A good translation should be a matter of course for a professional company and not something I should have to 'request' in a priority list. Just like a computer game should be released in a bug free state without having to request that in particular.
Naturally, reality is different and those things unfortunately happen far too often, but I'm still too stubborn to request something that should be a given.

The top ten don't look so bad overall, but having a rape nukige series on first place and a yuri nukige series on third place is a bit sad.
But I wonder if this sentence has a deeper meaning. Maybe a hint for Sorcery Jokers from 3rdEye?!

I think I still like Kanon's route in G-Senjou more than the true route. The true route got a bit too over the top towards the end and logic holes more and more frequent. Kanon's route was more... subtile somehow, but I do like ice skating so I'm a bit biased (long time Aljona Savchenko fan). I also had the impression that Kanon was the only heroine Kyousuke really liked as a girlfriend. Haru and Kyousuke always felt more like siblings for some reason lol. Kanon was also a pretty admirable character with a strong personality even if it wasn't as obvious as with Haru. She did blend out all the yakuza stuff around her so she could focus 100% on ice skating. Something that her rival wasn't fully able to achieve and Kanon made that clear to her with some pretty merciless statements both on and off the ice.
The only route in G-Senjou that was real crap was the one of Mizuha.

*I'm almost scared to interrupt those two*
Anyway, try Koihime Musou - it's full of battle maidens and it's great!
Some other VN's with nice elder sister type routes: Otome from Da Capo 2, Kyou from Clannad, Sayaka from Dengeki Stryker, Amane from Grisaia.
VN's with older girls are rare: Mei from Edelweiss, Ai from Tick Tack, Saya from Canvas 2.
There are certainly more, but those are the ones that come to mind.

Akane 'Bio Hitler' and Lucia 'Poison Ivy' turning into ruthless massacre queens and Kotarou treating their actions more like a simple shop lifting incident than serious crimes killed the whole VN for me. I liked them both in the common route but hated them with a passion at the end of their routes. I've no sympathy for mass murderers.

Not really, actually it emphasised quite emphatically a point that needs to be kept in mind.
The hardcore userbase of the VN community is small. Really small. Small enough that the games which are considered good and subsequently hyped within the fandom can make very little impact on the sale figures when it comes time for release. IMHHW is trashed within the community and yet sold 50,000 copies, and yet some games held in high esteem within the community move only a few thousand units.
So it’s important to remember when looking at the results of these polls that very few people participate (only a few hundred,) which is representative of how small this community currently is. The opinions of this community can easily get drowned out by part of another fandom, and for games to sell well they need to be appeal to people outside the hardcore VN community.
EDIT: That being said, I'm quite annoyed Eustia lost >:c

While I can understand the reasoning, the current trend seems to indicate that popular translated titles seem to have the biggest chance to get a professional retranslation like Clannad or Hoshimem. And the ones with an actual decent translation at least get another editing pass.
So i wouldn't necessarily agree to that since popular and highly rated untranslated titles don't exactly seem to have a particular high chance to get a professional translation so far. And wouldn't a translation with some flaws still be better if the alternative would be a definite never?
I personally still prefer a half-decent translation of a great title a thousand times over a crap VN with good translation. Because even the best translation can't make a bad title good, while I can still get some fun out of a great title with a flawed translation. But that's just me...

In any case, ALL the scenario is like a shiny crazy diamond (© Pink Floyd).

In 2015, I read masterpieces like YU-NO, Eden*, MajiKoi or Fate/Stay Night.
The Latter is probably the favorite of my favorites. Because :
1/ 9,5/10 for Fate and Unlimited Blade Works (Heaven's Feel was too depressing).
2/ The Tiger Dojo scenes are cult...
    3/ Saber and Rin

Back to the main topic, my favorite VN I played in 2015 is G Senjou No Maou. Majikoi and Kara No Shoujo 2 come pretty close to it.

Eden* would probably be a good starter too I think, provided she's interested in a sad story. If she likes that she could continue with ef.
I also heard that LiarSoft titles are kind of popular among the female audience, so something from their list might be interesting like Sekien no Inganock, Shikkoku no Sharnoth, Ourai no Gahkthun or the new Yuri Ghosts on the Rooftop.
Overdrive VN's are also good starters, especially Kira Kira. For classical romance Clannad, Da Capo 2 or the Shuffle series should be solid starters too.
Otome games would probably be a good choice too for her, but I'm not sure which ones are good. The Second Reproduction maybe?

I think I've progressed far enough with AkaGoei do drop some comments about it. Overall, I think this is the most difficult Japanese VN I'm reading so far. I guess that doesn't say much considering I didn't read that much Japanese VN's and the ones I've read are probably more on the simple side. But at least the Atlas translation often spits out stuff that resembles more what one would expect after several rounds of binge drinking or from a three year old kid that got his lollipop taken away. Which means I have to directly translate the sentences myself more often than usual.
Anyway, I'm really liking this VN so far for several reasons. First, it's one of the rare VN's with a balanced cast of female and male characters. All of the girls have an individual bodyguard assigned to them and all of them know each other. And although the VN has comedy parts I definitely wouldn't call it a comedy VN. This is an AkabeiSoft title and there's some pretty fucked up stuff going on below the sugar coat.
In contrast to many pure comedy titles, this one always maintains a certain serious undertone. Some characters might be quirky and excentric but all of them can get very serious if they consider it necessary. The comedic parts are mostly because the characters are intentionally joking or teasing each other. I really appreciate that, because all too often characters in comedy titles ridicule themselves to a point that I can't take them serious anymore with the consequence that the VN looses impact.
It's also very refreshing that there are several male side characters the protagonist can hold an actual serious conversation with even if they are also joking with each other. They are still class mates after all. And the protagonist is certainly one of a kind. He's almost unpredictable, chaotic and a bit naive sometimes, but he also knows when it matters and can get pretty badass when he wants to. A really great scene was...
I also like all the heroines and will probably play all their routes which is pretty uncommon for me. The scenario also has a serious background of a city being dominated by violence and crimes. And Kaito, the protagonist has a rather wicked sense to teach the rich girls of the school about the dangers of street life by making stuff like...
Overall, so far this is definitely a VN at least a level above what we usually get translated. If it continues that way, it might even get into my top five on G-Senjou level.

ChaosRaven reacted to Turnip Sensei in What is the most important part in a Visual Novel for you?
Because I like visual novels as a story telling medium, it's simple as that. And it's not like I don't appreciate the audio-visual content, I very much do, but it's just not the the most important part for me. And that's what this thread is about; "the most important part in a visual novel for you".
And the hyperbole that I should just read books if I don't care about the audio-visual part that much is really silly. Especially if you happen to recommend me western authors. How's that going to be any replacement for my weeb stories?
I happen find the stories presented in visual novels more fascinating than what I found in books. There are these unique themes, concepts and general feel that only Japanese media like anime, JRPGs and VNs have that I happen to really like, and VNs just feature them the best, being the most story-focused of the three. I haven't still read a book that would have made me feel the same way as, for example, Steins;Gate, Narcissu or Gahkthun, even when trying to observe them just purely in terms of story.

I would have really preferred it if they would have taken the existing translation instead of making a complete retranslation. Hoshimem is a fine title but I most likely won't read it again just because of a retranslation that might or might not be slightly better. This way they could have just picked a completely new Favorite title instead - it wouldn't have made a difference for them, the translation costs would have been the same. Just that the way it is now I get pretty much nothing out of it, where I otherwise would have gotten a shiny new Favorite title. So it's pretty much thanks for nothing.

Not necessarily.  Sekai Project has suggested in the past that they like to pick up titles with name recognition in the West (source).  Most of these happen to be titles that have been fan-translated or had a popular anime adapation.  It's a mistake to assume that the crowd that buys VNs on Steam is the same crowd that plays fan-translated VNs.  It's not a mistake to assume that these people are influenced by the crowd that plays fan-translated VNs.
Everyone has to keep in mind that Sekai Project has a marketing budget of zero or close to it.  They want titles they can sell to people (not necessarily us) with no marketing effort on their part.  Fan-translated titles are good for that.

Hoshimem is a good VN and deserves an official release, so I'm all for it. I'm also waiting for the translation of the fan disc Eternal Heart for some time now. Maybe this will speed things up and also turn into an official release?
Everything in the description of Sakura Dungeon screams Demon Master Chris 2, so I'll keep an eye on that one since I liked the first one.
Not exactly sure what to think about the Karakara announcement. It doesn't exactly look like a must play title.
