  1. Fiddling lewdly with the school roof, they managed to coax out an antenna which they then began to abuse. Much later they would also use this antenna to send out radio broadcasts ... of a questionable nature. I like this description better
  2. The sad thing about it is it can be fixed by like ... inserting 2 words and joining a sentence together. A 2 second proofread could have saved much mockery and laughter: The school club the protagonist and friends belong to. Working mainly on the school roof, they assembled an antenna etc etc
  3. Was that the year Bats reviewed Little Busters? Because it definitely was an important moment for the forums
  4. Anything before 2000 is old for me. I actually prefer the art style from back then and I don't know why. I get warm fuzzies every time I see art like this:
  5. Before the topic can be addressed the first thing that needs to be done is define "high art". Half the problem is there's like 50 different definitions of "high art" out there which contributes to the disagreement between people over what is, and what isn't, high art. Some people have said high art appeals to the emotions, others say high art is educational and makes you think. When talking about visual art, according to Michael Delahunt's "art dictionary"[1], high art "consists of the meticulous expression in fine materials of refined or noble sentiment, appreciation of the former depending on such things as intelligence, social standing, educated taste, and a willingness to be challenged" which is ... gobbledygook, let's be frank [1] https://books.google.com.au/books/about/ArtLex.html?id=EJcUvgAACAAJ&redir_esc=y
  6. Lol, like I said they all sound like kids. Even the mods.
  7. So Divinity OS 2 was voted best RPG of 2017 by the only RPG nerds that matter some random weirdos on the internet. Anybody who hasn't given it a go probably should, best game from 2017 for me :3 Currently playing Trails of Cold Steel. Lots of fun. Dropped Berseria because while the story was excellent ... the RPG gameplay wasn't.
  8. Yeah, professional Japanese voice actors/actresses are expensive. Especially if they're approaching well known anime seiyuu.
  9. I didn't notice you'd left 0.0 Huh ... y'learn something new every day
  10. Welcome back Ren, good to see you're doing okay. Your second choice of avatar is much better than the first, because she had a really hideous hat ... thing.
  11. Welcome back, Bats. I wanted to hand you a stack of pancakes as a "welcome back" thing ... but some fiend ate them all C'est la vie, I guess.
  12. I hate its structure because it's upvote, downvote thing promotes a circle jerk community. When people have the ability to downvote an opinion out of sight I immediately become suspicious xD EDIT:Well, that and I find its threaded nature difficult to hold a sustained discussion on. Might just be me, though.
  13. Nah, Ren loved doing stuff for the community but I think he just bit off more than he could chew with that project and didn't want to disappoint people. Community response was a bit over the top though, I agree
  14. Hope you're doing better and looking after yourself Caught that bit of drama, and I thought they handled that extremely poorly and with an immature spirit. Not surprising because whenever I went over to the reddit community I honestly felt like I was surrounded by a bunch of kids. I mean, I touched on the visual novel community being young in another topic, but I genuinely felt it even more on Reddit to the point where I felt uncomfortable being there. It's kinda creepy for a grown man to be hanging around people that sound like they're in high school. So the immaturity of their response wasn't surprising.
  15. It should be noted that to have a slow build up, the story needs to be consistently ... well, built up. Stories that dick around for 30 hours can be fun, but it's hard to describe that as "building the story". Usually I do enjoy a slow build up, where the world is gradually peeled back or new facets and skills of the characters slowly revealed that sort of thing. But only if the scenes had purpose and weren't just "hijinks".
  16. K The fanbase is very young, Fuwanovel, Reddit, and Lemma have all done surveys where the average age of the community is 21ish. Compare this to the average age of a video gamer who's easily in their 30s. There are certain side effects to this dominance of youth, imo.
  17. All the time, which is when I cycle mediums. So I'd go through a phase where there seems to be so many great VNs out there ... until there isn't, at which point no matter what I pick up it's a one-way trip to Grand Disappointment Central. So I'll head to books, and wow look at all the great books released during my VN phase, but after a while I'll burn through those as well. Then I'll head to games and man, I can't believe I missed out on Trails of Cold Steel. Then when I burn out on games I head to anime and manga. Light Novels. Western and Asian TV series. Then I'll come back to VNs and look at that! Tokyo Babel has been released, and what a great translation too! I'll just gobble that up ... VNs are just a medium for storytelling, and there's plenty of mediums out there. There's always something out there in some form that'll entertain
  18. That and the word "theme" which was then clarified later on to reference to homosexual characters. Classifying homosexuality as a degenerate theme is most definitely an unfortunate choice of words
  19. Your casual linking of homosexuality to degeneracy is not welcome on the forums. Either you were memeing like Kaguya says, or you were serious and broke rule 6 of the Fuwa guidelines. Kaguya's being nice and giving you the benefit of the doubt, I however don't and think the forums can cut you and not lose a second of sleep over it. Lucky for you I'm not a mod.
  20. Solidbatman and Original Ren used to hold contests semi regularly[1] so you shouldn't have a problem. The issue tends to be participation - can you get enough people to participate to make it interesting? [1]
  21. Would love to see the second translated at some point Pretty big fan of the first
  22. Considering the average professionally made porn movie only costs about 20,000 to 30,000 to make (the really high quality stuff is anything over 100,000 and Pirates 2 stagnetti revenge is probably the highest budgeted porn movie of all time at 8 million), VNs aren't that cheaply made
  23. I follow a slightly different variation of that which is "scenes should move the story forward" but it's essentially the same thing. I agree 100%
