I think that might be the problem. I found a thread on aarinfantasy of someone who sounds like they had a similar problem:

He said that the problem was the he didn't install it in japanese locale and instead used applocale to open it.

    Hope this helps.

I think what a lot of it is going to come down to is semantics and personal interpretations of vague things like 'I' an what makes 'you you'. Personally speaking, I feel a very large disconnect between 23-year old me and 15-year old me. So much so that I'd even say that that the person I was during my adolescence is like a stranger or entirely different person. Depending on how you look at it, you could say a lot of individuals are born through a single person's life.  Maybe 15-year old me is dead and I'm just borrowing the life experiences from him and learning from them, like reading a book written by someone else.

This is a fun exercise to play with, though. I'd be interested to see any other scenarios you come up with.

    All Hallows' Eve
“Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you.”
    ― Friedrich Nietzsche

    Ding-dong

    The doorbell sounded.

At the risk of sounding like a complete scrooge, Halloween is such a tedious, annoying night. It's holiday I begrudgingly observe due to rooting myself in suburbia and to a zealous girlfriend with a propensity for all things Hallmark. She’s a passionate woman; it might be her best quality. She has a fervor about life that makes up for my colorless self. Where she shines, big shadows are cast. Unfortunately, our differing personalities can create a bit of dissonance. I’m often dragged along for the ride – concerts, parties, holidays. You could say I'm not big on fun.

It’s a small price to pay for the devotion and security she gives me, but boy can it be irritating. As exemplified tonight.

I got up from my computer and crossed the basement floor. I was on Trick-or-Treat duty since my girlfriend had a test in an important night class.  That left me to the responsibility of awkwardly doling m&m snack size candies and boxes of nerds. I'm not good with kids. I don’t quite know how to interface with them. All I usually muster is an unnatural smile and a “have a good night, be careful out there.”

I made my way through the basement threshold and up a small set of stairs, grabbing the candy bowl off a table by the front door. I dully rattled the bowl, just to break up the brief moment of pause I took before I clasped the door's handle, gave a slight sigh as if to signify a shift to a more inviting personality, and started to open the door.

What struck me all the sudden was an enveloping sense of dread, the likes of which I had never known. It blanketed every fiber of my being. The suddenness of its onset made just served to compound the terror more. I stopped with the door only slightly ajar. I was suffocating with fear.

It was like someone had flipped a switch and I had awakened unknown to a terrible, pervading undercurrent that had always been there, but was rarely perceived. It was the purest form of terror, the kind that did not induce revulsion, but rather robbed you of your resistance. Accompanying this newfound terror was an urge. An invitation. I knew I was to open this door. The dread left no question. It was absolute. It had to be realized. This was to be inevitability, my life to go out like a horror show.

    Ding-dong

A dull tone split my ears. It compelled me. Open the door. My throat tightened and my stomach hallowed out. My hair stood in anticipation. I wheezed down what I knew was to be my last few breaths. I obeyed.

What had come to take me were the very personifications of terror. The embodiments thought up and cemented in our camp fire stories, our literature, our movies, and our games to give voice and alleviate our our fears.  Not the fear of what goes bump in the night, but of the implacable. That abyss that awaits all of us. The one seeped into everything we endeavor, everything we commit to – relationships, careers, religion. That intangible motivator that colors our psyches and drives us to the trappings of society. Fear itself, alive:

    The Dread God Cthulhu
    Darth Nihilus, Lord of Hunger.
    Pennywise the Dancing Clown
    Saya
    The Stay Puft Marshmellow Man

With alien unison, etched into the very night, a terrible sound formed:

    Once more, I obeyed.

Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Raskolnikov murders the Pawnbroker and her sister, only to be quickly tracked down and apprehended by Batman during his state of delirium. Because of this, he fails to meet Sonya and thusly never finds love or redemption. He grows to be a bitter, defeated man while imprisoned in Siberia. He never overcomes his nihilism.

Probably a less meaningful story this way.

    Another long day.

Despite my exhaustion with classes, it never fails that this bar brings calm to calamity. An empty stool in sight, I stumble my weary legs to the bar and raise one finger to the bar tender. One. He knows what I'm talking about- The best chocolate milk in town.

As I turn to take my seat, I catch a glimpse of somethi-... SomeONE, extraordinary...
    M-Makise... Kurisu??!

At first I didn't want to believe it- But... The hair... Her eyes- Hell, even the outfit, tie and all. The resemblance is uncanny. It has to be that wom- Well more of a girl than a woman, based on her features, but... I have to do something. It's not every day an intellectu- No. It's not every day Makise Kurisu is in the same room as you.

I look the the bar tender and shoot him a peace sign and a wink. Two. He knows. The good stuff. Dr. Pepper. Irresistible beverage and scientist's best friend. He catches a glimpse of what I'm looking at and knows what to do. Good man.

As I start towards her, mind in shambles, rushing to decide what I'll say, my phone vibrates. Of all times!!! I swear when I get back I'm going to tell that hostage of mi- Oh... What is... Ah.... It takes me a few moments to decrypt what it is I'm reading. The message seems to have limitations, but it gets the point across. Should I trust it though...? I guess I don't have much reason not to... I wasn't sure what to do anyways.

Whoever this is, I thank you.

Mind cleared and goal set, I continue towards my target. Taking my place on the stool beside her, she turns her head to me in a bit of surprise as the bar tender slams down a pair of ice cold ~Dr. Peppers~ in front of us. Amongst all the commotion, she seems to be at a loss for words. I guess this is my chance... As I take a drink of Dr. Pepper to calm my nerves and clear my throat, I look to her, right in the eyes, and say---

    A. <Nice weather we're having, huh?>
    B. <SCIENCE!!!>
    C. <So, you come here often?>

Option B: 『Time machines are a completely absurd concept, no? So many theories about time travel but none of them are really all that logical, nothing but hypotheses contradicting one another. I mean there's neutron star theory, black hole theory, light speed theory, tachyon theory, wormhole theory, exotic matter the....』

I ended up having a lot of fun with this:

    Week 3 - Challenge 4:

    The Stray Sheep

The door closed behind me, the weight of which was like a period at the end of a sentence.

My working day and its routine were now over, put away and well-kept outside of these bar doors. Now I was to begin a night of excess, the tone of which would be decided by the company I had yet to find. Perhaps I’d find a couple of good-ole boys and we’d happily drink the night away. Maybe all that awaited me tonight would be sad-saps and deadbeats, the kind of company that that either results in self-loathing or – even worse – a misplaced sense of superiority and misanthropy. Maybe the only company I’d find is myself.

That would be the worst of all.

I was greeted by the stale smell of smoke and the uninterested eyes of people looking to trade the humdrum of their daily lives for a night that will most likely blend together with other nights. My kind of the people. The people who can feel terribly alone even when surrounded by like-minded souls suffering in equal measures.

I made my way to the bar’s counter, making a note of all the fresh faces and contemplating which might make for the best company and who might be receptive to my advances. Perhaps tonight I’d get lucky and I’d trade dulling my senses for the awkward fumbling and meaningless kind of companionship a woman could offer.

The barman greeted me, lightly raising a hand in salutation while the other polished the bar top. This was a ritual carried out every night. Funnily enough, in spite of coming here for the better portion of a year, I’d never learned the bartender’s name. It was better that way. Like a priest, he was a  confessor. It might sound stupid, but I needed a degree of anonymity if I wanted to feel like I had some dignity left to lose.

To me, he was simply Boss.

“Give me chocolate milk, go heavy on the syrup.”

He gave me a light nod in affirmation. Boss’s gestures were always so light, so deliberate. Nothing was wasted. He was like a goddamn monk. He was –

    Something caught my eye.
    Someone caught my eye.
    A woman caught my eye.

She had gotten up to leave from her table on the far side of the room. I was baffled as to how I didn’t notice her immediately. She had a pull, not unlike any other beautiful woman. Yet there was something more to it, though – something unplaceable. Strangest of all, I seemed to be the only one entranced.  As if this was a personal siren’s song, dedicated only to me.

Before I could even process and rationalize the strange hold her presence had over me, my body knew it had to act. I sprung forward, making my way to the doors that that punctuated the beginning and end of my every night. Tonight it would act as a question mark.

I watched her approach. She stepped lightly, each clack of her heels stirring in me a peculiar mix of excitement and apprehension. After all, this could only end in two ways: I’d earn her assent or be rejected. Truthfully, I don’t know which would be better.

I took in her profile as she approached.

A white sundress emphasized her girlish figure.
A red ribbon was wrapped tightly around her waist, as if to serve as a suggestion.
What followed with her was a seductive, coquettish air. Inescapable, palpable, suffocating.
Her golden hair was arranged in short twin tails.
Her blue eyes betrayed the seductive way she carried herself.

She stopped in front of me, eyes alight. I had no doubt she knew my intention. A small tilt of her head forward and a slight of her lip gave me the go ahead.

This was my chance, I had bring out my best line. My very best line:

“If I flip a coin, what are my chances of getting head?”

To make up for my lazy haiku:

“When reason fails, the devil helps!”

I slumped against the cold steel wall of my holding cell. In the hours following my crime, my head just hasn’t been working right. Perhaps it would be fairer to say that my head wasn’t working right the moments leading up to my crime. Perhaps it would be best said my head has never been right, and all its misfirings and all my misgivings were just piling up over the years, culminating to this point along with a very poor choice.

To say I don’t know what came over me would be a lie. What I felt at the moment was just too vivid to conveniently sweep away as being a lapse of judgment. No, what came to me… what possessed me, was a rage unfiltered.  It was a conscious act, done unflinchingly with full awareness of the malice behind it.

Perhaps some people would laud what I did as justifiable. Those people would lack perspective. Lofty ideals like justice should never be used to cover up our baser sides.

Justice didn’t raise the head of that fire axe.
    Justice didn’t bare it down!
At the brunt of the impact, justice was no wear to be found!

Alas though, what was found in the midst of broken glass and assorted snacks was that damn candy bar. The one that refused to acquiesce. The one that hung there taunting me. The one that sought to deny me satisfaction. The one that was stuck in that damn machine.

    Well, it’s mine now.
It’s mine now, along with a few minor lacerations to my hand.
It’s mine now, along with this cell.

An hour passed and a guard came to me. He told me someone posted my bail. I couldn’t imagine who would.

He told me it was the strangest damn thing too. He said the bail was posted in rupees.

A profile came into view in the threshold behind the guard.  It was a young man. He had a well-used physique adorned in a green tunic. Atop his head sat a… green cap. He had blonde hair and, strangest of all, pointy ears.

The guard unlocked the holding cell and waved me out. The man approached me. His sharp eyes locked with mine. He said to me:

        “…”

A lot of people seem to be excited about the release of Pokemon X and Y, so I figure we should do something to celebrate (even if I don't own a 3DS >.>).

I present to you the Nuzlocke Challege (official site here: http://www.nuzlocke.com/challenge.php).

    How do you take part?

    1. Pick any Pokemon game you like and start playing it (don't own one? Emulate!)
    2. You may only capture the first Pokemon you find in each area. If you beat it, too bad.
    3. If a Pokemon faints you must release it. (prying items from their cold, dead corpses is okay though)
    4. You are not allowed to train any of your Pokemon above the highest level of the next gym leader's Pokemon.
    5. You cannot trade Pokemon with anyone not taking part in the Nuzlocke Challenge.

    6. Post your adventures here! You can straight-up tell us what happened or craft a story to share, or even an in-character diary, perhaps. I'll keep everyone's journal in spoiler tags on this page.

I'm not sure how many people will end up doing this, but I figured it might be fun =)

    *Edit*:

    Optional Rules:

    1. Name your Pokemon after forum members.
    2. Only use normal Pokeballs.
    3. You may only attempt to capture a Pokemon 3 times. If you fail, you must beat it or run away.
