Hey! Maybe someone also knows, if there is a book, on which VN was based? Or all novels are unique?

As it turns out, I actually know quite a lot of horror/despair/oppressive titles... I rec everything on this list, including ones that may look less appealing on a surface level
    Soundless  https://milkplus.itch.io/soundless
    Lynne https://ebihime.itch.io/lynne
Girlfriend Simulator (meme title but nice vn) https://ebihime.itch.io/girlfriend-simulator
Arguably Subarashiki Hibi, though it has some much slower parts to it... then again so does s;g. Various patching probably required if you go legit for this one; even if you don't some patches give you more content from newer releases, check the vndb page releases section really.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (especially episode 1, various fantweaks available - cba to even link this one due to it being split on vndb and stuff)
    Saya no Uta
Historia (if possible don't read the description for part 2, though you should download that one as it has both ch1 and ch2)
    Digital Seclusion

I'm playing Gore Screaming Show. I started this yesterday and I'm having a lot of fun so far. It's a slow build-up to the horror, which I love, and most of the characters are fun to read about. I started with Akane's route and I find her to be really adorable. The music is great overall and I love the voice acting for Gore.

I mean, he is a 14-year-old teenager. As a former teacher, I assure you that he is way less idiotic than some real kids can be (Not all of them, of course, but there is always "the one")

As of the thread, I'm happy to say that after almost one year reading it, I... dropped White Album 2.
I really don't have too much to say about this one. It is great in everything that it does, but I found two issues: it is too long, to the point that I was loosing interest because I knew that I'd have to read X more hours just to finish the "cheating route". The second issue is also related to its lenght. I almost didn't play any VNs the whole year. 2022 was basically the year that I finished Little Busters for the second time, started reading WA2 and that's it.
As soon as I decided a few weeks ago to drop WA2, I was able to play AI: Somnium Files 2 in just a few days, half of Summer Pockets: Reflection Blue and 70% of 13 Sentinels' story.
Again, I love WA2, its twists, its setting, it as a whole, but I felt that I needed to move on, and probably I'll never complete it, and I'm fine with it.

Hey everyone, been looking for a good place to talk about VNs and such so thought I'd try this site out.
Anyways, I first got introduced to galge a good 10~15 years ago when I played the first Tokimeki Memorial and ended up liking a it a lot, but didn't really explore the genre further until years later.
Long story short, me really getting into whole the galge/VN genre was primarily the result of being a bit of a seiyuu otaku. Basically I was looking for games that Mizuki Nana starred in > this led me to Memories Off 2nd so I played through the 1st and 2nd MemoOffs > found out one of the endings in 2nd doesn't really make sense if you haven't played infinity/Never 7 so had to play this as well > One thing led to another and now I'm just slowly playing through the whole KID catalog (and eventually the 5PB/MAGES game catalog by extension) in release order.
I also really like games by Kogado Studios (my profile picture is from one of their games, Little Witch Parfait, which I also discovered due to Mizuki Nana being in it) and have been collecting and slowly progressing through their stuff as well.
Aside from that, I've been branching into a lot of different companies' games, with a particular focus on tracking down and playing some of the more famous/historically relevant titles by Leaf, Key etc... (Just played through the original Shizuku last year for example).
I'm sure I'll be a bit of an outlier here since I mainly play older games, almost exclusively buy physical copies and have a strong preference for console versions where possible (No joke, the Dreamcast might be my favorite platform to play galge on) but nonetheless looking forward to talking about VNs with you all as I slowly progress through my never-ending backlog of games.
    よろしくお願いします~

(OH! And one other very important detail: If my profile picture doesn't give it away, I REALLY like Yuri. I'm a admittedly a huge himedanshi and buy a pretty ungodly amount of Yuri Manga, LNs & Yurige)

My random number generator has decided that I should finally start reading Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.

soundless (horror); definitely a hidden gem!
Sound of Drop -fall into poison- (horror); I remember liking this, but it's been so long idk how good it still is
Hatoful Kareshi (mystery; romance); hidden gem!! I mean, this one is pretty famous but most people only play it for the lolz and don't get to the good stuff

I will definitely make a Let's play of it once I'm done with two other fangames. I hope more chapter will be out by then~
I did hear that this game had quite a troubled time behind the scenes. So I'm curious how it will end up in the writing department. There were major disagreements over direction of the characters, the director being hard to work with etc. There was an entire big document full of discord messages about the drama.
I don't remember the resolution of the drama, but I guess it must have worked out. At least one of the writers I follow who posted the document is still in the project.

Well to be frank I'm not quite hyped here, although now that I see it turned out that it's Daganronpa fangame, which coincidentally enough has the same situation as Phoenix Wright (With both have trial based gameplay to boot). I can only say that it should be good for Danganronpa fans who want more of it, especially since the original Danganronpa creator Kodaka apparently had enough of it. Good luck to the developer to develop more of the chapters there, especially after I know that there's a lot of pain in order to deliver the prologue alone here.

Just yesterday I played a bit of Mother Matron, which is some funky horror denpa game I found where you are living in some isolated world where rats rule the sewers and there are scraps of metal falling from the sky, killing people. It's definitely horror and it got me once or twice scared. What adds to the positives is that the game has some solid voice acting despite being a totally free game.

And today I started playing FAKKUs newest release, St. Yariman's Little Black Book which is an Orcsoft ZOMBIE Nukige with my beloved gyarus. There are four girls in total and they all have vastly different personalities, that are still quite one-note. I liked Mana's part the most because I like that cutesy e-girl idol star personality she has. The dialogue is quite good and the localization is also not half bad. I noticed at some point however they omitted mentions of Mesugaki, but at another part of the game they translated that into "bratty little kid" so my suspicions of forced censorship can be laid aside. It's a decent pick up for slutty gyaru nukige and I'm happy that FAKKU localized this.

Have some examples of funny dialogue:

    祝姫
It has some of Ryuukishi's trademark writing: the unreliable protagonist, the sudden shifts in mood, the blurring of reality and fantasy, but without any of his themes. It's a rather bland and boring horror game, but shows some of his spark from time to time.
So far, it's a rather standard B flick horror movie. They just try and shove as many disgusting things at you as possible. They don't even show the worst of it explicitly, which makes it a rather half-assed game. I feel like the art doesn't really contribute anything to Ryuukishi's writing. If there is any good thing that came from this, the voice acting is top notch.
Ryuukishi really knows how to go back to being a kid and write SOL the way a kid would think, but the problem is it doesn't fit the story this time. Overall, a rather mediocre experience.

    BLACK SHEEP TOWN
Generational change, huh. That's a pretty interesting topic in itself. The old passes away or retires and passes their hopes and dreams to their children. It's a reality that one cannot get away from as a mortal, and pretty much becomes the raison d'être of the older generations.
It's interesting how they show how different humans choose to live based on nature vs nurture. Those born as mutants tend to be more influenced by nature, while the more normal people are more influenced by nurture. But I think the point is that those two things both greatly influence a person's life. Ryou just wants to live a normal life as a student, but his circumstances around him won't permit it and turned him into a cold ruthless leader of a mafia.
All the characters are interesting as fuck. Tachigawa Ryouma, the doctor decided to stop living smartly and live as he pleases after getting involved with Chris Tsue. Chris Tsue is so fucking badass: 「おれが思うに、人間の命そのものには何の価値もない。命の価値というものは、その人間がどう考え、どう行動したかによってはじめて生まれる。……つまり作り出すものなんだ。」- "I think that there's no intrinsic value in people's life. A life's value is created from how people think and act...meaning we have to create it ourselves." 「人間は所詮土くれだ。誇りをなくし、心を濁らせれば糞と変われねえのさ 。」- "Humans are in the end the same as dirt. Those who lose their dignity, and have their minds tainted are no different from shit." Humans who live like cattle have no value. In real life, this refers to people who sell their dignity for money. They then use that money to buy safety for a stable empty life.
I think that his logic jump is too big here, but it's still an interesting thing to think about. I think it all depends on the personal goal of the person involved. For example, someone might join the sex industry to earn some money to pay for education, and then quit after a year. Is having that option truly bad? Systematically, it probably is as it can make poor people over-reliant on it. But for the individual involved, it's not necessarily bad. I guess I have similar ideas to Ryaochimin, which is money is just a tool.
There's lots of great quotes in this game. Saiki:
The main theme here seems to essentially be: life is meaningless, so you should at least live freely and make your own choices on how to live your life so that you can die satisfied no matter the result. The other part is that humans are no different from beasts. They can be extremely cruel, or be extremely nice depending on their mood and the situation. 「優しさと残酷さは似ているんだろうか?」- "Do kindness and cruelty resemble each other?" It's pretty much a 善悪相殺 situation.
Setoguchi seems more negative about life compared to Sca-ji. Well I do agree with him to a certain extent. Life is indeed pointless: your parents were horny and made you, end of story, what other meaning is there? But that shouldn't really stop you from pursuing happiness and valuing life. I've read a couple of reviews mention that it's Setoguchi's best work so far. It's hard to confirm that from my end as this is the first time I'm reading his work, but I will say that this is definitely a great game worth reading.

    Summary
Kei used to attend a famous high school with aspirations of one day becoming a doctor like his parents, but he stopped for a term due to certain reasons and is now studying part-time. While his journey had become more difficult, it was still possible to get back on track. However, after meeting many different types of people that he had not previously encountered and realizing that there was so much in the world that he did not know, he began to question what future he truly desired.

After receiving a prize from a city-wide competition for a short story that he wrote, he was asked by Yagihara, the president of a music production, to accompany their band on their upcoming tour and write a report about the event. The band was Kachoufuugetsu, which once performed on the big stage. Its leader Korekiyo is quite a peculiar fellow and talked at length about how music was pointless and good for nothing. Even though Kei was perplexed about Korekiyo, he was taken away by the band’s music when he heard it for the first time.

A few days later after that memorable first live, Kei found out that they were disbanding. Unable to accept the sudden news, he approached Korekiyo many times to convince him to change his mind, but no argument could sway him. Instead, Korekiyo asked him:

“How about you play rock in my place?”
Ending Guideline / Suggested Route Order
There are 3 main routes and a single bad ending. This VN uses your typical ladder structure format, in which there's a true ending and some routes in your way there. There are 3 acts in this story, each one to separate each route in the ladder.
Be aware that there aren't "free choices" and every single one matters to the route.
To save you some time from control-skipping, I have included Save Points in addition to the full route guides.

Finished Little Busters! : It was a pretty cool ride, but something about the ending had me feeling like something is missing.
Started ef - a fairy tale of the two. : I'm around 7 hours in and it's pretty underwhelming and generic for now.
I drop VNs very rare, but I'm thinking of dropping it if something interesing doesn't happen by the end of the first road.
