  1. Aw, come on! Snow is the best fanfic mashup of Kanon and Air ever made. It also spawned a surprisingly decent nukige centered on Meiko. I also liked Kokoro Navi. Giniro was excellent, and so was Memories Off (1999). No kidding. The 2000-2001 years had some amazing stuff: Tsukihime and Kagetsu Tooya, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, Suika, Giniro, Triangle Hearts 3, Jisatsu no Tame no 101 no Houhou, Canvas... But 2004-2009? That's the Golden Years; making that comparison isn't exactly fair. Fate Stay/Night, Clannad, Higurashi and Umineko, Dies Irae, Symphonic Rain, Planetarian, Muv-Luv Alternative, Aselia, Rui wa Tomo wo Yobu, Chocolat and Parfait, Haruka ni Aogi, Uruwashi no, Majiprui and Akiiro Renka and Ashita no Kimi to Au Tame ni, DraKoi, Princess Witches... and that's just what I see on my shelves from here.
  2. I'll go ahead and link the "Time Loop" VNDB tag. I'll also recommend the top title on that list: 3days ~満ちてゆく刻の彼方で~ You can also try Anonono. ~Kimi to Sugoshita Ano Hi Ano Toki Ano Mirai~ for a slightly different variety of time loop game...
  3. Yeah, I misinterpreted the document - I thought it was a publication of Lass' debts, rather than just a summarized list of companies. Which is sad; the other way was at least something humorous out of the situation. Still, 168 million in debt, with assets of 3 million? Yeah, that's... a good time to initiate bankruptcy proceedings.
  4. Alas! They will be missed. Actually, I'm not sure they will be. 3days was pretty good. Festa! was meh at best, and 11eyes was only slightly better. In fact, looking at their product list, everything they've done since 2008 has been pretty crappy, hasn't it? Bad games, half-assed incomplete ones, trend-chasing garbage... Nope, maybe they're better off gone. It's just a list of companies they owe money to. Nothing really interesting, although I am curious as to how they ended up owing 180 million Yen to a Ramen shop...
  5. Yeah, I never understood why a game named after Rui had Akaneko as the romance in the True route. In fact, I don't understand why they had any romance in the True route - it certainly didn't need it. As for the fandisk, well... The RuiTomo fandisk is fun, at least. You might say it's more of the same, for the most part, but you do get to see more of some of the other characters. There's a slice-of-life mystery story involving the main cast that's just an extended excuse to see more of the characters being themselves. There're the sub-character routes (Yenfei, Megymu, and Miyawa). There's also the obligatory "Excuse for H-scenes with the main cast" story, which actually has real, canon, backstory and character development of a sadly neglected character in it. I think it's worth it, but I'm a huge fan of the game in general. It sounds like you enjoyed the main game, so I expect you'll enjoy the fandisk - but there is nothing amazing about it.
  6. You're in for some good stuff. The True route is awesome... and Yenfei's route in the FD is good, too (although I may be biased there).
  7. Don't be; the anime is a fairly accurate representation of the game. It has little to no story, the 'characters' are actually just caricatures, and only the art and voice acting redeem the product at all. Choosing a different Liquid game, or sticking with Clockup, or trying Cyc, would have been better.
  8. Yes! Man, I love that game. It's a wonderful way to present the story... a series of "What if?" type branches, showing how decisions can have long term effects, spread out over 10-15 years of the main character's life. I'm glad to see someone else read and enjoy Setsuei. In my opinion, it's been sadly neglected. Even though it got good reviews, most people still ignored it (both East and West).
  9. Akeiro definitely deserved better, but at least it was up there. It also took 3rd in the Scenario ranking, so it got some recognition...
  10. Meh. I wanted to like the game, and liked Main Girl, but after suffering through the common route and 1.5 character routes, I just couldn't bring myself to do the rest to unlock her route and finish the game. I think there are plenty of other games that should be prioritized.
  11. From my view, a better question might be: What does this site add that Omochikaeri or VNDB don't provide? Also that's a lot of data to keep up with. It currently lists 40 January releases, which is about 2/3 of the major brand releases for the month (according to DependSpace, HolySeal, and EroGameScape). If the site is going to keep providing all that info (even English descriptions of 50% of the games!) then I see there is something of value. But that's a LOT of work and keeping it up is not going to be easy. I guess what I'm saying is, would all this effort be better spent providing more and better updates to VNDB or other, pre-existing, VN focused websites?
  12. Actually, this is how Japanese companies, anime or VN, have always behaved. Massively overpriced products with some extras thrown in, like a $0.15 CD of the music or a $0.50 16 page artbook, in an attempt to justify to price. It's so common, that's it's a really old joke that the more extra stuff a company puts into the release, the worse the game itself is going to be. To a certain extent, the fact that Kickstarter allows them to spell out what you get in tiers and Stretch Goals is nice, because it makes it more obvious and straightforward.
  13. No kidding. Abandon all hope, for humanity has surrendered to the anime not-even-porn catgirls. $400,000 dollars. In three days. For a now 50 minute all-ages OVA. It's a good thing they put a limit on the OVA length, or God knows how long it'd end up being. Meanwhile, Dies Irae might not even get funded at all...
  14. Came here to say this, and thrilled to see someone beat me to it. Cordwainer Smith's Underpeople (including catpeople!) date back to the 50s and have some very interesting perspectives on how the different races interact. Also, very good stories in general, and more people should read them, just because. Otherwise, I think Clephas has pretty much covered it - Catgirls are normally just dropped in, but when given a reason, it's usually some variety of the nukige stereotype you see in NekoPara. As with all Japanese moe stereotypes, don't try to think about them; it'll just hurt your brain.
  15. It looks like it. Their website says "Final Project", the release event is the "Final Event". I can't find an announcement in their news section, but since it's listed as such on their main website... Bye, bye, Sumikko - It's been a fun, silly (and ecchi) few years.
  16. If you are looking for free shit, have you tried this website?
  17. Despite the presentation, I can't agree with this enough. If you don't already own Planetarian, you should buy it. Buy it now.
  18. Classic, enduring hatred: Pia Carrot 2. A stats based sim game where you don't know which stats matter, or how much for each character, plus choices with consequences that don't show up until much later. Combine that with a main heroine whose route involves choosing other heroines, getting 'bad' events with her (avoid them, and you'll get a bad end), and ending with a totally counterintuitive trick choice? Constant failure without a hint as to why. Eff you, Azusa. Just - No.
  19. If it's the section I'm thinking of, you want: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Down (B), Up (A). This code may seem familiar to you...
  20. Yeah, it's not like they're acting like Circus. How many Da Capo line products are there?
  21. O Brave Adventurer, we thank you for your sacrifice! It doesn't surprise me to find the cutting is awkward, but it does surprise me that non H-related scenes were abbreviated. I mean, there's not exactly much left without the H scenes, so cutting acceptable material should have been the last thing on their list. I'm curious to hear about what they do with the swimming and festival scenes, though.
  22. I was shocked when this popped up in my queue today. A Norn game on Steam? Norn games a short, low-priced nukige - straight up porn fests. Most are 3-4 hours long INCLUDING the reading all the H-scenes and costume variant scenes. Most also have 15-20 H scenes. Norn and the dark-side sister company Miel have a small stable of artists and VAs and churn out games, one every few months. They're the 18+ version of Winged Cloud or Dharker. But... all ages? What's going to be left? 1 hour of slice-of-life stuff? The other surprising thing is that the Japanese version had it's digital release, what, 6 weeks ago? It's still a recent release in Japan, and it's already in English on Steam. If the translation is actually decent, then they could make a pretty good amount of money releasing quick and often in English. Especially if there was an 18+ patch... for DLC maybe (flame ON!)? BTW - current retail is still $32 for the Japanese version. $9 full, $8 sale, on Steam all-ages.
  23. Well, depending on the Debonosu game in question, there may be several times more content in the H-scenes than in the rest of the game. Looking at you, Kagura series.
  24. I don't own the English version of IMHHW, and I don't own Eden* at all - so I can't use your comparison, sorry. However, in KonoSora's original release, the presence of sex and sexual relationships is rather significant, to the characters and the story. From what I've heard, they did a very poor job in removing it, which would qualify as "butchering", I guess. Certainly there are games, like December without an Angel (Tenshi no Inai Juuni-getsu), that simply cannot exist without their sexual content. If you wanted to try, you'd have to rewrite a lot of content very carefully. It could be done... but I seriously doubt any localization team would have the skills needed.
