioned.

  7. Been playing more of Sengoku Koihime X and have gotten to the character interactions before the Echizen battle and I am liking how a lot of the character interactions are building up the harem arrangement Kuon puts together and Yuina managing it

    Spoiler

though the revelation she had superpowers all along and the only reason she didn't use them back in rescuing Shino was because she just didn't feel like it is a tad annoying.

About the only complaint I have is out of all of them Karasu and Suzume's stand out from the rest; basically for characters that just showed up it feels a little too early for them to suddenly want to be in the harem (though even Kensuke points that out) while another new character Shizuku seems to be more properly built up into it.

On the English end I'm giving Fureraba a try...and it took me several tries to get through its prologue as the comedy in it was horrible mainly in the dialogue somehow being too over the top even for a comedy, like it was trying way too hard to land a joke. Thankfully it gets better after the prologue where it tones things down so the humor fits with the characters better so the scenes can actually be funny. I'm doing Himari's route first and I am liking the in story scenes between them, though the conversation bits are pretty bland so far compared to those.

  8. Been watching Darwin's Game and caught up with the Crunchyroll release. So far it's a surprisingly enjoyable take on the death game genre where the main characters are actually likable, the action's good and the moment you see what special ability the main character gets you'll instantly know the creator of this series is probably a Fate fan :sachi:

  9. Gaming: Finding the time to play more of the Legend of Heroes Kiseki series, that Tsukihime remake actually happens and Suikoden comes back (and not as microtransaction phone game or pachinko machine like Konami is likely to do), an HD port of the Super Robot Wars OG games and the Z series that gets an English release (and yes, I'm aware of Harmony Gold don't spoil the dream :().

Anime: Second seasons for Baccano!, The Devil is a Part Timer, Gabriel Dropout, Hinamatasuri, Outlaw Star and Mazinger Edition Z. A new Getter Robo anime, the rest of Full Metal Panic gets adapted, a Trigun Maximum anime and a Crossbone Gundam anime.

VNs: Lune's games get localized, more Akabesoft2/Akatasuki Works games get localized

Reading: Aside from hoping to read the last two Song of Ice and Fire books I hope my favorite LN series: How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom stays good till whenever it concludes.

  10. For me it's a tie between two games I reviewed a while back: Super Secret Sexy Spy, for being crap even for a softhouse seal game:

    http://gamesforadultsandeveryone.blogspot.com/2013/06/games-for-adults-super-secret-sexy-spy.html

and Kansen Ball Buster, giving fans of the series a trifecta of awfulness in: a rushed out the door new story with an awful MC, a dead on arrival attempt at using a random assortment of  scenes from previous games as a commercial for the series ending on a confusing retcon the True Ends for Kansen 4, and the only new tracks of music for the game sucked.

  11. Been playing Senren Banka and so far I'm liking it, even though I'm still on the first chapter. The slice of life comedy is well handled, going well with the good voice acting and comedic artwork; the regular artwork is really good be it for the backgrounds and the characters (though I swear Mako looks so much like a Type Moon character design-wise she kind of stands out from the other characters) and so far all the characters are likable. My on worry is...

    Spoiler

now that they've introduced the supernatural stuff with the town curse, I'm worried if the game can balance the SoL with that and I don't find myself bored with either.

  12. If you're talking about in the same game then the only one to fully do that is Gin'iro Haruka, same company as Hoshi Ori, which is currently partially translated. Other than that the only one I can think of off the top of my head available in English is Private Nurse and that only applies to Ayano's route and those are a collection of short stories.

Otherwise after stories are relegated to fandisks.

  13. Opted for Utawarerumono 2&3 since that's the only one I'm familiar with. Never played Tears to Tiara 2, though I have played some of the PS3 port of the first game and gameplay wise I remember it being a little similar. I would recommend either waiting for the PS4 version or watching the anime for the first game so you'll get some references and foreshadowing sprinkled throughout the second game.

  14. Ys VIII on my PS4; currently on the third chapter and am interested in the past stuff now that I can play as Dana. Also...

    Spoiler

Am I the only one who was happy when that fat noble died at the end of chapter 2 and was basically saying "Why?" when prior to that every character was insisting we try to save him? I know they're all good people, but the game never gives us any reason to care what happens to the guy. He doesn't even help out and counts as a nonfactor for clearing areas to explore; so there isn't even a pragmatic reason to save him.

On the Switch, resuming my second playthrough of Fire Emblem Three Houses, doing the Golden Deer this time (first playthrough was Blue Lions).
