AKB4ty7 reacted to Clephas in The korean war is over.
I'd like to see this be a real end for the troubles on the Korean Peninsula... but the likelihood of this being a permanent solution is very, very low.  Part of this is that NK can't afford for peace to visibly break out.  It is only the existence of the 'virtual enemies' (the US and their Southern neighbors) that has allowed the regime to hold onto power for so long.  As such, cynic that I am, I'm suspicious that he might just be using this to give him a chance to rebuild while immediately going back to his old policies the first chance he gets...
Realistically, NK has to find a way to stabilize its food and fuel situations, above all other things.  This provides an opportunity to do so, and if sanctions cease, they will also have a chance to legitimately obtain technologies that might allow them to make strides toward resolving those problems in the long term, as well as the short term.  Unfortunately, it is questionable whether the regime will have the patience to take the long view on things, and their stated goal of 'reuniting the homeland' has not been officially set to the wayside, despite the talks.
Another issue is that I honestly can't see Trump keeping his mouth shut.  He is constitutionally incapable of not claiming credit for anything positive and spreading blame for anything negative.  He is also incapable of just being quiet for long, in general.  If he leaves it to his Secretary of State (the new one), there might be real progress to repairing (or just building) the US as well as SK relations with NK.  The likelihood of that is abysmally low, however.
As for issues with Japan... while the Imperial Household itself has a stated (indirectly and in a generalistic fashion, as has become traditional since WWII) aversion to historical revisionism, the government and society in general isn't.  Nationalism and historical ignorance are on the rise in Japan, and the current leadership are sadly very much in line with that trend (probably because they've gone through so much effort to create it).  While we can depend on Japan's government to want the US presence there as a shield for the foreseeable future, if SK agrees to throw out the US presence (something a surprising number of citizens want), you could see things become a lot more unstable there rather quickly.  Worse, China might decide to take drastic measures in order to reduce the US presence on the mainland of Asia (to be specific, they might encourage territorial ambitions from NK if the US withdrew from SK).
In other words, peace on the peninsula is a potential powder keg for the region... at least, that's how I see it.

AKB4ty7 reacted to Clephas in Any VN recommendations that will run on my specs
In my experience, there are relatively few VNs that won't play on the computer described above.  However, there are some companies and engines your computer might have trouble with.
Giga's VNs made after 2012, including Baldr Sky Zero, will probably have trouble on your system, to varying degrees.  If you absolutely HAVE to play them, take down all programs unrelated to the game.  Instead of using a walkthrough from a browser, turn it into a pic file like a bitmap or a jpeg that can be viewed without using editing software.   The big one will be Baldr Sky Zero though... even my gaming desktop that can handle the Skyrim Special Edition at Ultra at 60 fps will sometimes fall apart on that game because of the bugs in its design.  This is a solution for when you start having trouble.
Anything made by Minori.  Minori's games' animation (primarily in more recent games) eats up a lot more RAM and CPU than it should, considering the results.  I'd suggest turning off the animation if you play one of their games and start having trouble.
Anything based on the Kirkiri engine will be playable.  Some gameplay VNs made after 2014 might be chancy.
VNs don't generally have high-spec requirements.  The only real problem I see with your specs is the CPU... and even that shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't keep a whole bunch of windows and applications open at once.   Internet browsers, torrent clients, the Steam client, etc... you should take all these down if you are having trouble.
If you still have problems with games that fall well-within your computer's specs, then you should probably think about doing a full format and restore on your computer's hard drive, because you've probably got bloat programs running in the background that you don't know about... not to mention potential malware.  If you are using a store-bought computer that came to you as-is, then it is almost inevitable that the company that put it together will have put proprietary crap that has no practical use for you but eats up resources on your computer.  Windows 10 computers are particularly bad about this, because microsoft includes a lot of absolutely worthless software that you will never, ever use... such as internet explorer and Cortana.  lol

Silverio Vendetta... part of Zephyr's fighting style is manipulating his enemies through wordplay and provocative actions.
Amatsutsumi  (no malice in it though...)
Draculius (mostly at humorous moments or during H/romantic scenes, though)
Semiramis no Tenbin (heroine, not protag... Ami is insanely manipulative)

    Gurenka
    Para-sol
    Soranica Ele
    Edit:
@AKB4ty7 These have varying levels of balance between serious and non-serious elements.  Gleam Garden is probably not precisely what you are looking for, since the darkness is out in the open and the school is a prison, for instance.  Para-sol was written by a guy with a penchant for old-style yandere and incest, so it is a bit weird... also, you have to download the full updates in order to get the entire story (which is annoying).  Gurenka, Yurikago, Ruitomo, ExE and the 3rdEye games are the ones most obviously fitting in with what you want.  Dies Irae, Jingai Makyou, Soranica Ele, and Zero Infinity all have pretty high difficulty levels (considering who produced them, that should go without saying), so you might want to leave them for last if you don't want to challenge yourself.

AKB4ty7 reacted to Clephas in For love of VNs: Chicken Soup for the Soul
This list is entirely devoted to VNs that serve to provide healing, light catharsis, laughs, and warm fuzzy feelings.  Understand, most of the games on this list will be moege, charage, or nakige, with almost no exceptions.  Some of these, I would not rate highly by my own tastes, but in the eyes of someone seeking this quality, would be awesome.  I WILL NOT provide a translated list, as the last time I played a translated VN was more than three years ago, and thus others would be a better judge of what to include in the translated portion of it (hint, hint, Kaguya, Steve, and other Fuwa vets).  A great story is generally not a requirement for this type of game, which is why I didn't always give them as high a rating as they would deserve from fans of the genre.  Heavy drama (outside of the 'it is definitely going to end happily' type that you get in nakige) is not acceptable.  I am going to be very picky for this list, as games that leave you with a bad aftertaste or leave you wondering why you bothered waste people's time, lol. (Hoshimemo would be borderline out of bounds, if you want a clear marker of what not to include.  This kind of game has to be almost devoid of violence and meant to heal or soothe)

    Untranslated:

Haruka ni Aogi, Uruwashi no (seriously, this game is my universal recommendation from this type)
    Moshimo Ashita ga Harenaraba
Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru ~Futari no Elder~ (rare example of sequel far surpassing the original in every aspect)
    Toppara Zashiki Warashi no Hanashi
Sukimazakura to Uso no Machi (yes, this starts out kind of sadly, but its generally light nature and characters definitely make it soothing)
Koisuru Natsu no Last Resort (as I said in my comments on this game, it is like a much weaker imitation of Uruwashi no)
Clover Days (another recent addition, perfect example of a light charage with no serious drama that isn't solved relatively quickly)
Chiisana Kanojo no Serenade (pure moe, stops just short of moeblob, totally light, no really serious drama)
Kaminoyu (no human heroines... but this game is enormously soothing and decently funny)
Shiro no Pikapika Ohoshi-sama (this was the game that came to mind when I thought of making this list)
    LoveKami
    Sakura Bitmap
    Strawberry Nauts
Tenshin Ranman - Lucky or Unlucky!?
    Natsuiro Recipe
AI Love: Koisuru Otome wa Kikai-jikake

YES I am being very picky about this list.  Not every nakige is soothing/healing for the reader, and not every moege is capable of providing easy laughs and adorable cuteness.  The basic reasoning behind all of these choices is: emotional release from sympathy/empathy with the characters and an overall sense of relief of pent-up non-violent stress for the reader.  I could have put up to three times this many games up here if I'd been less picky... but then I would have been wasting the readers' time.

    Have fun, yall.

This was actually irritating me a bit in Conjuerors VN contest. I had the impression that many voters thought that Hatsusaku is just a light hearted moege. But most comments I've seen from people who actually read it implied more that it's a more sophisticated and mentally exhausting VN, maybe even comparable to the true route of ef. You hardly need a 'recovery VN' for a feel good moege.

I can't really tell 10 VNs for this but I think everyone should play Irotoridori no Sekai and Irotoridori no Hikari

Also my list would probably be full of moe since I mostly play those. I really love moe.

Just finished my first big untranslated visual novel, Astraythem! With my vocabulary of ~2000 kanji and ~3000 words it took me about 6 days of focused reading. What is this feeling of accomplishment?

Loved it while playing, but grew to hate some parts of it more and more towards the end (see spoiler rant).  If you've played it, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this game.
