  1. Nicknames are good depending on your relationship and the nickname, for example if your friends gives you a nickname that's an insulting word or you find offensive than it might just be for fun and you have a equal insulting nickname for your friend, however if a person you only have spoken to at school/work and you don't consider eachother friends but he gives you a offensive nickname than it comes close to bullying. Me personally likes getting and giving nicknames to and fro friends because it makes you closer, or if your name is hard to pronounce it makes it easier, my international online friends for example that ive known for 3-5 years calls me Josh since my norwegian name is hard to pronounce for them, or it just sounds weird and akward in their accent.
  2. Depending on the friend, if hes a anime fan or not etc, if it's a person that enjoys anime than i'd pick a anime that's maybe disliked or alot like that VN than i'd point out that all anime is not like that, maybe i'd do the same using a tv show as an example. If it's a friend new to this kind of entertainment than i'd just try my best to explain that all VN is not like that and fish up a VN that I believe he would like out of his tastes and personality and i'd tell him to give it a try if he wants to, if he doesn't want to or he still dislikes it than I'd give up because VN is not for everyone, just like reading normal books is not for everyone.
  3. I think it's dependent on the person, me myself is a hopeless romantic and I love the romantic problems(That really makes it look like i'm lyin about being a hopeless romantic xd) as long as they get back together, but I think, if you want to hit the largest amount of people than i'd say life changing events would probably be the best choice. Ah yeah, it also depends on wether or not the person gets into the characters, heroine and protagnoists alike, if they don't then emotional scenes might not be as important for them as it would for others.
  4. I think it's fine in 2d, I honestly think most things in 2d is fine, it's just fantasy where people should be allowed to immerse themselves in the fantasies. In 3d personally, when it comes to morals, I myself don't really care, aslong as it's consensual than it's not up to me to judge. However in 3d society, (I'm talking about scandinavia and Norway mainly now) it's illegal and thought of as immoral, morals in society however is just made out of what the people on top and the majority of people thinks, and most people like to think themselves as correct or just follow what other people think, I find that aslong as it does not cause a problem for another person, a unborn infant or the people doing incest themselves, which means consensual and taking use of means to not get someone pregnant. Me personally would never have sex with a family member even if they put themselves out, though i must admit when it comes to 2d I can find incest arousing aslong as it's not father/daughter or uncle incest where the female is quite young because it doesn't fit the image ive made myself of how a grown male figure should be, though I don't judge people that do find it arousing. I believe you should be able to have a relationship based on lust if you want to, but as humans are it may cause one part to fall in love with the other and the other person doesn't, it's like friends with benefits, it sounds like a good idea but one side can get hurt quite fast. though it may be the other way around, that both parts finds love and they end up togeather and married. My opinion may be biased though because of how pure I am and the fact that I want a soulmate and I find that cheating is, sorry if i'm rude, despicable, though nothing wrong with in 2d. I'm gonna give my answer on this question for when I think it's appropiate to have sex since I don't think it should differ wether it's a sibling on not when it comes to age. This will differ on the person, some people can make the right choice early whilst others can't, it comes down to the person and how they were raised aswell as the enviroment, but if i'd put a general age group i'd go with the legal age group for consensual sex in Norway, 16, cause this is a age where you can be old enough to not make a wrong decision (People at every age can make wrong decisions) though I believe that means of pregnant prevention should be, not enforced, but highly encouraged.
  5. Hello, i'm not sure what your take is on repeating a question or if this question has been repeated or not, I didn't find it when I did a quick search atleast. I'm just wondering if you most of you make use of the walkthroughs even if it's not needed like when there's a strongly recommended routes? I use walkthroughs personally, just because of 2 aspects, the first being that I find it to be hard to choose a girl, like I can be torn between 2 or sometimes even more girls to which one I should choose first so if I don't use walkthroughs that I'll just play through and get whatever girl I get which may make it harder to get close to the girl, and on some VNs I might end up with the same girl twice because she's the heroine that's left in the back, or i'll end up on harem route even though i prefer leaving them for last. The other problem is that I'm a feminist and I can't leave girls in distress or be rude to girls in these games even though they are just fictional characters, so usually end up helping/agreeing/being nice to every girl along the way which can leave me at the same places as mentioned on the first one unless I know for a fact that it's a flag I can't take that is. I'll repeat my question for those who wanna answer my curiosity ^^, do you use walkthroughs and if you wanna elaborate, why?
  6. Ill state my opinion on a way to introduce people that's entierly new to this japanese entertainment world, which means they haven't interacted with anime, manga, hentai or VN before, I'm gonna stick with english words to describe genres etc. to help newcomers and make it easier to explain to people that isn't used to this world. What games do you recommend every newcomer checks out when it comes to playing visual novels? Which VNs do you think they should avoid? It's all about taste when it comes down to it, if you like action, sci-fi, drama, romance etc, sex scenes may be a aspect aswell, for people that is entierly new to japanese entertainment and enjoys drama, romance and tearjerkers i'd recammend the two VNs that introduced me into VN and anime alike, Clannad and Katawa shoujo, they are both simple to read, they have little to no sex scenes that may scare newcomers away. I believe that it's easy to get into and katawa shoujo aspecially because it's probably alot easier for westerners (I think... It's been a while since ive read it). If you or the person you are introducing VNs to is more into sci-fi, action and/or thriller i'd recommend Steins:Gate & Fate/Stay Night, I haven't read those to personally yet, but they have little to no sex scenes and they are both made into anime that should be decent or good, i think it'd be easier to get into for people that prefer this genre of entertainment and is completely new. The biggest problems with my recommendations are that they might be too long for a newcomer. I, personally have always prefered longer VNs to get more in touch with the characters but this might not be for everyone so a shorter VN might be better. I haven't really read alot of short ones so I find it a little hard to recommend one, but if someone asked me right now i'd say Ripples, it's extremely short and it's westernized, not a bad VN, but i'd say it's too short and too westernized to get properly introduced to japanese entertainment. Other than that maybe planeterian, I haven't read that one, yet, either but it's a KEY production so it's probably not bad. And on a side note, i'd say that you probably want to stay cleer of VNs that has excessive h-scenes even if he asks for it, and aspecially VNs that has rape, loli, futa and other fetishes that can be considered extreme or wrong, tho they are mostly only on nukige there may be some non nukige with that that kind of things, i know of a few with rape. How important do you feel comedy is when introducing newcomers to a VN? How important are emotional situations?I'm not sure if comedy is important or not tbh, because japanese humour and western humour isn't allways the same, that's not to say that westerners can't laugh of the japanese jokes and vice versa. I think this will mostly depend on the person, if the person enjoys humour than it's important, but if he prefers thrillers, etc. than it might not be too important. I think introducing them to emotional situations might be one of the best factors to get newcomers to stay, ofc it depends on tastes but i'd say most people would end up in a love/hate relationship with VNs like me, or they would love it. Some may hate it, the emotional situations that is, but i don't think it would be too many. Me personally got into VNs becuase of the emotional situations in katawa shoujo and Clannad. Major companies (Sekai Project, Mangagamer, etc.) are working hard to translate VNs for the world and bring the genre to many players, both old and new. What are you opinions on their style of business? My opinion is pretty much that they are doing a good job of it, it just gives me more things to read so it's hard to have any other opinion about it ^^ Do you feel gaming platforms such as Steam are a good introductory way of showcasing visual novels?Yes, definitive, because it's mostly gamers who uses steam and alot of people sees it and get curious about it, alot of people that didn't know VNs exists will learn about it. The only thing, is that they remove sexual content entierly. It may be postivie or negative depending on how it's viewed, I think it's probably easier to digest for newcomers if there's little to no sexual content, and if you want sexual content there is usually ways to get it even if you bought it through steam as ive read it.
  7. Thank you, and yeh fate/stay night is defintive one of my to read list, quite high on aswell. ^^
  8. Key and akabei soft2, hard to choose one or the other so ill just go with both. When it comes to Key, ive read, enjoyed and loved nearly all of their visual novels, the only ones I haven't read is Planeterian and those who haven't been fully translated to english, mostly cause i enjoy long VNs and to read them when they are complete so i don't have to reread unless i want to. Clannad was also my second love. When it comes to akabei soft2 then it's simply because they've made 2 novels that i enjoyed greatly (sharin no kuni & G-senjou no Maou)
  9. Hello, ill just introduce myself as Rabbit since it's the IGN i usually use, i'm pretty much 20 year old and the things i like can be read on my profile Tho i'm still quite new to fuwanovel ive read a few VNs, about 20 by now, my first being katawa shoujo and second being clannad, it's maybe 3 years since i read katawa shoujo and i'm on and off when it comes to reading new things. Ive also watched a few animes though not nearly enough to call myself nothing but a newbie or amataur on both subjects, my favorite anime is probably Death note if i wanna go for the *dark stuff* but theres also animes like clannad and Toradora that i really enjoyed ^^ My favorite visual novels must be katawa shoujo and clannad, one reason is because of the nostalgia i get from them and i they are what welcomed me to this world, one of my favore novels after that is probably Grisaia no Kajitsu and G-Senjou no Maou, they were probably the two first ones that introduced me to a more action phased novel.
  10. Well i usually come for the story, nukige aside, but ive fapped to quite a few VN's and i see nothing wrong in it, though it kinda depends on the art, the novel and how well it's made. If the h-scenes are well made and has good voice acting(I love it when the sounds they make sounds sexy) than it's quite likely that i fap to it despite that i came for the story. If the h-scenes are bad however than i usually just enjoy the story, take the KEY novels, they have absolutely horrible H-scenes, i haven't read any good so far atleast. Or if it's a novel where i really get into the characters like katawa shoujo, where i got tissues for one reason but i ended up using them for another.
  11. I think there is two *types* of protagonists that i like and its A ) Protagonists that i feel like i can somewhat relate to, like Okazaki Tomoya in clannad, alot of the problems and the way he was acting reflected how i my life was when i read it back then. and B ) Protagonists thats badass and still "good", he doesn't have to be a hero who saves all and does everything right, rather a badass that can make mistakes and doesn't look at life in black&white. My example here would be Kazami Yuuji in Grisaia no Kajitsu.
  12. Hard to say which one is the worst, but when it comes to a route i didn't really like that i can remember from the top of my head is the Rewrite Shizuru route, that may be mainly because off the dissapointment i felt, i had built up quite the expectation cause i absolutely loved Shizuru as a character, and the bits and pieces i got from the video we get and see etc just built up my expectations, but when i played the route i felt mostly only dissapointment, not a horrible route, but it did somewhat dissapoint me.
  13. This seems quite interesting so I think ill try this out. Ill vote for Comyu cause i'm coincidentally reading it atm, halfway through on the 3rd heroine. x)
