DarkZedge reacted to Narcosis in Mangagamer to bring their visual novels to GOG
With Steam's latest fiasco, which clearly undermines their credibility as a publishing platform for both large studios and indie devs, GOG might have found their potential chance to expand their market share.
In all honesty, this is great news, considering how reluctant so far they have been in regards to vns. I doubt we'll see 18+ games released anytime soon if ever, but if that happens and GOG actually bothers to create a well managed market with decent control over what content gets published, it might as well turn into a new dawn for both western and japanese developers. Not to mention GOG falls under polish jurisdiction, which means a lot more lenient and reasonable laws regarding what can and cannot be published in terms of potential 18+ content.
DarkZedge reacted to Raithfyre in I'm part of Studio Élan. We just released a demo of our yuri VN, "Heart of the Woods."
Thanks for the kind words! The demo actually does have some exclusive content (the very first scene, as well as the chibi stuff, although the first scene might be included in the full game from the extras menu or something.)
Regarding HRP, we're still working on it, but it's mostly a matter of real-life issues causing a lot of delays and stuff. When we ran the Kickstarter most of us were in college or in one case even high school, so our availability has changed a lot since then. Most of us who have been working on other projects too are ones who do VN stuff full-time as a career (for instance, my day job is working for everyone's favorite localizer, Sekai Project) while some other members are doing dumb, boring stuff like medical research to cure cancer. Also, we were bad at estimating and planning schedules back then, so we dramatically underestimated how much time it would take (for most of us, HRP was our first ever project). So basically, we're still working on it at the same time as our other games, it's just taking longer than initially expected.

This hasn't been a secret for a long time
DarkZedge got a reaction from Plk_Lesiak in Valve threatening to remove VNs with adult content from steam?
Steam had always been inconsistent and vague when it came to what they allowed on their platform and what they didn't allow on it, I wished for them to finally make up their goddamn minds and gain some consistency BUT I hoped it'd be towards the opposite side of this (as unlikely as it was) we'll see where the industry goes from here and what actually ends up happening with this.
DarkZedge reacted to littleshogun in Is this forum dead?
Well, I wouldn't believe anyone else who use that scatterbrain... I mean that airheaded girl Tamamo Rimu as emoticon. But still bait or not the question of whether the forum is dead or not is worth to discuss, mainly because some of us did have the experience with the dead forum.
As for my opinion here, forum here is more or less like the place which is 'easy come, easy goes'. So what we can say is that forum itself is pretty much have it's up and down in regard of the activity, and Fuwanovel here is no difference ie have time when the visitor more and time when the visitor less. If anything, at least it's more active compared to some forum that I joined as well, and for the info I saw that people say the forums is have some decline in regard of activity.
But regardless of that as long as some people interested with Visual Novels, one way or another people would stumble at this community if some people tired with Reddit for the example, so at least we didn't need to worry about the state of the forum for now. Of course it'll be good if we see more members, but in regard of Fuwanovel I'm quite content with this situation as of now.
DarkZedge reacted to Mr Poltroon in Ace Attorney Fan Case: "A Batty Turnabout"
Ladies and Gentlemen. It has been two years since I last released a Fan Case. Astonishing. I have managed to take double the amount of time to produce something half the size.
This 'Fan Case' is a case for Ace Attorney written by yours truly. It has been written using an online case maker. In my magnanimosity, I am sharing it here.
Vampires (Probably) Mind-Reading (Maybe) Ghosts (Supposedly) Anti-Climaxes (Unquestionably) If you're looking for any of these things, play my trial! If you're not, play it anyway, because I'm so bad at writing it might not even have them! You must simply afford a fee: Your time.
I would accept nothing less than your most valuable commodity, after all.
If you happen to not know how to play a fan case of a game you've never heard of on a case maker you do not know how to use (What incompetence. Get on my level) I have produced a tutorial just for the likes of you. Updated just today!
What are you waiting for? Go over to this other thread and play it now! All you need is to click the link under the section designated: "Link:"
Ace Attorney Online is the website, forum, community, and free online case maker I used to create this fan case.
If you have any criticism, opinions, want to complain about the fact that I reused this entire section from my last thread, or just want to flame me, please leave your comments on either this thread or the other one I linked to.
Thanks for playing! ...If you do play, that is.
DarkZedge reacted to Dergonu in What do you think defines an experienced VN reader?
Not to mention, just because someone has access to more VNs, doesn't mean they actually read more than people who has access to less. While I can read Japanese, I'm certain there are many English only VN readers who have read many more VNs than myself.
I'd consider myself an intermediate VN reader at the moment. I know I have read over 100, though I do not have an accurate count. I do try to go through at least one or two VNs a month, depending on their length, and have kept that up pretty much since I started. Idk what it would take to be labeled an "experienced" reader, tbh. You'd have to have read more than me, at least.
DarkZedge reacted to Yuuko in Thoughts on Denuvo / DRM in Visual Novels?
Denuvo was tried to be used on eroge before but then it got cancelled for some reason and people boycott that game still pretty hard.
Currently the worst DRM is probably DMM player that requires players to be always online.
DRMplayer probably the most annoying to crack currently but it isn't bad DRM. It is used on Phantom Trigger and Momoiro Closet for example.
DRM is kinda whatever imo because companies such as Yuzusoft even don't use DRM because they know their game will sell and that DRM does nothing. Mostly stops Japanese people from sharing their games with a small friend ciecle (if using DRMplayer or such that is online verification.)
DarkZedge reacted to Narcosis in Tenkiame Translation Project
N A N I ? ! Translations proudly presents:
Game Name: Tenkiame | 天気雨 | Sun Shower
Developer & Publisher: GumiSoft (one of InterHeart’s subsidiaries; parent company mostly makes short nukige games)
Duration: Approximately 10 hours or so; around 12k lines
Genre: heartwarming romance, folklore
In the middle of summer vacation, the protagonist receives news that his grandfather had fallen ill. Taking the place of his busy parents, he travelled a bit reluctantly to his grandparents’ home. Luckily, his grandfather’s situation wasn’t serious, and he spent time with his grandmother, who he hadn’t seen in a long time. She mentioned that the greenery in the area will soon disappear as it is razed for urban development. He lamented that it was a sign of the times.
As he sat on the porch, feeling the cool breeze and listening to the soothing sound of the swaying wind chimes, he thought it was a very comfortable feeling. He noticed a small girl next to him, basked in the gentle sunlight. He was captivated by her beautiful hair, ears and smile. This is the beginning of a small love story with an innocent and curious white fox and a quiet and meddlesome fox.
[From Hau~ Omochikaeri!]
(Early trial version build)
Project Leader & technical mumbo-jumbo: @Narcosis
Translator: Allmighty Bee
TLC: the person in question kindly asked us to not reveal his name
QC's: Nanon, Arcadeotic, Major Popinfresh
Alpha Testers: won't mention names for now but they'll be revealed at some point
Honourable mentions go to @AtomCrafty, @binaryfail and everyone else, who we forgot about. Thanks for helping us, guys.
The common route is translated and currently undergoes editing and TLC, translation on the remaining girls' routes began as well. We plan to release the trial version first around this summer, which contains the whole common route. Full patch will follow afterwards. This is also to ensure the final translation will be released as a quality product, since we want to gather feedback after the trial release. The current estimates are rough, as we plan to deliver a polished, self-extracting patch. Either way, it shouldn't take that long, at least not as long as Biman (hopefully)
We want to thank @Arcadeotic and his team. Euphemic Translations will be providing us with additional help and several QC’s that we would’ve needed sooner or later. Big thanks to everyone who is now involved with the translation alongside us.
PROGRESS CHART (last update: 19/04/2018)
Common route: script delivered, TL: 100%, currently in editing
Shiro's route: script delivered, TL: ~5%
Kon's Route: script delivered, TL: 0%
Q: Is there any way to know the progress whenever I want?
A: Ask here and we'll answer with the current progress. Alternatively, we will update the progress chart from time to time.
Q: What is your team's translation speed?
A: Bee does 100 lines per day on average except weekends, technically you can calculate the precise amount of days it'll take to complete this translation (we are too lazy to do it ourselves, lol.)
Q: When are you releasing the patch?
A: The translation will be done in a year, more or less, and the patch? No idea, but definitely faster than Biman.
Q: No, but seriously - when will be the patch done?
A: When it's done™
Q: Why aren't you looking for help in regards to more translators?
A: We are trying to avoid that, as it will impact the translation's quality for a game of such length.
Q: Do you even have a team name?
A: Yes, it's "N A N I ? ! Translations."
Q: Do you have a website?
A: Yes, it's up, but it won't be presented until the trial version is out.
Q: Is there any sort of place I can reach you beyond this forum?
A: Yes - we have our own Discord channel, but it's currently not available to the public. We plan to open it after the trial release, though.
Q: Can you show any actual proof that you're translating the game, aka images and stuff?
A: Whenever we can, for now I'll just say that it's something in progress.
Q: Can I donate to you?
A: Better buy the game, when the translation's out.
Q: Will you release a style guide (aka whether "we're taking out honorifics or not", let's get real)?
A: Yes, but once the project is nearer to completion.
Currently we are fully staffed and not in need of any additional help. If any new positions open up, we will inform about that.
Anyway, that's everything. We will update this topic as often, as possible.
If you have any questions, suggestions, critique or simply want to thank us, feel free to leave a reply!
Thanks for reading!
