  1. Yeah... looks like that's my patcher's fault. Sorry~! We didn't test anything past the Prologue. Thanks for pointing this out though! It'll be fixed in our full patch - whenever that may be.
  2. Well, this gives me some more ideas of sanity checks that can be automated by our script patcher as well as bugs in the patcher =) The more eyes the better! Hopefully we won't encounter the same bugs when we get to our final patch! ... now... time to get back to translating common...
  3. Don't worry though, we still have patcher support internally. I've coded and tested text and image patching tools already. We appreciate the help ReTrans has given us, but sometimes, it's just faster to have development done internally (turnaround times and whatnot).
  4. Admittedly, we rushed our announcement and content wasn't adjusted for these forums. This post is slightly redacted to stay as objective as possible. To keep this thread clean, any drama discourse can be had at our website! tl;dr version: In light of recent events, and after much internal debate, we are pulling Joshyan from further contributions to the project. Know that we are taking many steps to ensure minimal degradation in quality with Joshyan's translations. We have had two translators, myself included, do a TLC pass over his work in the prologue. That is two translation checks plus editor and quality checks to come. We plan on doing this for his other contributions as well. We cannot promise that our final product will be without awkward diction - this is, after all, just a fan translation, done with volunteer hours of our lives. We can only attempt to reassure everyone that we do care about the quality of our final product because it is a reflection of our own abilities. There will always be sour apples, but we’d like to continue to thank everyone who supports us. This includes Joshyan, who has dedicated countless hours to this project. We respect this; but at the same time we must respect the readers by not compromising so much on quality. Please look forward to our prologue patch, and hopefully it’ll still retain your interest in the project!
  5. This is what happens when your least adequate translator on the team is the loudest on the forums. People can easily pick juicy quotes to justify their claims. (Not to say that the claims aren't entirely correct though.) Unfortunately, now that some people are in the mindset that our entire project is machine translated, it'll be hard to convince them that most of it is *not* machine translated. It hurts the pride of the rest of the translators to know that some people think our actual translations are machine translated. My word might mean nothing at all (because I'm including myself), but I'll vouch that the three other translators are good. Dictionaries are not machine TL. Google Translate is machine TL. ATLAS is machine TL. But, there is a distinction. If you're using only a dictionary, looking up words, and trying to fabricate the grammar yourself, that's easily just as bad or worse than an actual machine translator. What actually kind of irks me off is the fact that the tag is Bad/Machine Translation. Saying that it's bad before any public samples are out is pretty presumptuous. Also, if they had the time to update the tag, at least update the staff too. It's super old. /rant
  6. On the topic of the patcher [12:47] <ACF> It's your love child, so you should get on the forums and post some stuff Yeah, my christmas break love child. Made some more changes - I had neglected to expand the .b aggregates. But now that it's all well and done. I *think* I've finished the minimum necessary set of features for our patcher only convenience features are left Test of the .b aggregate repacking: Also a test of patching UI raw text elements. Now... back to translating main route...
  7. We're aiming to get a partial patch for just Prologue to tide y'all over until the rest of the routes get finished. You can blame the slow progress on me I jumped over to do the final TLC pass on Prologue (it needs the help). I wish I was going faster, but laziness gets the better of me most of the time when TLCing. I'll jump back to translating common after finishing this. (translating is so much more fun) The hope is that, by the time partial patch is released and getting publicly flamed, we'll have finished TL on the remainder of the routes and a full patch can be released shortly after editing and QC. Oh I don't think I introduced myself on this thread yet. I'm one of the TLs on the team. (and head of TLs of sorts... maybe). For some reason, I started on Touko route... maybe it should have been Common... oh well
  8. I've done most of the translations within the last ~ylear for Black Rock Scans (minus Anikoi and FukuNeko). I'd probably pick Imawa no Kuni no Arisu, Kiba no Tabishounin, and Yuuyake Rocket Pencil as my favorites. Haha, I'd be happy to answer simple questions! (I've still got a long way to go myself )
  9. 1) Handle: nfinite 2) Positions: TL, TLC 3) Preferences: Comedy Dark but not cruel Intellectual Preferably less technical (which kind of goes against intellectual); I'm not averse to it, but know that it will slow down progress. 4) Availability: Booked 4b) Current Project: Koiken Otome 5) VNs most interested in producing an ftl for: New to the scene, so I'm still scoping things out 6) Motivation: I enjoy TLing and the fact that it makes content, otherwise inaccessible, accessible. Feels good to know someone can take advantage of something I've contributed to. 7) Conditions: No BL, Yaoi Miscellaneous Inexperienced in the VN FTL scene, so you'll have to get me up to speed. That being said, I'm relatively tech-oriented, so it probably wouldn't take long. I don't know my pace yet, but let's err on the slow side While not a perfectionist, it does bother me when huge glaring obvious mistakes make it past multiple QA stages. The little stuff is understandable. So, I'd prefer working with a like-minded team. Strong English, Okay Japanese (N2ish) and still studying/improving
  10. Ah, that's a good point... Man.. the last emulator I used was ZSNES... a long time ago. Hopefully I'll be on the good side of the spectrum
  11. Thanks for the welcomes everyone =) I'm thinking of lurking just a tad longer to get a feel for things (or that's just my excuse for being tentative) before diving in Now I'm kind of nervous after hearing that I suppose it's a lot more text than I'm used to for one project... That does sound interesting; just wish I had a PSP
  12. nfinite joins the fray! Hello FuwaNovellers, I've been lurking for a couple of days now and finally decided to register. My journey in Japanese media started with Gundam Wing back in the Toonami days and it only got better from there. =) I've played a number of VNs, but I can't say that I'm well versed in them at all. I think my first one was Yume Miru Kusuri - I liked that it was overall a cathartic story, but quite dark and heavy in the middle. Anywho, the main reason I stumbled upon this community was because I'm considering contributing to FTL. I'm involved in some manga JP-EN translation, but the release pace is a bit slow, so I'm looking for other things to keep that portion of my brain going. Since I'm not very familiar with recent VNs, I'm still scouting out what projects look interesting. Looking forward to making some new friends =) どうぞよろしく!
