onorub got a reaction from GXOALMD in "Literary culture vs anime culture" at the core of "translation vs localization" discussion?
Just a thought that ocurred to me, but the whole "translation vs localization" discussion made me recall one thing: whenever a book has lots of foreign expressions, the publisher just deals with it by slapping a glossary at the last pages, in a way that anyone going the extra mile by actually localizing the dialogue looks foolish. With anime and JRPGs however, there is a certain fear of the dialogue not flowing well with the voices or to the faster spectator reading, so the dialogue is actually localized.
Without getting in whether translations or localizations are the correct direction, my thought is that maybe the very idea of localization in visual novels is ingrained in publishing companies due to JRPGs/anime and translators are treating VNs as anime or games rather than books, perhaps without even realizing it. Does that make sense?

Maybe not what you're looking for because it's an all-ages BL, but Animamundi is an amazing example.

Been watching some conspiracy theory icebergs for fun and i'm surprised at the lack of "aliens are fallen angels" and "humanity has reset many times" theories. "Space voids were caused by alien singularity" and "God is a 4th-dimensional being" would've been neat to see too.

That's an exaggeration. The thing with Kiminozo is that it has a pretty messy situation when it comes to character relationships, so someone will br really sad regardless of the girl you choose, but that's different from having only bad endings.

onorub got a reaction from Dreamysyu in VN presentation take: mix between puppet plays and comic books?
When it comes to presentation in VNs, one discussion that i've seen is that VNs are more like plays than novels. I'd agree with this take because authors that become overly descriptive with every action as if writing a novel makes the reading more tiresome than if a visual or sound effect was used. Thinking about it a bit more, i went a step further and now i think that sprite presentation in VNs may be akin to puppet plays, because the art limitations make it to that the characters can't have the same amount of expressions as regular plays do. Add that to my tiny experience with messing with VN engines where if you're making a conceptual script beforehand, making it in a play format feels more confortable than in a novel format. Finally, the way CGs and sprites are combined work similarly to comic books, where the cooldown moments make more use of certain angles and tricks that the present medium has to make the scenes more interesting while the big key moments have more complex imagery, with the definition of a big key moment being up to the narrative genre.
I'd like to know more thoughts about it. What storytelling media would you compare VNs to from a presentation standpoint?

I gotta say, when the last update happened (at beginning of the year i think?) this site would eat up my google chrome memory and make the site laggy for some reason, specially in blog posts with lots of pictures. I was too lazy to report it and just began to post less instead, but it seems the site became smooth again. Good job!

onorub got a reaction from MaggieROBOT in How do you think will be the future VNs?
    from a writing standpoint
about vanilla eroge: it's gonna depend on how many people get inspired by Rance 10 and Musicus, if nothing happens and writers keep flocking to moege then it's best to lose all hope.
about console-only: probably the same as last decade, meaning pretty good but won't set the world on fire.
about otome,bl and yuri: with how much the writing on them improved in the last decade, will probably be the best alternative that we can get.
about OELVNs: hopefully keep getting more ambitious to the point of reaching their prime in the next 10 years.

Finished Totono and while i thought the storytelling was a lot better than DDLC, one thing i found interesting was the different approaches each vn had for their true ending and the reason why i prefer DDLC's is on the spoilers.

onorub got a reaction from Volt in On "main heroine" route psychology
One thing i noticed is that while some VNs have main/cover heroine routes with the assumption that they are gonna be played first (Rewrite and original MajiKoi are what comes up off the top of my head), a lot of people in the VN community seem to prefer doing the main heroine route last.
With that in mind, i ask: when it comes to main heroine routes on VNs with no enforced route order, is it smarter on the writer's part to put the least amount of plot reveals (assuming it's gonna be played first) or the most amount of plot reveals (assuming it's gonna be played last)?

Finished the first route of Hashihime of the Old Book Town. I'll probably wait a while before going for the other routes because i keep hearing they aren't as good and are better seen as extras. Overall i thought everything about it was amazing, from the art to the story, hell even the H-Scene was better written than what i usually see in VNs. Tamamori might be my favorite VN protagonist now, i never thought i would see a character that could take Okabe Rintarou's comedy and Kurosu Taichi's unpredictability and combine them so flawlessly.

A little off-topic but please don't give in to the Corona Virus scare, the only way a young translator is gonna die is if he has really crappy immunity. Not having a vaccine for it is indeed troublesome, but if you're young with regular immunity it's just something that the doctor is gonna recommend a week of bed time, quarantine aside.

I hilariously ended up getting more into the "high-school-romance-genre" after going through the Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side series and knowing the struggle of saving up money for a yukata or patiently waiting for a flea market sale in order to get nice clothing for cheap, so every time a moege girl shows up in a yukata or in nice casual clothing for a date i go all "YEAH YOU GO GIRL".

About the addtional info: while Chaos;Child has a fairly separate story from Chaos;Head, the ending of the latter sets up the background for the setting of the former and the same goes for the Mask Utawarerumono games in relation to the original. I chose 428 because that's the one i liked the most, but that's not exactly for weebs like the other choices, lol.

Anime: One Punch Man Season 1, boring answer but i just loved the comedy and animation in it.

onorub got a reaction from MaggieROBOT in High-school heroines getting less appealing as you get older?
I used to mainly care about how appealing the looks of the heroines are and only care about personalities when it came to chemistry with the protagonist, but as i got older the anime traits of high-school heroines made me see them more as small animals rather than girls i'd actually bang. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

There are, but they're essentially game overs that don't even give CGs (which is they're not featured in any walkthroughs).
