My favorite female casts are usually the ones I don't actually want to date, because they feel so much like real friends to me. That applies exclusively to casts which interact a lot with the player and amongst themselves, in order to form an immersive group experience (Grisaia, Majikoi or Deardrops).
In conclusion, I am unable to order these characters in any sort of list, because I like them all equally personality-wise. I could only rank them for superficial reasons, like appearance, voice or route quality, which kind of defeats my point.

tl;dr: If I like all heroines to a point, at which I don't want to romance any of them, then it is my favorite cast. If one girl is just better (or worse) than all the others, I can't consider the entire cast as favored.

Not speaking to the examples provided, but is SODS always indicative of bad writing?  You don't get the thrill of recollection that Palas mentioned and you don't get to make all the little connections in your head, but sometimes drama needs to be spontaneous and hit you like a truck - either due to the nature of the event or for artistic impact. Dramatic events aren't always explicitly or subtly telegraphed in real life after all and I could conceive of some examples where it would be more organic for there not to be any foreshadowing in the story at all.

Probably says a lot about me that this and Starless were the VNs I was looking forward to the most this year. I'll probably hold off on playing the trial though since it's a definitive buy for me anyway.

Your taste in colours is dubious; the condition of your eyes suspect. Pls obtain new pair from local 'chop shop'.
    Lots of love, Rooke
PS: No need to thank, this advice is free. Your welcome
Seriously though, a change is as good as a holiday. Also the colour meshes well with the new Temporal theme/colours imo, and looks pretty neat.

nohman got a reaction from Crayten in Thoughts on long common routes
How much I enjoy a long common route naturally depends on the quality of the visual novel. As long as I don't find a visual novel boring, I much prefer a long common route to a shorter one. A long common route gives more time to world building, character building, and makes for a more organic segue into the character specific routes (or at least generally speaking). If I had to pick one over the other, I guess I would say I would prefer a game to have a long common route as opposed to a short one. Ultimately, you can always use the skip function or load a save after all.

I enjoyed Grisaia's common route in particular. The humor never fell flat and each scene developed my impression/interest of Mihama Academy's student body. This might sound strange, but I was actually a bit bummed when the common route concluded.

Hi, I'm ara and I'm mostly dumb, but hang in there with me, okay? I've been on fuwa for well over a year and now over 1000 posts. It's been pretty great and I've met a good number of people I very much enjoyed talking to. I made a lot of friends and stopped talking to just about as many, sadly. But the reason I post is because I actually want to talk about myself and my hopes and ambitions. I'd really appreciate it if you read my post with an open mind.

One of my greatest passions is understanding and appreciating stories (and characters). These things that people write, draw, animate, or film. And I'm sure there are a number of other ways of storytelling, but for me, the stories I read about in books, manga, and anime seem to hold a special place in my heart. And the thing is that I don't think anyone really sees things the way I do a lot of the time. I won't get ahead of myself and tell you guys about how special I am and how I have this great vision or whatever, but there's definitely something different in the way everyone experiences stories, right? I believe a lot of that comes from contexts and from the reader's willingness to open their heart to the story.

I care about many stories and I care about them in ways that I don't see people talking about. I care about facets of them that are often left undiscussed and it pains me every time I see someone bash something I love when it seems to me that they misunderstood "the really interesting part" or failed to appreciate the enjoyable uniqueness of the story. What I want to do is try to share my feelings with other people. I want other people to understand the way I feel and look at things with the same caring eyes that I do. I want to share with people the stories that I love and the things I love about them. Whether or not you may disagree, I think something wonderful can come from trying to transcend the singular context with which you read a story and see it in a new light. Or maybe it's just not very quality, but good in very specific and unique respects. That's cool too, right!? People, appreciate these things!!

So I've been musing for a while.
"I spend too much time talking to people online about nothing"
"But you like talking to people, you like connecting and fangirling over things with people and sharing your passions"
and thoughts like these, although recently they've been tainted with this general cynicism about online relationships. Yea, yea. Normal stuff. Sorry I'm not a hilarious breath of fresh air.

But what occurred to me is that I should try to write. Actually write for other people as much as for myself, to try to build a bridge between their understanding of stories and my own, and hopefully get people to love some of the things I do for the reasons I do. So I want to take my 1000th-ish post time in the spotlight to say two things.

    1. If you're looking for someone to talk to or feel lonely or want a friend or someone to bash ur fookin' 'ead in, I'll try to be a mate for ya. You can message me on fuwa or add me on skype or whatever you want and we can spend all the day chatting idly about why $0$ is a hilarious nickname for s0s or whatever garbage comes up.
    2. I'm planning on writing something that may be called postviews or something... Thoughts on stories I've read and things that I think other people might have something to gain in thinking about. I think I'll do this as a blog function or something but I'm not entirely sure. The process might end up being too formal for my fool-ass self, but I want to at least bring it up in the hopes that someone cares and maybe we can talk about stories. Because I don't like sitting around thinking about why I love this and that so much without having anyone to share it with. Life is better spent with a friend.

So, I hope you've enjoyed a glimpse into my mind as I post this awkward post with a fittingly awkward title that only makes sense if you really really think about it. I swear I'm only a little crazy! But I hope that I can share some of my craziness with you guys in the future. It's been a pleasure being on fuwa, but I seriously need an outlet for all of my thoughts and I think people are getting tired of my incomprehensible explanations.

(Shoutout to HMN who won't read this but who is super amazing)

Also this thread will function as an AMA for anyone that wants to ask pretty much anything or just talk about things. Idk! I didn't think that  hard about this post, okay? gosh. Though I expect I scared most of you off with the text above.

Started playing pirate rogue last night thanks to Babiker. I'm still very, very awkward with it, but I'm enjoying it. After nothing but hours and hours of cw, it's nice to have a change of pace. Speaking of cw, I'm loving it more than I ever since TGT. Justicar Truehart is really bringing out my ResidentSleeper even more.

Don't worry. I'm really fucking bad at Hearthstone and I've been playing (a lot) since beta. Added you.

Okay, I wanted to respond earlier, but got swamped with work.

I'm glad to see another fan of kitsune and miko outfits~

It just so happens I've actually bought Tenkiame a while ago and I'm loving every second of it. I have to admit, when I came upon the first news about the game, I instantly feel in love with it and couldn't wait for release. The game had that something special - perhaps it was the setting, characters and quality; maybe it was the overall atmosphere (the game is quite similiar to Monobeno in that manner), or a mixture of all of them. At first glance you might think it's no different than any moege, but this game is actually a classic, laidback slice of life romance drama with japanese folklore and supernatural elements. You may argue it's not really that special - and that might be true, as decent the game remains, but it's incredibly good at what it aims to be. Right now I am certain Sun Shower is definately the best August release and possibly, one of the best vn's released in a longer while.

Regarding translation... I was curious myself, therefore I took the game apart. To be honest, Sun Shower really deserves to be translated and I'd be glad to see that happen as well. On the other hand, I'm not really the kind of person, that sits doing nothing; especially, when it's about things I adore. In the end, I decided to give it a try.

    And this is the result:

Some screenshots I did during the testing, along with a quick translation.

It didn't took me long to figure it out. Game uses SystemC along with E-mote plugin for the live animations. I'll be honest - Tenkiame would be incredibly easy to translate. The only troublesome thing I found about the game was the data repacking, but I guess nothing's impossible when you're so madly in love with your resident fox girls. So yeah, here you have it. Unfortunately, I don't really feel proficient enough to tackle the translation myself, but I'm willing to help anyone serious enough to start a translation project.

Aside from that, Tenkiame has literally everything I need:
Kitsune + cheerful imouto + sweet older sister + shrine maiden outfits + countryside + folklore

Is this how true happiness looks like?

As one of the "old" members of the site who has basically gone from being a semi-active lurker (that's an oxymoron, right?  I'm pretty sure that's an oxymoron... but, that's what I'm gonna call myself!) to an active poster in the Reviews super-secret forum and PMs mostly in regard to the running of FuwaReviews, I'm sort of in the category of "gave up on the forums, but not the site."

I check the site every day for two reasons:  One, to see if there are any new posts that may actually be relevant to my interests.  Unfortunately, with the history not scrolling back as far as it used to, sometimes I miss a few things here and there, and that sucks, but if I don't see it instantly, I'm very likely going to miss it.  And then when I do post on something, then I get sidetracked or forget about it or "promise I'm going to do it later only to not do it" (my most recent example being that I reserved a spot in Ren's thief game, even saying that I was going to apply for it on Skype, only to completely get sidetracked by work), then I don't post responses to anything that may need responding to.  It's a commitment I can't make, and commitments I should avoid making, so I tend to stay away from things I don't feel strongly about.

What I do do is spend some time in our reviews subforum.  Anytime there's a new post in that forum, I'm instantly reading it.  I don't care if it's Bats or Palas or Exenorate or whoever (Down<3) updating their status post or if we have hold of a new review key or what have you, I read that, because that's what I like to do on this site.  I like doing FuwaReviews - I like the business side of doing all of it.  I like working with Flutterz on making sure my reviews are as perfect as they can be.  I like trolling Bats when he is drunk and posting Minute Reviews that are a paragraph in length and have more jokes than actual content.  I like to get people's opinions on what games we should consider high priority.

I do what I enjoy on the site.  Unfortunately a lot of that is behind-the-scenes work, which sucks, but it's what I enjoy.

I would hope people act with this same mentality.  If they aren't having fun, why are they here?  When the torrents were removed, we lost that crowd.  Oh well, they went to [removed] and now they sit on the forums "hey x game is released where the hell is my ddl of it wtf admin".  Then the "Forum Cleanup" policy went into effect, and that sent a lot of people packing because they were worried that they were going to get banned because they post something that may be considered suggestive.  That's not exactly the intent, but I understand where they're coming from, and I also understand why the Administrators would want to take that route.

We can't please everybody.  That's impossible.  Somebody is going to show up and ask "WHAR TORRENT", realize we don't have those anymore, and never come back.  Somebody is going to post something that crosses the line in a spoiler and not realize we can't do that, get warned, and leave.  That's the natural flow of forums.  Same with cliques, moderation, and members.  Natural flow of forums.

Spoiler regarding a similar forum that may trigger people.  Don't click if you're easily triggered.

This will be the location for the XCOM Enemy Within playthrough I'm doing using Fuwanovel members as soldiers. I'm hoping to have video recording capabilities by XCOM 2 but in the mean time this is going to be a simple little screenshot type of deal. I'm not fully committed yet to the way I'm going to format this so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know. In the mean time the first few might be done a few different ways til something works. I'm also going to attempt to figure out a means of recording the videos and may or may not edit them after.

Soldiers sent on missions are determined by a random generator and actions I take in game are based on personality I've been given for specific units. There will be a few times while playing that I will ask for feedback that will be in the XCOM Recruitment thread. This is essentially an xcom role-play with fuwanovel members as soldiers. For those wondering "it's a good day to die" is song and one of the very few decent things from Starship Troopers 3. If anyone actually wants to hear the song an amv was made with it. Anyway time to begin,
