  1. During my project's time on Kickstarter I was constantly contacted by voice actors. I felt really terrible because I'm sure they were quite good, but voice acting carries all of the risks mentioned here. I think that voice acting should just be one side way to get into whatever industry one is pursuing, because it is so very subjective.

For my part, if I could afford voice actors, I would still be incredibly picky about them and unfortunately they're often shooting in the dark because they don't know what roles they might fit. I'd have loved to be a VA when I was younger, but the fact is that you generally have to be very skilled AND do a wide range of voices, or you could end up out of work for a while.

  2. So for what purpose would any small studio use anything other than Ren'py, with the exception of those who build their own engines?

Honestly this thread is full of opinions more than facts though... ._.

many small studios use engines as their first game, by hiring someone to build an engine it could take over 2 years and $9,000 to get that code. thats also not the worst part, since its a new engine, the one who build it might never explain how it works to other developers. this kind of stuff happens even to AAA games, examples include mabinogi, onverse, blender game engine, Quake engine, and so on.

nope its real facts, i tested many of them (not kirikiri since its unreadable and its exactly the same like Novelty). so here how its done to prove that i have tested them:

renpy: i made my games on it and tested on android, http://firecat.itch.io/serious-to-the-end

tyranobuilder: it had a trial test (the removed it when it launched on steam) and the games can be tested here: https://itch.io/jam/tyranojam15

Novelty: tested and played this game, it wasnt defferent from renpy its just that it has yet to build other OS: http://visual-novelty.deviantart.com/art/Secret-Journal-Guardian-538656289

Belle: i'm still working on my game for it, in the meantime compare the two engines (Tyranobuilder http://baka-kun.itch.io/butterfly-effect-vn vs Belle http://fr33mind.github.io/Belle/demo.html )

Unity plugin: Fungus - i really did try to follow this official video guide and yes i try to find a game but couldent find any, https://youtu.be/u5fhU7xAz2o?list=PLiMlyObJfJmUohJ_M2pJhtrNKuNECo2Uk

Cloudnovel: tested and played this game - http://cloudnovel.net/play?n=bc5599a0c9b

as you can see, i did everything that should be done to make the facts as simple as possible.

I didn't mean to imply that your information was just opinions. Pretty much the rest of the comments in the thread other than yours was though, as far as I could tell.

My question was more wondering why wouldn't a small VN developer wouldn't just stick with Ren'py because of all the facts you presented made the rest look pretty bad honestly. I don't see any real drawbacks to it unless you're fluent in one of the other languages already.

  3. We've been featured on Hardcore Gamer! http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2015/09/04/otome-visual-novel-mystic-destinies-is-already-half-funded/165838/

As someone who's using the dark theme, half the text in your post is literally invisible

Are you referring to the pictures or the written text? And if you please would, can you show me a screenshot? I'm trying to replicate it but I'm not sure where to find the dark theme :S

  4. Hi, I am writing on behalf of my team at Star Maiden Games.

    Story

You are an intelligent and practical nineteen-year old girl, in your first year of attending one of the best universities in Japan. A few years ago, your mother married a wealthy business owner. You plan to study hard and take his business over one day. Life can be tough at times, but it isn't complicated.

That is, until your mother takes you to her ancestral home. It's there that you learn of the supernatural world when she performs a ritual on you. You learn that you are not human, but actually a rare type of being called a homunculus. You were created in your mother's image to serve as a transfer for her curse of immortality. And apparently, her ancient and potent sorceress powers.

After your magical powers are awakened, you learn through a series of events that not only does your university hold courses for supernatural students, but that many of your classmates aren’t even human. Through your new mystical classes, you're informed about a threat to you that requires you to team up with a partner until you can get your powers under control.

Along the way, you'll both learn to hone your powers as you fight intense battles. But as the semester wears on, you'll also become closer as classmates - and maybe even lovers.

You've never needed anyone. But at the end of it all, there might just be one person you want.

  5. I found these forums out of nowhere, but I got excited when I found out there was a whole community dedicated to VNs. I am gearing up to announce our Kickstarter VN in the correct forums, but I wanted to stop by and say hello! :)
