  1. It's always been their unofficial policy, but it was inconsistently applied. This lead to various people, including some connected with MG, to bemoan publicly the inconsistent application of the rules. Well HOORAY FOR EVERYONE looks like they're getting consistent, I hope everybody is happy
  2. Quality discussion has always been quite rare. It's very simple. If you want more discussion on the forums, then feel free to generate that discussion.
  3. Reddit is inactive compared to what it was like in the past, /jp/ isn't what it used to be wrt visual novels, /vn/ over on /vg/ is all spam, the MG forum is dead, JAST is fairly inactive (last I checked), eroge forums are inactive, so I'm wondering the same thing. Compared with which similar forums? : S I was told a long time ago that the community was built around IRC, and now it appears similarly discord. Everybody's on discord so ... And also I don't think the forums are dead.
  4. Divinity OS are definitely the games to get if you want great combat. POE was more about stories, characters, and having a balanced role play system (#Sawyerism). Divinity tends to be more fun to play because of its exceptional gameplay, but I find Pillars has a better atmosphere because of the writing. They're pretty different, for sure
  5. I'm upgrading my computer so I can play this game in full screen on high without stuttering. Can't wait :3 6gb GTX 1060 ... overkill? It's probably overkill xD It's a tiny bit ridiculous to upgrade a computer for Eternity, and find you can now play the Witcher on it xD
  6. Welp, undoubtedly the best rpg of 2018 just dropped yesterday and it looks glorious. Unfortunately a bit busy to play it right now, so I'll just sit here and ... look at screenshots or somethin
  7. A while ago I thought I'd give Gintama a go, because it was supposed to be really funny and popular. I dropped it midway through the first episode. It just seemed really stupid to me. Just recently though, as the popularity of Gintama doesn't seem to be waning at all, I thought maybe it's me. Maybe I'm just being really uptight and anal about stuff. So I sent it to my sister saying "give this a try, it's supposed to be really good". If she says it's good I'll give it another go. I got a message back today. "This is, most likely, without a doubt, the worst show I've ever seen." "I know", I said. "I thought it was pretty terrible also." "Then why did you pass it on for me to try!" So yeah, now I can safely ignore Gintama without thinking I'm missing something special. Happy days!
  8. Voted for the Gakuen Heaven series. You're all welcome, no thanks necessary.
  9. As long as the DRM isn't intrusive I'm fine with it. Requiring the disc to be in the drive is an example of DRM but most people don't know this, CD keys is another example and most people don't mind the 7 seconds it takes to input the code. Always-Online or rootkit bullshit can go to hell, though.
  10. The US won't be the first to strike in the Korean peninsula for the simple reason that NK has 15000 pieces of artillery (rocket launchers, cannons) aimed right at Seoul (not all of which can reach but significant damage will still be sustained). Seoul is the hostage and the US can't make a move. It's a stalemate that has existed for a long time now.
  11. .hack//sign is still the only "trapped in a video game" show I've watched to the end. Has a bad rap, though. I would say I'm not a fan of the newer examples of the genre, but I haven't given Overlord a good go yet. It's buried somewhere on my "to read" list.
  12. I'm a big fan of isekai but there's an oversaturation at the moment. A lot of it is dodgy. Anyway this video is a good summary of the history of isekai and the future, and his conclusion is one I'm happy with -> that the anime industry is about to go full circle and isekai will soon morph into fantasy :3
  13. I'm patiently waiting for some GOOD "person gets sent to another world and there's quality world building and indepth characters, even some political bullshittery" anime to be released, because at the moment we've got a bunch of "person gets sent to superficial alternate worlds populated by superficial characters ... and there's a gimmick. Watch the show people we have a gimmick, everybody loves gimmicks right?" We've had in another world with time loops, we've had smartphones, we've had advanced knowledge about mechs, I wonder how long it'll take before they run out of ideas. Twelve Kingdoms did the genre well at a time when there weren't many of these sorts of shows being made. Nowadays there's tons of Isekai and many of them suck. Re;Zero doesn't suck though, it's just not that good
  14. Happy (late) birthday, @Down. Good luck with the science Happy (late) birthday to @Dergonu also, good luck with ... whatever it is you do And happy birthday to @Zalor and @Dreamysyu too!
  15. Ninja's by Plk_Lesiak. Yeah, for people actually trying to have a discussion only to have that discussion drowned out by those who are bored and want to just be disruptive, it's incredibly annoying. That's why there's a chatter forum made specifically to fuck around (go at it, not judging) in. But again like Plk_Lesiak said there's an element of mucking around in every discussion, and it's all about where the line is drawn. I'm very happy with where the mods currently have the line, to be honest
  16. The "care" thing? It's not so much an editing problem as it is a "english is different in different parts of the world" problem. Check out this video
  17. I actually rarely hear "care" used in this way. It should be "mind" if you want to be picky about it. The reply will usually be either "I don't mind" or "no". "Care" means something slightly different and I wouldn't use it in this context, but that's being incredibly picky about it. A quick search seems to indicate that using "care" in such a manner is a casual American thing. People should be aware though that to people unfamiliar to this sort of American slang that it comes off as harsh, abrupt, and possibly a bit rude: "I don't mind" means "I have no objection". "I don't care" means "the matter is of no concern to me." In certain circumstances, replacing "I don't mind" with "I don't care" can be aggressive and rude. Suppose a woman says to her husband John, Grandma is cold. Is it a problem if we turn up the heat? If he replies I don't mind It would mean that he has no objection to the heat of the room being increased. However, if he said I don't care, there are two possible meanings: 1)He is indifferent to what his wife does. She can do what she wants; he has no interest in it, and probably finds the question needlessly annoying, or 2) He is indifferent to the fact taht Grandma is uncomfortable. He would prefer that Grandma be cold than that he should be too warm, or spend extra money to heat the room further. From GreenWhiteBlue on the wordreference forums - https://forum.wordreference.com/threads/i-dont-mind-vs-i-dont-care.1215956/ That explanation sounds about right.
  18. One of the fun things about reading fiction is we get to "know" people with many different viewpoints. It has the benefit of increasing our understanding and our empathy. And for a long time this was just something said with nothing behind it, so it's good that studies are starting to observe the same thing, psychological study though, so take it with a grain of salt ohohoho : The study, conducted by Kingston University in London, found that readers were more likely to act in a socially acceptable manner compared to those who preferred watching television. Instead, TV lovers came across as less friendly and less understanding of others’ views. But, no ordinary book will do because it turns out the type of literature you choose also has a huge impact on your emotional intelligence. The study revealed that fiction fans showed more positive social behaviour while readers of drama and romance novels were found to be the most empathic. https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/people-who-read-books-are-nicer-kingston-university-study-fiction-a7721096.html So when fiction helps us delve into the minds of people who we don't usually associate with, that's an excellent result. That being said the writing becomes terrible when people with certain viewpoints get inserted into a novel for the sole purpose of being knocked down. Often their views are painted as superficial or wrong or backward, and the superior views win out easily. This sort of horrible writing is often called "stop pushing your bloody agenda" and tends to become annoying (depending on your viewpoint obviously). That being said, a right wing nationalist protagonist who likes to scream "sieg heil Zaalrant"? I expect either sillyness or some kind of agenda pushing from that. But you've convinced me to give it a whirl
  19. 2) Study ancient salt statues 3) Encourage everyone to be salty about salt statues 4) Get class to make new statues from all the salt produced 5) Sell statues for $$$ and keep all money for yourself 6) Get accused of "exploitation of labour" 7) Receive incredibly unfair trial 8 ) Get sentenced to life in prison 9) Write salty memoirs
  20. As someone who's a big fan of healing slice of life (Iyashikei), I really don't like it. Ever since K-On, the focus on "cute girls doing cute things" often takes away from world building and character building and leaves a shallow shell of a show. So there's been this sudden explosion of healing slice of life, but most of it is moe crap. The best piece of Iyashikei I've come across is Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou and that was definitely not moe.
  21. Heh ... ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Does anyone here wistfully look back at the conversations they enjoyed while waiting for trains to pass and think "I'm having so much fun right now I wish I could stay in this moment forever"? Well apparently you're not the only weirdo living among us because Fumikiri Jikan airs on the 10th. Based on the not very popular at all manga, this anime will showcase the boring conversations young women have as they wait at railroad crossings (because the "conversations" young men have usually involves a mean prank quickly followed by the terrified screams of the pranker as he gets hurled into the path of the train). But seriously I'm a little curious. A boring premise doesn't always mean a boring show, and it'll be interesting to see how they handle it.
