  1. Try reading Denpasoft's description. There is a single line, which has a bigger font. I will add it here to make it even easier to read. If you buy a VN with a description like that and then flame the VN because you expected the protagonist to be attacked by zombies, then you might as well buy an all age VN and flame it for lack of H scenes. Half of the review flames the VN because it contains what it says it will contain rather than what you assumed it to contain. The other half is calling the protagonist abusive. That's more or less what I get from it because the rest are references to the story, which I don't get because I haven't read the VN yet.   2. Agreed. People want instant entertainment and a win here and now. We see a move from movies and certain computer game genres towards casual gaming on mobile devices. A game like StarCraft 2 is no longer as popular as it once was. It shifted towards games like League of Legends. At first glance something of the same nature, but it's fast phased and games ends quickly. You aren't stuck on the same map for hours and you don't save and return the next day. This move towards short and fast interactive entertainment means people click fast rather than stop and think. Visual Novels are the polar opposite. Nothing happens. It takes days to complete and you have to remember what happened to fully understand what goes on later in the story and well written stories will force you to stop and just think about the story without progressing. Apart from having missed the chance to be big (if it ever existed), I would say the genre is doing better than it used to. It has more mainstream awareness compared to just a few years ago. It used to be something obscure nobody heard about, yet now they are on steam and at least it has public awareness. A lot of people might not like VNs, but at least now millions of people will have an idea of what it is when you mention "Visual Novel". Steam recently made an announcement of policy change and visual novels were mentioned explicitly. Also VNs shows up in places you don't expect, like here (talking about new steam policy): In other words the public awareness is much bigger than ever before. Availability is like never before because now shops let's you download and the titles will never go out of stock. Multiple stores carries VNs (steam being the dominant one in the public eye). VNs will never be big like FPS or MMO, but relative to what VNs used to be, right now seems like much more public exposure than even the wildest dreams 5-10 years ago.

  4. Maybe it would be more appropriate to start a translation issue thread. There is a technical restoration patch in work, we might as well get a translation improving patch as well, which too is different from a general discussion. Translation and technical fixes are so different that it usually requires different people and unless the very same files needs to be modified, it might as well be two compatible patches. I know that there is no translation fixing guy/group, but people talked about the technical issues before anybody (publicly) started to work on a patch. We might as well gather the information people point out about the translation in one place, just in case somebody decides to pick it up in the future. That and it keeps the other threads more clean. I will however not directly propose splitting existing posts in this thread. The decision about such a request should be up to the thread starter.
  5. Remember correct cock usage is critical to avoid irreversible damage during power strokes due to fluid buildup. In fact it can cause worse damage than failure to apply lube to the rod. The more I read about this VN, the more split I am about it. Technically it's seems more and more flawed the more I learn about it. At the same time the contents gets better and better. I too would love to find a cute girl who walks about raising pressure, different approaches of lube application and power stroke efficiency. Seems like I'm getting lured into doing the unthinkable: buy a VN despite knowing the translation is messed up. I might be in need of help to purify my mind.
  6. What do you propose? Piston rod? Ramrod? Penis? Lovestick? Ideally the translation should be reviewed and not just pinpointing a single word. From what people post about the translation, it could do with an improvement.

  8. Oops, wrong kind of tender. The kind we need here is big, long, hard and full of liquid intended to be sprayed into the chamber where all the hot steamy action takes place. Also it apparently comes in different colors depending on age and place of origin. Furthermore it looks like the biggest sizes only come in black.

  10. Right now it's listed as on track as an overdue upcoming release. I didn't say it's not believable that Lose wants full control. What makes it questionable is the fact that we only know it from an unverified twitter account not directly linked to SP and there seems to be conflicting information about the role of the messenger. The fact that the messenger tries to distant himself from any company responsibility despite evidence to tell otherwise makes the statement about Lose (not SP) being responsible questionable. SP sells the translated VN and it has issues. This makes them responsible. They could fulfill this by making the official announcement that they are aware of the issue and asked Lose to fix it because the contract makes Lose responsible for bugfixing. Alternative "we are aware of the issue and are working with Lose to fix it". They really should provide some official statement about the issue, particularly considering their history of not fixing issues.
  11. I know, but it makes little difference. It's just an update on graphics and audio while the new remake adds contents in addition to another graphical update. I was referring to the amount of text, not the total size. Back in those days 720 Kb and 1440 kB (1.4 MB) disks were in use. Rance 1 was distributed on 4 disks (though VNDB doesn't tell which kind), which gives an indication of the size of the game. You did not want to add the production cost of an additional disk if you could avoid it and one way to keep the size down was to cut unneeded text. VNs back then simply didn't have the disk space available to have text enough to reach a normal length of modern standards. The remakes doesn't have this limitation and is claimed to have added everything they cut for size reasons or just feel like adding now that they know they can. For comparison Musumaker would require 6 disks just for the script files alone. Graphics obviously got a lot bigger since it's more pixels and more bits for each pixel. However that has nothing to do with script length, though you could argue that more text would likely require more graphics. It still has nothing to do with what I'm talking about. This is getting off topic. The point is that it would be best to start the Rance series with Rance 1, but the remake isn't translated. That should be enough for the recommendation thread.
  12. Apparently it was translated and edited back in April, yet not released yet. Either they announce it at AX at the panel tomorrow or they wait for Rance Quest in order to release both at the same time. The latter is translated and 84% edited. Reaching a non-bad end will (or can) grant you points, which you can then use to to select startup bonuses whenever you start a new game and the official release will likely not read the bonuses from the fan translation. In other words starting on the fan translation now is likely a really bad idea. I would recommend playing the Rance games in order as characters introduced in one VN will appear in multiple later titles without much of a background story, instead they talk like you already know what happened earlier. You can start anywhere, but there are scenes some scenes where you miss what they are talking about if you play them out of order. Sadly the first 3 Rance games lack an official translation (the introduction of a lot of characters and background story). We are still waiting for official releases of the remakes, which came out after the fan translations. In other words the only English available start of Rance came out in 1989-91 and the technical quality is accordingly, not to mention the remakes have disk space for a lot more text (there is a claim of 10 times as much, but I can't verify that claim). I can't really recommend anything, which haven't been mentioned already. When asking for Kamidori like releases in English, I would say Tears to Tiara is likely the closest, though they aren't close enough to be called similar. Kamidori is rather unique.
  13. I can't find anything on their website or their twitter account. All statements are from Fakku or an unofficial twitter account. The latter leaves contradicting information on the role of the messenger. Also it leaves open the question if SP or Lose is responsible and who will be responsible for a fix, if any. What I want is an official statement from SP openly declaring that they made a release and they will take responsibility for ensuring that it's working as intended. There is some excuse that SP is not allowed to change anything other than the text, but that really sounds like an excuse for possibly not do anything because it is obviously modified. Lose never released that scene+graphics combo in Japan. SP's statements (or lack hereof) are as horrible as the issue itself and a PR disaster in itself. Just as I expected. In the end a fan made patch would show up, though I didn't expect it to be this fast. Great work.
  14. I get what you are saying, but I find it silly to not make an official video. Since they have the presentation anyway, recording it seems like a minor extra and it's their chance of tricking potential customers to watch an one hour advertisement for themselves. Most companies would pay a fortune for such a chance. Since they aren't making the video themselves, we end up with something of a quality where a number of people decide to not watch due to the quality itself and those who do watch get less of the positive effect from it. Seems like a missed opportunity for JAST and annoying for the rest of us.
  15. I rotated my monitor 90° in software, but it turns out the video angle is the least of the problems. The video is shaken, flickering, really poor lighting and bad audio. In addition to that, it has issues with what is displayed. Hey let's put a cosplayer on stage and talk about the costume, but how about not turning the camera to the stage and show her? Is there a video, which is actually worth watching?
  16. It goes further than that. Looking a SP's wikipedia page, the founder is called Raymond Qian. Somehow it doesn't add up that the guy who tries to make it appear as he is a low level guy with no influence or responsibility happens to be company founder and apparently listed in government documents as high ranking with certain responsibilities within the company. Going to SP's homepage didn't help. It turns out that "about us->staff" is password protected. The biggest problem right now is not if there are 4 or 40 missing CGs or anything like that. It's the fact that there are problems and it looks like SP is more concerned with finding a scapegoat than admitting the issue and promise (and deliver!) a fix ASAP.
  17. Am I the only one wondering why MangaGamer is bringing MIN-NARAKEN? It points towards the announcement with an old partner is Alicesoft, but I can't spot an obvious VN to match here. The only Rance title not already released by MG where he was involved is Kichikuou Rance, but there is already a fan translation out for it. I assume they want to see how it goes with Sengoku Rance before announcing anything else with an already released fan translation. Also I don't view that one as an obvious choice for the next Rance announcement. To make it even less likely, no less than two Rance titles have been announced, which haven't been released yet. This points towards something else, but which one? Most likely something not directly connected with anything already released by MG, hence no clues in the MG release history. Also it looks like Sengoku Rance is 100% translated and edited, but still without a release date. I wouldn't be surprised if we get such a date shortly. My wishlist is without a doubt that MG will release the remakes of Rance 1+2+3, since they are really missing in the overall Rance storyline. I think they will eventually, but it doesn't look like they will be announced anytime soon.

It was however not completely wrong, just out of date, which would technically make it completely wrong for the title in question.

Looking at comments on Fakku and steam reviews, it looks like: 18+ version using all age graphics in some places 18+ contents missing entirely missing voice files translation accuracy issues Fakku posted info on how to get a refund Dovac, SP's CEO wrote this statement. Looks like they worked on a branch and then that branch had the console version merged into it. The statement is very vague here. Who did the merge? SP or Lose? It kind of sounds like Lose because SP is not allowed to alter anything other than the text itself. That would not clear SP though because they should have caught this issue and contacted Lose prior to release. Also it tells nothing about why it was merged. It seems strange that somebody would just do it for fun and it doesn't sound like they planned to break the release either. Even if this could be an explanation for what happened, it still seems quite odd to me that such a mistake makes it all the way to a release. The question is what happens now? Will we get a version worth reading? When will it arrive and will it take an unofficial patch before everything is ok?

  22. Funny thing is, fan translations are less likely to make such a mistake. Fan translations comes in all qualities of the translation, but I have yet to hear about one, which cuts nude art by mistake. Unpaid workers have one huge benefit and that is you don't have to tell them to not proofread once more due to cost concerns.

  24. Yeah it's a leadership problem, not a problem with a specific low level worker. Considering he has the steam version, it's quite possible he did QA/QC on the steam version only and that version isn't affected, or rather it's intentionally affected. In other words you can't blame quality testing of the steam version at all. What you can blame is how fast the 18+ was made, which is a leadership decision. Somewhere a leader made the decision to make the 18+ version in a single day or something like that, including testing. Even if the worker in question wants to make it perfect, there simply isn't enough time to catch issues if you don't have the required number of days. In other words it looks like it's a cost cutting issue with the leadership, which backfired. Imagine if all the non-H scenes were identical, then they would have skipped out on paying for testing and nobody would have noticed. Playing the blame game gets us nowhere. That's kind of like knocking over a trashcan and then blame each other for days instead of cleaning up. Right now the case is very simple. SP messed up as a company and SP has to take responsibility and fix it. If one person screwed up, leadership made a bad decision, their internal structure is screwed or whatever. It doesn't really matter to anybody other than SP. Even if it happens to be the QC guy, who failed, the problem is still elsewhere for allowing a structure, which can ship such a blunder due to a single point of failure. Also it should have been fixed prior to QC meaning if QC is to blame, somebody else is also to blame. Personally I don't care who did what to lead to this problem. Just fix it ASAP and get it right this time. EDIT: Japan has already revealed the outcome of the blame game. At some point in time, the media bashed all doctors whenever a single doctor made one mistake. As a result, young people stopped wanting to study medicine because such people are all horrible and are on public display for being bad. Now people are dying due to hospitals being understaffed because more doctors retire than new are trained. It might have improved today as this is a few years old, but the idea is the same. If you are always bashed for having anything to do with a translation project even if you do everything right, you might quit or not start at all, effectively kill off the localization of VNs.
