This is the only one out of the three where I haven't read the VN so I can't really comment on how good of an adaption it is.

Good enough, i believe. The two non-main girls' stories are a bit rushed, and I found the medieval part more enjoyable to read than to watch, but the other parts are exactly the same in both formats.

And is it just me, or is there a lot more fanservice than in the KyoAni adaptations?

I haven't seen the first season of the anime, but, to be fair, LB! visual novel has some fanservice as well.

Would I recommend it someone who hasn't read the original?

I watched some episode reviews on youtube as it was coming out, and some people literally couldn't understand what was happening in the later parts of the first season. 😄 I agree that this anime makes a nice addition to the VN if you read it, but I still consider it one of the worst anime I've ever watched. To be fair, I don't really watch bad anime.

A story isn't sacrificed because it has great art. Story is written by one person or a team who only focuses on story and other teams are working on their fields. Where do you even get it from that the story takes a hit cause they focused on the art? :mindismostcertainlyblown:

It can, if they hire cheaper and less experienced writers because they have limited budget. Though I'm not sure that's what happened here because I know little about this game.

What are your impressions on Meiya's and Sumika's death? Which one do you like more?

    Spoiler

Honestly, I wouldn't compare these scenes. Both were pretty impactful. Meiya's death scene is probably one of the most memorable scenes in the game, while Sumika's is more like the final nail in the coffin.

Also say your thoughts on the Kei's love on that glasses guy ? What do you think about it in both ML Extra and Unlimited?
She loved him and Also loved mc?

It's been a while since I read the game, so, honestly, I don't remember much about him. The thing that I know for sure is that I absolutely hated Kei's route in Extra, and, since it was the first route I played, I was pretty close to dropping the game. I'm glad I didn't.

nd suggest some VNs with  Characters like Hayase Mitsuki? She somewhat impressed me.

She's actually one of the main characters in another VN made by the same company, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. Sadly, that game is still untranslated.

Who is your favourite girl in MLA?

Meiya. I actually didn't like her at all in Extra, but she grew on me during Unlimited and Alternative.

Which part you didn't like in the VN?

Well, if we are talking about the trilogy as a whole, I'm not a big fan of Extra. As for Aternative, honestly, there are weaker parts, like the ending and the first h-scene, but I can't say that I outright hate any parts in the VN.

Has another company picked it up?

I don't think so. Not yet, at least.

I'm not sure how American laws work, but I wonder if it's even possible to pick it up from them without completely retranslating everything? It definitely would be possible if they went bankrupt, but they decided not to pay taxes instead, and right now they aren't allowed to any type of business, as far as I know.

  5. The Holy Grail of Eris turned to to be a surprisingly interesting mystery story. Though I'll probably switch to the LN when it comes out in March. Honestly, I thought that the villainess genre was done for, with a massive amount of absolute garbage that comes out regularly, but it looks like I found a gem.

I completed Muv luv Alternative and got some questions. (Spoiler Alert)

      Reveal hidden contents

1.What happened to Takeru at the End of Muv Luv alternative?
2.What are your impressions on the ending? I mean everyone in the team died! Especially during that Meiya part I lost it.
3.What is your overall Review on this VN?
4.Did Jinguuji Sensei's Death scare you? If it did Explain it. :(

    Spoiler

    1. Basically, what @Assistance said, with the addition that he forgot everything that happened in the Alternative world. So, depending on your interpretation, you could say that he's basically dead.

2.If you are talking about the ending before the epilogue, it was very good. The fact that pretty much everyone is dead is overall a natural conclusion to everything that happened in the game. As for the epilogue, well, I didn't like it at first after I finished, but later I learned to like it for what it is. Still, like many people say, MLA is mostly about the journey and not the ending.

    3. It's amazing. One of my favorite VNs that helped me to live though some bad parts of my life.

4.Definitely. Literally couldn't fall asleep the night after I reached that part.

I just want to know, am I the only person who hated that complete asspull of a "plot twist" in G-Senjou no Maou?

      Hide contents

Never (from what I remember) are we ever told that Kyousuke has a brother or siblings. Then literally right before the "twist" we are given an info dump about how Kyousuke has this brother that the story never bothered telling us about even though he plays a significant role in the plot. They didn't even bother to lazily foreshadow it.

Literally this breaks the very first rule of Knox's rules for Mystery stories: "The criminal must be someone mentioned in the early part of the story, but must not be anyone whose thoughts the reader has been allowed to follow." There are other reasons why I think G-Senjou no Maou is a crappy VN, but this is the factor that has always pissed me off the most. Mostly because I rarely see people talk about this very obvious and significant oversight. At least the soundtrack is good, was probably the only thing that kept me engaged enough to finish the VN...

    Spoiler

The funny part is that I kind of predicted the twist because I didn't believe that the authors were skillful enough to write a good conclusion if the twist didn't happen. 🙂 Like, I literally thought: "Don't tell me that the MC has a twin brother or something?"

Yeah, it was a pretty stupid twist.

  8. Two gender benders in one season, huh? Usually they happen, like, once every ten years, lol. I've heard that the one with the bishoujo ojisan is pretty funny, and the other one has a rather mixed reception. I personally lost interest in both after a few chapters, but I may return to them again. Probably not in the anime format though.

Leadale is cool, by the way. It's a pretty standard isekai, but relatively well done.

Arifureta season 2 is coming, huh. I haven't watched the first season, and I'm not going to, but the reception was terrible. And I've seen some videos that compared it to the original book, and, yeah, they skipped a lot of things. But who knows, I've heard that there were some production issues with the first season, and apparently the anime had only half of the budget it was supposed to have, so theoretically this season may be better. I'm not going to check.

Honestly, I probably won't watch anything this season. Maybe I'll check out a few episodes of Leadale to see how faithful they are.

Is Fate worth mentioning in this context? At the very least, Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven's Feel are very highly rated.

Well, the ufotable version of UBW. Dean version is known to be a complete mess. The original Fate anime is also pretty bad.

Well, I'll add 2006 Higurashi to the list of good VN adaptations. It has some issues, and it's not a perfect adaptation, but it's okay.

As for Key, Planetarian and Air anime are pretty good. So is Kanon, but I haven't played the original VN, so I can't compare it to the anime.

Ps. Also, does anyone know, is Island anime okay? I don't remember hearing any particularly angry rants about it that seem to follow after any particularly bad adaptation of a VN comes out.

The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter. And well, entertainment value is at least infinitely higher than Love Tyrant (that is, higher than zero). In a way, it might be my new favourite perv anime – it has this utterly charming quality of being full-on ecchi and being consistently mild in all it does.

Well... For some reason I was mildly interested in the original novel without knowing anything about it. Now I'm not interested anymore. :mare:

First, I've finished The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent which, sadly, fell more into cheesy romance tropes more than the isekai power fantasy in the second part of the season. It's quite an interesting specimen in general, as it does with josei tropes basically the same thing trashiest isekais usually do with shounen tropes – the world is just so convenient for the protagonist it's laughable, but at the same time, the female fantasy is infinitely more wholesome and gentle, so I kind of enjoy it. It's a slow-burn, pleasant series where conflict is barely existent and no forms of malice seem possible outside of natural disasters... But it's all heartwarming enough to justify its existence.

Oh, yeah, after I recommended it to you I decided to go and see how the anime is compared to the source material. I'm not sure if I actually watched it to the end. I think, there were still one or two episodes left. I think it gave the source material justice, as far as I can tell, considering that I read it years ago, before it was officially picked up for translation. They completely got rid of the game-like level system, but, honestly, it was only mentioned in the novel a few times anyway, and the anime pretty much showed everything that it implied in a different way.

I believe I mentioned it in the past, but the story being very wholesome is exactly the reason why I enjoyed it so much. I understand what you say about the world being convenient and the romance being cheesy. And, truth be told, I probably won't finish the novel since I pretty much got enough sweetness from this story already, and it's time to move to something else before it gets bad. On the other hand, I'd say that the fact that the conflict is nonexistent is a massive advantage this series has compared to many other "wish-fulfilling" female-oriented isekais. Honestly, I find it extremely annoying how many of isekais, both female and male oriented, add cheap badly written angst and drama just for the sake of there being drama, and to make the later "healing" parts seem different. Usually, the protagonist is literally the kindest and the most gentle person ever, but everyone bullies them and hates them just because they are assholes or idiots, and etcetera. Actually, this novel/anime manages to subvert many cliches typically associated with the stories like that. It's has an extremely common beginning, with two people being summoned, and the MC being neglected after that. On the other hand, the MC quickly found her place in the world; the other characters realized her worth and didn't try too much to make her life miserable due to their stubbornness; and, finally, the fact that the other summoned person didn't turn out to be a literal Hitler in a body of a schoolgirl. Overall, this story is still very cliche, but the fact that it skips these particular tropes, in my opinion, just make it feel more tasteful. Sure, it's a wish-fulfillment story, but it doesn't pretend to be something else, and it does the job it takes extremely well.

I'd watch this series after a difficult day or when I feel bad. I wouldn't recommend to watch it if you want something epic or something like that, but it should be given. :)

Maybe it'd be less so if such shows were common, but this specific spin on isekai wasn't something I've seen before and felt fresh enough to not bore me.

Well, since I read a lot of female-oriented isekais in novel and manga format, I pretty much got to the point where it's hard to impress me, and I find many of the common tropes extremely annoying. On the other hand, for some reason not many of them go this particular route. And, like we should probably expect from something that originates from web-novels, the writing in most of those is a lot worse, so I'd say Seijou still stands out.

Other than Kotori route, Only in shizuru route Kotori sacrificed herself. (Her status is only known in these two routes)
What happened to her in Lucia and Chihaya routes?
(I can guess she is dead in Akane's route )

    Spoiler

I don't really remember since it's been almost a decade since I finished Rewrite, but weren't there some hints that she survived in Lucia's route? I remember in the very end that someone mentioned something about a druid being active around the city, or something like that.

  13. About 2:

    Spoiler

Different routes in Rewrite were written by different people, and there are quite a lot of inconsistencies, sadly. I think it's true that in some routes he seems to use his abilities quite extensively, but t isn't enough for him to turn into a familiar, but in Shizuru's route he seemingly doesn't use them that much, but somehow it's enough.

    Terra spoilers:

    Spoiler

If we consider Romeo Tanaka's routes as "canon", then it becomes a lot more consistent. In Terra he obviously uses his abilities a lot more than he does in Akane's or especially Kotori's routes, and he becomes a familiar there and not in the other routes, so we can more or less gauge how much he needs to use them.

Well, maybe you can still explain everything by some sort of handwaving. :)

There's also Angel Beats! and Charlotte.

Well, Charlotte is not a VN, so it makes sense that it wasn't included, since this topic is about VNs. But if we include these, there's another anime from this year also done by Maeda. I forgot its name. I haven't seen more than one episode, but it seemed like pretty typical Key stuff.

Edit. It's The Day I Became a God.
