The original Doom is an important game from my childhood and I have been pumped for this upcoming reboot ever since I saw that gameplay footage at E3 last year. I picked up a recent GameInformer issue because I saw it had a 12 page feature on the game. The read made me feel like a kid again. I skimmed the article, then read it again thoroughly, and I went through the online materials they had as well:
    http://gameinformer.com/doom
Proof that I love the original Doom :

I know Doom 3 was a bit questionable but I am really excited for this one. Anyone else looking forward to the release ?

Anime is the cancer of the Japanese entertainment industry. Because you got greedy bastards who make poor production decisions and screw them up especially if they are adaptations from light novels or visual novels.
Also, 90% of them are bullshit high school plots with no progression on romance. If you like getting tortured by fanservice and cockblocking, then go ahead and watch animes. They are perfect for masochists.

In my opinion Vn's are the better medium.. their lenght allows for better character portrayal..better settings..build up and overall richer stories...it's not a coincidence that  a lot of animes come as adaptations from Vn's and such (often butchering them aswell).
That being said I love anime aswell and there are way too many great series there aswell...vn's are harder to sell to people because not everyone is a reader or wants to put 10/30  to 50 hours (medium to long vn's) reading... anime while people still hold prejudice over the art style and what not  it's easier to get into for those who don't read much or rather not put in the time, the shorter episodes, weekly releases and such make it more appealing to a wider population.

In my opinion being the reader that i am and enjoying great stories i gotta say that to me Vn's are the better medium even if i love anime aswell

It is time now to answer a question I have been wondering about for a while now. Which medium of entertainment is better, VNs or Anime? Both have masterpieces and mediocre trash, but which is the overall better medium when it comes to quality. I like VNs more because there are a lot more things that can be done with VNs. There can be a lot more world building, more development for the characters that you wouldn't have time for in an anime, most of it isn't cocktease garbage like ecchi and harem series are, and most importantly, it's more engaging to me. I've never been engaged in an anime like I have in a VN. VNs have you use your imagination more than an anime would too.
Your opinions are welcome here. Just don't go off topic again. It seems to be a habit with some people nowadays

Sort of late to this discussion, but the game can run on Win 8 or 10 with a bit of prodding. No virtual machine required at all.
Here is a modded exe that uses Wine's DirectDraw code : http://www.mediafire.com/download/9x4z0uwx2bz2gd4/ds_wineddraw.7z
I've actually been playing with it for the past week, so this seemed like a decent time to put this out here.

Download a virtualbox (oracle should be fine?) https://www.virtualbox.org/
Get your hands into a windows XP ISO.
    Run the virtual box.
Go through the little tutorial that will be there, select winXP, oracle will install it into the virtual box.
    Profit, I guess.
Oh, Duel Savior also ran on Win7, so you could try that.

dont know any links to tuts but il type a quick one for ya.
    1. go here for oracle vm(free): https://www.virtualbox.org/
    2. go here for virtual box (again free) https://dev.windows.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/vms/windows/
i picked ie6 on xp, dont think it matters if you choose ie8 or not.
    3. download them and install oracle vm
    4. launch oracle vm, from there click on new, name your new machine, click on microsoft windows and then click on windows XP.
    5. next, choose how much RAM your oracle vm will have, i did about 300 so i do not lagg. Next click on use an existing virtual hard disk file, and if it isnt already selected navigate to the one we downloaded earlier, it should all look like this : http://imgur.com/omZCCH4 if its good, then go ahead and create your vm.
    6. next click on and start it up, should get xp logo so all good, if you don't and it says something about windows failing to start properly just go to "last known good configuration"
    7. now we are on desk top screen, this is where it gets somewhat hard but follow instructions and you are fine.
    8. First step go to devices ON TOP of the virtual box scren>shared folder settings>click on the folder with a green + sign on the right. then click folder path and go to other, and navigate to where duel savior or anything else you already have on your comp you want to run with your vm. click on auto mount, and click on make permanent.
9.after thats done go to start>computer>virtualbox guest additions>run through the installer, when windows gives you a warning sign during the install just hit yes or okay. reboot your vm.
    10.  go back to my computer, and at the bottom it will say network drives and it will open the folder you have linked, from there just run duel savior and all good to go.
notes: you can also redownload duel savior  to your vm but that takes up space and time, so no need. also if need help with anything not clear just pm or reply i will add more screen shot if need and srry for bad typing or grammar but i just rush this. also i would recommend running this as admin before you play the game. also no idea for windows 7, haven't heard anything bad about it so if you want to use that give it a go, instructions should still be same

you have to run it on windows xp OS or windows xp virtual box, direct draw has always had issues especially since windows 8.1 with directX. alternatives would be using wine i guess, although not sure on how to use it myself. ex below

Yes, indeed it is the biggest sin that Vn has commited so far...I don't understand why they'd put a short secret route like the one they did but not one for Chiaki after building her up so well and making everyone like her so much...It's just no fair!

We spent so much of our lives playing them, replaying them and trying to unlock every single CG. So much so that producing our very own Visual Novel has always been something we wanted to do for a long time now.

The Team has always wanted to recreate the splendour; the excitement of uncovering new plots lines and artistic wonders for you, the Visual Novel community. We are looking to create a world that you can immerse yourself in, and we hope that you'll enjoy the process together with us.   We are finally ready to start production on the title, codenamed "Project Cookies n' Cream", and we are glad to share with you the first glimpse, via a sketch, of one of the characters in the world.

she ascend above her oppressors? You decide her fate in my visual novel.
Claire, Heiress A young girl, Claire is the daughter of a wealthy and influential family. Her doe-eyed innocent look hides the fact that she is genetically enhanced to be extremely intelligent.

DarkZedge got a reaction from VirginSmasher in Opinions on VN companies' being close minded to the western market
Well we talked about it last time, you know i agree that Japanese Vn companies refuse to add an extra language to their vn's for some reason be it cost, time, or simply not thinking it appeals enough to the western market to make it worth it...whichever the reason it is quite annoying to see this keep on going, not only old vn's are not getting translated but newer ones also don't get English releases and it's quite aggravating for all of us i think...despite of being able to read Japanese or using things such as chitrans and all to help out, i find it strange that they still haven't added at least English as an extra language to their vn's for they've see it can sell well from Grisaia or Princess Evangile and Nekopara... maybe they'd never sell as well as they do over there locally in japan but it sells well enough for them to try and reach out to the west adding more support with languages.
I'm in the process of learning Japanese as many others are but i'm still not at the level i'd need to be to read untranslated ones, yet there's so much I'd love to read if they were translated...I hope some day they'll realize the potential gain from appealing to an extra language besides their own..they could find a potentially fruitful market in some places
We do have however companies such as JAST / Mangagamer / Sekai Project and others among the most well known that license some big projects and vn's but they often have issues in this department because they need permission from the original owners and companies of the materials in order to even begin to think of starting a translation and such.. and some companies just won't do so or it costs more than it's worth or than the profit they'd obtain on steam or other westernized markets..there's a lot that goes on in the licensing market and it's all about policies, money and such which is quite sad and disappointing but it's how the cookie crumbles and sometimes we need to understand why they don't bring the things we want to see in our markets, the change needs to happen and start over at the offices of the original makers of the vn's themselves to allow their licensed to be used and give permission granted getting their share of royalties and all that stuff to be translated or even used by publishers willing to do so

    Hi everyone,
I've been reading stuff on Fuwa for a while now but never actually participated  so I decided it was about time to actually create an account.  I'm big fan nakige like Little Busters and Grisaia no Kajitsu and also occasionally lighter stuff like Majikoi.  Currently I'm reading Kamadori Alchemy Meister and I'm really enjoying it, though it has enough game play that I'm not sure if that really counts as a VN. Oh, also I do video reviews for VN's and LN's on YouTube  as a hobby and I'd love to get some feedback on my work

    Cheers,
    Belmakor19

I realized that sometimes (or even very common) has secondary characters that are either better than the protagonist or are very interesting, and that motivated even more to complete the visual novel, I will cite one example.

I still know little visual novel, I probably read less than 90% of the people here, as I more play other types of games, but I thought interesting to discuss about it.
