Gatchaman is taking me home, I love its pseudo-action and its pseudo-intellectuality. Other than Gatcha, my other favorites are Gate and Non Non Biyori. I like Ranpo Kitan's art direction, but the anime itself is all over the place- which I think makes the art direction all the better.

Well, not saying the anime is any better than average, but it did develop the main character and hint what the plot is going for; did it need all 6 episodes to accomplish it? No, but many other Key works waited ages before stopping beating around the bushes, wasn't everyone watching this already aware of it.

I heard Maeda said the story will pick up speed at episode 6, so... Gatchaman is my favorite of the season, pretty neat stuff; I wish Inami would drop dead, Gakkou Gurashi is losing impact and I long for Non Non Biyori's episodes (NNB may be my favorite instead of Gatchaman, now that I think of it).

The artist handles from character design, to lighting and shadowing, but as Nosy said, drawing is their job, perhaps you would have fun watching speedpainting videos in youtube. Also, you should go watch Shirobako right this instant, like, seriously. In eroge, I am more likely to remember the illustrator's name than any other staff name. EDIT: Artist have or should know basics of human anatomy, (preferably) architecture and of course the right use of the software at their disposal, but the hardest part of doing artwork is neither of these, but having a hang for perspective (well, at least that's what I find the hardest)
