When you reach the "one year from now" gap where you said you'd significantly slow down on the VN of the month, are you gonna start doing more reviews?
-
I feel it's a mistake to say covid had an impact on vn attention because while the virus was first detected in late 2019, the spread of it only became mainstream news in early 2020. I blame lack of creativity more than anything.
-
Right now my top VN of 2018 is Summer Pockets, but that will likely change once i go through Rance 10 (waiting for the translation like a good boy). Butterfly Seeker seemed pretty promising given EGS ratings, though.
-
Sasasagu could've been one of the best VNs ever if the plot didn't become so grand, but it's still a really good story. It'd likely surpass Mirai Radio if it had a proper PC version.
-
Can't comment on your pick, but right now mine for VN of 2017 is Monster Girl Quest Paradox RPG Part 2. The Paradox RPG series is not as thought-provoking as original Monster Girl Quest, but it's still a seriously fun multi-dimensional story.
-
Can't comment on your pick since i've never played it, but mine is BLge Hashihime of the Old Book Town (also favorite of the decade). The one route i've read from it was such a well done time loop storyline that it essentially made them obsolete to me. Also, i hope you prepare yourself, because 2017 is god-awful if you ignore doujins.
-
Can't really counter your pick since i've never tried that one. But i'll have an unpopular opinion and go with Steins;Gate 0 as my favorite of 2015. The plot was more of a side-story than anything and most of the new characters weren't memorable, but i just loved the route system too much.
-
Fata Morgana Fandisc is the best thing on this list by a mile, IMO.
-
I'll do a little cheating and consider Rose Guns Days the top VN of 2014 because that's the year where the Last Season was released, thus turning it into a total package. I'm sure the popular opinion would be Chaos;Child, though.
-
Hachimyoujin is my favorite eroge of 2014 at this point in time. There are about 3 all-ages VNs from that year that i liked better, though.
-
I'll be the boring guy and go with Kara no Shoujo Second Episode (yet to play Komorebi no Nostalgica, though). I'm surprised Garden of Fifth Zoa is so lacking in reviews, since i see that VN's ending theme being played in compilations all the time.
-
Now that you likely did all of Propeller's top tier VNs, what would be your top 5? For me it's 5) Chrono Belt, 4) Evolimit, 3) Ayakashibito, 2) Asairo, 1) Bullet Butlers.
-
I'd like to know more detailed thoughts of yours about White Album 2. I liked ironically, because the way the story kept you engaged for some of the most toxic characters in the genre was quite fascinating.
-
Honorable blocked mention goes to Shingakkou (author is the main writer of Gore Screaming Show), which i never touched but i keep hearing is the best BLge ever made.
-
Even though cutesy style of commentary is not up my alley at all, one thing i do appreciate about vtubers is that they brought back the "hidden face" aspect that youtube gaming had back in the late 2000's. I feel that community became too much of a cult of personality in the early 2010's with the face reveals.
-
Fortissimo is a cliche battle royale story, but it's still pretty good. Also, even if you weren't the biggest fan of RuiTomo, i highly recommend the fandisc because the final route in it is unlike anything else in the series.
-
Just wondering, what rating were you going to give Fake Azure Arcology with the routes you played?
-
As far as i know, the playthroughs are meant to complement the reviews and not the opposite. If you have to choose between reviewing VNs based on a BGM-less experience and playing everything off-screen, it's best to play everything off-screen.
-
Just link japanese playthroughs by this point whenever possible (it's easy if you look up the japanese name of the VN on google and filter with 20+ minute videos). Then again, there is always the option of unlisting everything so that only the people that read the review can watch playthroughs like you did with Sayooshi. You would release playthroughs so fast and often that you were bound to leave stuff uncensored by accident, so just making another channel and going your merry way is not really an option.
-
I consider it a classic among classics, but believe it or not i ended up slightly disappointed. So many people called it the best thing since sliced bread that i thought for sure this would make my top 5 and it didn't because i found stuff to complain about (mainly the pure adventure game portions and how over the top the final battle was), similar thing happened with SubaHibi. I'll still praise Ichijou's route until the end of time as the greatest antagonist buildup i've ever seen on the genre, though.
-
I just knew you were going for Abyss Homicide Club. MajiKoi is on my personal top 10 while Kurai Nichiyoubi might be the most underrated VN of 2009 imo.
-
There WAS a horrible Flyable Heart translation, but it was so bad VNDB mods considered it a troll and deleted the entry for it. One of the highlights of that translation was "taiyaki" being translated as some nine-word atrocity.
Special mention goes to Amagami for being my favorite dating sim of all time.

Talestune in general gets zero attention despite having a bunch of fantranslations, even for a doujin group i wonder why it's that bad, as i thought Ludesia was fairly enjoyable and i might try Harvest December.
Since you're including blocked games with missable reviews, you'll probably see a bunch of otome and BL when you get to the 2010's. 2011 in particular is the year where those genres really stepped their game up for me.

Oretsuba - One of two more well-rated Navel VNs series, and speaking about Navel it's just too bad that we got the weaker series (Shuffle) in English instead of this and Tsukiyori. That said, I won't deny though that I can know more VN thanks to my experience playing and finishing Shuffle (I even did open the Gamefaqs because I always stuck at Kaede's route while I want to get Primula's route, and turned out I need to finish Nerine's route first). As for Oretsuba, I did hear that there's a lot of praise on how the writer (Ou Jackson) manage to write very interesting character developments, and that Moogy did classify this as being hard to translate. It's hard to talk about the spoiler here even though I know the deal behind this, so let me just say that Oretsuba is definitely not a harem VN lol. Nishitama art here also show that she can't jump out of her character drawing, although I didn't remember that I have much problem with her art back at Shuffle. Lastly I hope that we caan see this being translated, even though it's impossible seeing that Navel did separated themselves from Mangagamer and this is one of their well known series.
The thing is that for a proper translation for OreTsuba, the translator would have to do good research on lingo for japanese youth, THEN do good research on lingo for english-speaking youth to keep the same spirit in the dialogue. Unless the translator is an obsessed fan doing a major passion project, he would probably have to request twice the regular pay.

I'm going with ATRI, but at this point my VN of the year takes are gonna be highly unneducated as i dislike reading untranslated VNs from less than two years ago.
