  1. I wouldn't call root double's route current a route. On the other hand just finished Aiyoku no Eustia - skipping every route and went straight to the true route. I loved the characters and the setting and its one awesome vn - it really does deserve the high vndb score - my only complaint is with regards to the whole ending though.
  2. Usually answer mode makes this easy! Here's a hint, I'll put it in a spoiler tag just in case people see it as spoiler)
  3. Very rarely do people read vns for the graphics! (maybe except nukige readers) Graphics wise all of them aren't so far behind the stuff in 201x (ok maybe umineko is borderline) Given whats rated high on your vndb go forever21

Try unplugging any usb drives and network cables for a test and see if you can isolate which device is doing it. If you are techy enough i would unplug some of the non windows internal hdd as a test. Usually its detecting devices before the bios/windows load.
  5. Root D is packed with flashbacks. Extend edition has a bit less from what i heard. A normal reader would have a fair idea as to what would happen in the final route after reading the first two routes, thus making the revelations quite "underwhelming", but people should appreciate the level of detail and hints were placed into the first two routes and how everything works within the boundary of the world's setting shown. I sort of see the writer had a very different message in the final route between RD and Ever17 - RD is about (spoon) feeding the answers to all the mysteries presented to you (not much surprises as a normal reader would figure out some of them already) whereas ever17 has a very defined goal as to what needs to be done, with heaps of emotions attached to the reader to achieve the goal (without spoiling on actual content)
  6. I don't think the game ever gave a proper explanation to that, except maybe "i promised so i must survive" Though in my mind I like to think it was his military training. Personally i was more happy they finally explained what Grisaia is.
  7. Have a look at Hanahira (https://vndb.org/v5244) - lots of different opinion there...
  8. Go to Japan and live there? On a more serious note here's a slightly different approach to learning Japanese for reading VNs: Usually people who watch anime a lot will actually have some level of listening skills - that should get you into reading VNs which are close to fully voiced without having issues understanding things when combined with a week or two of hirogana/katakana memorization, pick your target VN after that (Hanahira's a good example) Then read Ixrec's Guide to Japanese (http://amaterasu.tindabox.net/guide/j-comi.php) fully then apply it for each sentence in the VN and focus on BDT each sentence into pieces in your head combined with your favorite text extraction program (Use romanji display to help out those pesky Engrish Katakanas) - it'll be slow to start since your available vocab will be pretty low - BDT will help you learn to extract the important information from each sentence combined with text extraction program for vocab. The next step up from that is building up vocab - some people say dont' rely on romanji but it seems to be a good starting point than to face the kanjis - this is so that you can comprehend in an efficient manner by recognising romanjis. Eventually you'll recognise common words and you should be less reliant on the romanjis and more on the actual hirogana/katakana/kanjis shapes. Some point down the track you want to turn off Romanji display and see if you are hanging in there. Remember the Kanji is somewhat useful in the vocab stage - so if you do run into the kanjis you can make a reasonable guess as to what it means, and move on.
  9. I have a cheap win 8.1 tablet of similar specs for my reading pleasure as well, an acer iconia to be exact. Haven't had any problems with what i have read so far (mostly stuff before 2013) - though keep in mind lots of old vns don't play nicely with win8.1/10 (eg/ muv luv)

Some questions: Roughly how long is it in total? Would it make sense to skip some routes as they arent as relevant to the true route? And how difficult is it language-wise? Hard sci-fi tend to be pretty hard to digest for me in japanese...
  11. Done the survey. If merchandise counts as VN purchasing then I'm sure the amount for me would be in the higher bracket.
  12. As I am not familiar with the web space environment you have, I can only make suggestions to make your job easier. Why not try to plug the mysql database via odbc (assuming it is available) into a flat view excel workbook - or even MS Access for old-school table editing. That way you get the power of excel/access on your side to do all the editing and copying. As for your "wants" - xcel macros/vba for a quick and dirty job which will take a few hours to whip up to convert your html column assuming you know what you're doing. Though you still have the offline issue - this is where i'm not sure what kind of tools are available in your environment - if you are looking for a custom fancy asp/php solution then it's not going to be easy (to make and to maintain - the latter is more important)
  13. There is muv luv alternative if you are looking for loads of action, but you have to read the muv luv first.
  14. I'm running windows 10 and comyu works fine, since you're running 64 bit you will need that version dll. Your directory looks the same as mine. Did you install directx 9 after upgrading? Because I have noticed directx 11 or whatever is shipped with windows 10 doesn't have backwards compatibility to 9 and you'll have to install it again. Edit: if you want to dig into in further, see if you have the following DLLS in the folders and that their version matches the ones I have posted (assuming you're on the 1521 November windows 10 update) - aside from the dlls in the comyu folder these are the ones being shown in use from the resource monitor, see d3d9.dll below - that's directx 9: Image PID Module Name Version Full Path 15. I run into this problem all the time when I started out reading in Japanese - not as much of a problem after a while though as I tend to have an overall feel as to what they're trying to say from the context of the previous sentence. When I started out - If it's just in the common route/not an important part then I'd ignore it and move on. However in an important segment (I can usually feel it if it is), I tend to unjumble all the nouns and verbs from the speech connectors and throw them into jparser/google translate (this is where having good knowledge of the grammar is useful). From there I'll piece together the nouns and verbs and figure out what it's likely saying. It's slow but it works. Well worked for me so far for some pretty tough VNs (eg/ Ruitomo + FD/Grisaia Meikyuu and Rakuen). There's a guide to amaterasu somewhere on breaking down the sentences but it's down at the moment.
  16. That's strange I just started Comyu fine and I'm running windows 10. If you're running 32 bit windows just make sure the version.dll isn't there For 64 bit windows make sure the version.dll is there. I am running in Japanese locale though - you'll still need that for some games (eg/ favorite)
  17. Sorry if this is a stupid question but did you install it in C:\Program Files\FAVORITE\? Reinstall it at C:\FAVORITE\... if it is. I'll assume you have jap locale and date format set correctly. PS: I can't see the images either.
  18. I get that if my computer is not connected to the net, remove the internet translators. Go to option -> Translation -> Additional Translators Drag anything you see on the left (eg/ google) to the right.
