You can use Linux as a powerful base system. It has niceties not available in Windows, like virtual desktops, THE CONSOLE, software manager (installing software is dead easy), etc.
You'll still need Windows software (those VNs), so you have Wine or, as an alternative to VMWare, VirtualBox, which is easy to use and never gave me a problem. I don't know about the VNs that need Japanese locale and that's a problem, but with virtual machine you can do it. However I played Yume Miru Kusuri on a Linux Mint with Wine back in 2015 and it never gave a problem.
If you like Mint I'd suggest keeping with it. It's one of the best distros and the most popular.
Linux Mint supports Steam on its repositories, BUT not every game available for Windows is available for Linux. So I guess you'll be using your virtual machine a lot and why Linux then?
Linux gaming works better with GOG, because you can switch to a native Linux version of the game (I don't know though if they like more Red Hat-based or Debian-based).
Photoshop is a problem, I haven't tested it but I hear it's one of the last bulwarks of proprietary software still not available for Linux.

Searching around shows you need at least linux kernel 4.3 for this motherboard, which is pretty much everywhere by now (4.11 is most recent one). Your setup will most likely benefit from newer kernel and mesa since they bring lots of improvements to AMD graphics driver. Something like Antergos should do nicely ootb while Ubuntu ships outdated software you have to update after installation. Visual novels work using wine (not a virtual machine but lighter alternative) but getting videos work in older games can be tricky if you're new to linux. Virtualbox with HyperV backend runs what wine can't. Win XP and 8 run at near native speed once you install guest additions. mpv is great.  https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=25607

Hi all, i want to give linux a go on my main rig:

I haven't really used linux since mint 9, which i really, really loved, this are the things i'm interested in:
    1. Compatibility with my hardware, and when i say hardware i mean my i7 6700 config.
    2. i heard you can get visual novels to work nicely using vmware player, is that true ? Does it support fullscreen ? Can i access files on my Linux partition with it ?
    3. Does Linux have something similar to MPC-HC, MPC-HC not only has a great compatibility with every video i ever played but subs and ass style subs work great. for instance with VLC i had issues.
    4. I need to use  Photoshop CS5 or CS6, is that possible now ? Do not recommend me alternatives (like gimp), i've used photoshop for years its what i'm used to.
This is how mint looked when i really loved it leaving aside the backgrounds its that look and features i really loved, any chance of getting something similar on newer builds, i also digged compiz:

Maybe Kikokugai and Phantom of Inferno would be fitting, although the latter was a pain to play though (I mean to set it up, because it was using DVDplayer). Hope it'll be help.

While there are mild slice of life elements I have to recommend the Mushoku Tensei web novels. They have been fully translated to English and it's 24 volumes long. This series has it all action, adventure, romance, fantasy, drama, and comedy.

Late to the party here. As for the VN, I think both of Fate Stay Night and Tsukihime could qualify here (Very mainstream I knew). Other than that, Duel Savior could qualify here. Hope those revommendations could help.

It's a pretty minimal plot point that gets somewhat "spoiled" in other routes. If you really don't want to know outside Touko's own route, you should do hers first. I believe Akane's route touches on said plot point a little, and so if the element of surprise is super important to you, Touko before Akane is probably a good idea.

Then I would definitely say Amane from Grisaia.
The Rei route from Snow Sakura is along those lines as well. Albeit it's an older VN.
I'm assuming you've played Majikoi because there is a bevvy of fits for you there.
Fate Stay/Night is built on strong-willed female leads. Although how the VN is assembled is a bit different than your average VN.
All i can think of atm. Best of luck.

The Amane After route in Grisaia no Meikyuu has that sort of feel to it. Not straight yakuza, but the dad could be lol.
G-senjou no Mao is kinda the opposite where you are on the side of the yakuza controling peoples lives. Not quite what you want.
It's the interaction with Maya's family that makes it tough to copy. Most games will focus on the heroine but that that aspect of it.

Yakuza heroine, eh? Well there's Makoto from Chrono Clock (The route was more super natural though), and Mion from Higurashi (It's more like linear VN instead of route based though). If you want military hotshot, maybe Kaoru from Ayakashibito (She was antagonist at first though). Hope those'll be help.

Strike105X got a reaction from Novel21 in tales of berseria question
I absolutely loved tales of berseria, I haven't enjoyed a jrpg so much in years, or better said since i played The Legend of Dragoon. In fact it became my favorite jrpg. It won me over since the first trailer and i preordered as soon as it was possible on pc. I only preordered 2 times in my life to be honest and this was well worth it.

That's a pretty high-level request, considering the ones you've already read... Eien no Aselia (Aselia the Eternal) is the only one that comes to mind right away (four of the heroines are magically-enslaved soldiers).
Make another thread when you are ready for the untranslated, lol.

As far as I concerned, I think both of 11eyes and Seinarukana from my last recommendation should be suffice. But if you need more, then you could try Kamidori there. Also Galaxy Angel Trilogy if you want soldier heroine.

    Summary
"...Fine, since this is the least I can do. I'll be taking care of you from now on. Best regards, newbie."
The story begins with Mutsura Yuuto accompanying his friend on a holiday to Aqua Eden, an artificial island city paradise where anything is possible. However, his holiday plans are laid to waste when a girl he meets gets kidnapped. Trying his best to rescue the girl, Yuuto himself unfortunately gets captured as well. The city's Disciplinary Committee luckily arrive to save the day, but not before the unthinkable happens: the kidnapper is revealed to be a vampire and transforms Yuuto into one too!
Feeling guilty about the incident, the kidnapped girl Yarai Miu (who also is a vampire) decides to take Yuuto under her wing. As a vampire, Yuuto can no longer leave Aqua Eden; forced to abandon his previous life and with nowhere else to go, he takes up Miu's offer and decides to enroll in a special school for vampires on the island - and thus, his new night life begins!
