  1. Forever means all the time, even when you don't play. This is how it is supposed to be if you want to read VNs. As long as you don't use any other non-unicode software, there shouldn't be any problems (and if you do use such software, consider finding better alternative for it). Of course you can [turn it on - reboot - play - turn it off - reboot] every time, that's up to you. But THIS is the brutal way, IMHO, not the way I proposed ^__^ Also note that some VNs require more than just changing locale, but date and time representation too. Get used to it. By the way, in theory this issue also may appear because you didn't cracked these VNs properly or because the patches for them are crap (plus I don't think there are completed patches for any of these VNs yet). But seeing that you have the same problem with 3 of them, this have to be locale issue.
  2. 1. never copy-past stuff from iso's, install it properly. Unless you definitely know how things work and what to do. But that's not the case here. 2. Uninstall everything, manually remove any leftovers (if there are any), set your locale to Japanese before you install anything and keep it this way forever! Don't forget to reboot. Turning it off will give you this message again, obviously. Applocale is shit, don't use it. Especialy if youre on windows newer than XP.
  3. You shouldn't be running VNs on MAC. If you don't have any PCs around, what you should try is a VirtualBox with 32bit winXP or win7 on it. I can't guarantee that it'll work though. Things that require full direct3d support may fail. Rewrite might be one of them. As a last resort you may try Wine... but that can be tricky to even install. You might even need to compile it yourself first.
  4. I voted for the 1st option but... I consider that I finished a vn when I saw all the CGs, heard all the music, saw all endings (including hidden ones that may require some effort to encounter them), found and read all the tips (if there are any) etc. Many VNs have their own "completeness meter". In this case it have to be 100%. However it does not mean that I've read all the text and made all the choices possible. There can be choices that, aside from altering a few text lines, do nothing. Or even choices that are totally pointless. So keeping track of them is just too hard.
  5. Not sure what's this all about but the latest official patch should have these translated without any additional steps needed from the user.
  6. Well, Zaka and GetterEmperor are right. Judging from these screenshots the problem is with codecs. Plus this is exactly the place where 1st opening should start. So uininstall all codec packs you might have and install latest stable LAV filters. But... it can be a bug too. In this case you won't be able to fix it yourself. Btw, this issue can be due to you using some opening patch. Last time I chekcked another one (not mine) - it was a total crap. I almost vomited from that disgusting distorted low-res wmv. Only "made in moviemaker" note is missing. (Though don't take this as a recommendation for using my version, it probably won't work unless you're ok with reading Japanese unpatched FSN and still requires LAV filters)
  7. Yes, Never7 doesn't work under VirtualBox. It requires you to have real discrete videocard. Virtualbox's poor Direct3D support seem to be not enough. Any official Never7 release also doesn't works correctly on any windows newer than XP, even with real hardware, which also results in black screens. But in this case people usually can make it work. If the screen is completely black and always like that - you probably have no chances. If it only partially black or at some point you can see some of the main menu graphics, even if for a short time, fiddling with video options and switching fullscreen-windowed may result in something. If you're on mac you may want to try some other virtual machine that has better direct3d support. (I dunno if such thing exists)
  8. What do you mean by "common issues"? So far everything that was discussed in this thread is not an issue, it's "I have no clue what I'm doing and provided instructions is a misleading" As for Alternative... do you even understand why you need daemon tools and what it does? Obviously any game or program that you download in a form of disc images needs some software to properly deal with them. Is Daemon tools required? - no, if you're experienced and know possible problems and solutions. Is this a proper way to do it? - yes Can I use other software to mount images? Not Daemon tools? - yes Of course there may be common issues other than that, read the readme to find out.
  9. You don't need to use trial version... there are free version called "daemon tools lite" and a paid one that has additional features. For this purpose it doesn't matter which one you use, but if you go for paid one - you have to get cracked version from torrents, not the trial. "2) Run this Installer" is the actual English patch. I'm not sure if that's the latest one or not. If you did downloaded English patch yourself and read the readme that comes with it - yes delete this file. Otherwise this file is what you would want to install.
  10. Which version of daemon tools? You should always use latest one, including the sptd driver. If you mean free or paid one - doesn't matter.
  11. If it wasn't patched correctly, it is not possible that only opening won't show. There will be more obvious problems right away. Readonly can't cause this issue either. Most likely he expects to see the opening somewhere at the beginning, but you see it 1st time somewhere closer to the end of the common route.
  12. Nah, the release itself, the files in it, are fine of course (aside from daemon tools). The way it is done is not fine. There are no instructions that explain how to properly install everything, what choices user have, what can or can not be done. People should read official install instructions if they exist. And they do in this case. Even in case when there is no official readme, instructions you see in this release is a bullshit. Also, Life, please don't make users go to the device management and update drivers. While I agree that users should learn how to do stuff on their own, making them do it like this going way too far. They may actually break something. In fact, it is very rare that you need to update the drivers from there, regardless of the software in question.
  13. @ whoever created this release Holy shit... fuwa releases now ship daemnon tools too? Are you completely nuts guys? Its funny that you're trying to accomodate to every idiot out there, but yourself have no clue about what you doing. These releases should be labeled "creaded for noobs, by noobs". People need to learn how to do stuff properly and not be fed from the spoon. Zodai The release you have is a total crap. 0) delete everything except the files that start with MUVLUV_ 1) download latest version of the Daemon tools lite from the official source, install as it should be (uncheck all the extra programs they propose you to install), reboot your pc Alternatively download paid cracked Daemon tools from torrents and install that. You can use cracked Alcohol120% too. There are many more siumilar software to mount images. Use the one that you like more. 2) Download the official English patch from the official source, read the official readme, especially the "install instructions" sections. Mounting images with Daemon tools or similar is what you should be doing most of the time when you're going to install and read some VN. Learn it once, use it all the time. Stay away from fuwa releases.
  14. First, if you can play something in media player, this doesn't means anything. Second, you're not supposed to see the opening until about halfway into the story. Third, if you absolutely sure that you're missing opening where it's supposed to be - look into fixing your directshow payback chain.
  15. If you want to run VNs on Mac - use virtual machine with windows on it. There is no better way. Otherwise you will get what you have now - all the time something won't work as it should.
  16. Are you saying this happens with 85% patch only without any additional patches? If so this is too bad. Yes, the issue is with the patch, whatever the patch is, and you can't prevent it by yourself. Try to make sure that you used latest version, which is 85.2% patch and try to put that patch2 (the one you posted above) on top just to see if you can go past this scene with it.
  17. Damn. this thread is too hard to stomach. I see people started to make some weird arguments about alleges vs. 18+ Fuwa is a pirating website. If you don't agree with that - you're blind, If you don't like that - you probably came to the wrong place. There are more things that Fuwa aimed to do, more than general pirating sites. But none of this would be possible without being a pirating website. The question about removing or keeping is simple. Everything should be kept as long as it is related to the subject (visual novels) and does not produces a direct threat for the website (in other words can't result in a shutdown) Posting a direct link to some official release on the main website page is of course may be too risky (knowing that website server is located in US). But taking down some torrents or other means of downloads (like links to some rapidshare-like stuff, if they exist) doesn't makes sense.
  18. Eh? Responsibility? Job? I don't think any of these terms can be applied to sites like Fuwa. Fuwa is a "for people, by people" kind of site (at least this is what I think it is). Having some VN sold officially in US does not equals to "yep, its now available!". Pretty sure for many-many people this "availability" changes nothing. Yes it's not Fuwanovel's job to provide every single Visual Novel for free to the west. But if there are people who can provide, and not necessarily every single, but this or that one - why stop them? And wanted Aaeru that or not - hard to say. But pretty sure she wasn't against it. Edit: Also in terms of Japanese media (not only VN's) "west" doesn't means US it means everything except Japan. Edit: oh, while I'm at it. I don't mind Fuwa releases to be removed. (I'm a prepatched release hater after all ). But It kinda hurts to see that people who are satisfied with that official release (and can afford it) are trying to take away stuff from everyone else. Also it doesn't makes sense to remove torrents. Removing the info from the main page (moving the info to the forum?) but keeping torrents makes more sense. Fuwa was never against sharing even already released official translations. Its just having them on the main page is problematic. But now you're talking about removing even fanmade ones...
  19. I'm not a fuwanovel fan and I really hate the way some things are done (like prepatched releases) but mentioned "three main objectives" are something that I respect. Or actually 2nd and 3rd. Cause I think I have a bit different understanding of 1st objective. To me "popular" does not mean "make some companies earn more money" but rather public opinion about the medium in general. I hate all these companies who take fan TL and try to sell it and couldn't care less if they'll go bankrupt. Edit: also if I will be able to crack the encryption, I will release that Planetarian translation on PC faster than they'll do it on steam. BTW if anyone is willing to help me with that - please PM
  20. Don't know how should I answer that in a way that won't turn this thread in a pile of offopic and without writing a few walls of text (and I don't feel like doing this). So in short... no, I don't agree.
  21. I m not happy with having more VNs over here. Especially in a way Sekai project does it.
  22. Some of my random thoughts: Sekai project is shit, always knew that (and Steam is heresy) But in this case, as I understand, we might get a version that has some additional scenes (maybe not, but there is a chance!). Since there is no way to hack PS Vita, it might be possible to take new CGs from that version. In this case it might not be that bad.
  23. So why did you cut H-scenes? I don't understand the reason.
