Zenophilious got a reaction from ameliagf in What Are You Watching: Movie and TV Show Edition
Thought I'd start a thread where people could talk about the movies they just watched.  We have one for anime, so why not movies in general?  Feel free to talk about any movie, new or old.

Just watched Fido the other night.  It's about civilization after the zombie apocalypse and how zombies are essentially forced into servitude through these weird collars manufactured by some ridiculously powerful corporation.  It's not meant to be taken seriously at all, and is quite humorous if you've seen other zombie movies.  The main character actually names his zombie servant "Fido" and plays fetch with him.

Have a hankering to watch The Dark Knight again; love that movie so much, and I haven't seen it in a while.

EDIT: Just changed it to movies AND TV shows, since why require another thread to talk about TV shows?

Zenophilious got a reaction from morgan_nicole in How do I put a banner on my profile page?
You have to donate to Fuwanovel or be a mod to be able to use cover photos.  IIRC, it only became possible after one of the multiple IPB updates in the past year, and the only reason it's locked to mods and donators is so that they can receive something (other than warm fuzzies) for helping the site.
If you're a mod or have backer status, you'll see this cover photo option when you look at your profile:
Just a warning, it has very specific image resolution and file size requirements, and is a bit of a pain to get it to accept an image.
You can also insert banners into your profile description if you don't want to donate.  They won't be above your profile picture and username, though.

Good news: All assets needed are extractable. Now all I need to do is to make plugins that allow the reading of the assets directly.
This is a patch that requires a copy of the Vita version of "The House in Fata Morgana Dreams of the Revenants Edition" to work, and I will not be bundling it with my patch.

    Update 1 (12:45 AM EST)
Technical issues have caused a hiccup in tonight's upgrade process. Going to ping Nay and we'll try again later today. For now, the forums and front site will be put back online.

    Original Message:
Forums Going Offline at 12:00 (Midnight) EST
In approximately 1.5 hours (at the time this goes live), the forums will be going offline for an unknown amount of time so that I can perform an outrageous amount of updates and fixes. I will announce when the forums are back online on our Twitter account (link). Please panic, and may the VN gods have mercy on our souls.
(Aside: after the forums are updated -- or irreparably broken -- I will also be working on the front site. Once that's done, if I have any energy and strength left in my body, I will try and make a post updating the community about recent events which have caused my absence, and briefly touch on ways we can move forward.)

Zenophilious got a reaction from mitchhamilton in Time for my first ever Bloodborne stream
Decicided to get back into Bloodborne, since the Return to Yharnam community event is going on, and because I never finished it >.<  I'll be streaming from 2pm PDT (9pm UTC) and I'll probably end around 4-5pm PDT, depending on if my dog will let me walk him later rather than sooner.  If anyone wants to see me stream more, I might do more sessions.
    My Twitch channel
I might not be able to chat all that much, since the closest computer's in an odd position to view the TV at, but I'll try to check the chat feed as often as possible.  I have a headset, and will have my mic on.  Adult language will be used, since it's a Soulsborne game, so keep the kiddos out of the room, if you have any.
PLEASE, no spoilers!  I haven't gotten much farther than Father G, so please don't mention events or content that happen afterwards.  Hints and recommendations for stats and items are fine.  Hints for general areas to head towards are fine, but please don't give me explicit routes, or warn me about enemies.
EDIT: Done streaming for now.  Feel free to give me feedback on BB or streaming in general.  Like I said, I might stream more BB if people will actually watch it lol

They also announced that they're no longer working with the PR team they outsourced to for the original Kickstarter campaign.  Apparently they're hiring steiner (one of the translators for the original VN) to as a brand manager, and there isn't going to be any kind of middleman company involved.  He's also going to be the sole translator for Kaziklu Bey as well.
I dunno about anyone else, but I'm pretty hyped.  It's definitely the kick in the pants I need to get around to finishing the original.

I doubt it, honestly.  They seem pretty set on publishing the English TL themselves.  They've had over two years to mull things over, and this appears to be their decision.
You could try emailing them, but I doubt that will change their minds, and there's a pretty decent chance whoever reads your email won't speak English.  All you can really do is refuse to buy it, and tell everyone that you know might be interested in it to stay away.  The best case scenario is that the game tanks, and Harukaze thinks there's no money in the west and loses interest, never butchering a VN this badly again.

Well, bad news for your wallet.  Judging by the site and the fliers they handed out when they originally announced the English translation, the translation is gonna be top notch!  Such gems as, "Once upon a time, mother passing away," and "Some people think she’s kind of a plastic" inspire such confidence in the TL staff, and give the reader a taste of the stunning prose that's sure to follow.  One can clearly see that this VN is in the most capable of hands

Zenophilious got a reaction from Templarseeker in Which platform would you prefer VNs in? (PC, iOS, etc.)
Definitely prefer VNs on PCs.  I've never really liked tablets, and feel that they're overpriced for what they offer.  I will never buy one, but I'll use one if I have to, at least if they aren't iPads.  I decided that the last Apple product I'm going to use will be my new iPod Touch, which was a gift.  I don't like Apple's business practices, the quality of their products for the price, or the way the newer OSs are heading.  [/rant]

Anyway, I don't like letting people see what I'm doing on a computer, even if it's not embarrassing.  I'm a rather private person, at least in real life with people I don't know.  Getting a tablet would be weird for me.

The website went into its worst ever Fuwapocolypse because of her silliness. The site was literally done for until Tay stepped in, put ol Cybersteel and Steve in charge for a while as he did a bunch of behind the scenes work to bring it back fully and expand the site. For a while, Fuwanovel had very good relations with the localization companies and forged great contacts with them under Tay's leadership. It was Tay who placed people like Zaka and Decay in positions on the website to help bring an influx of activity and repair the VNTS.

Meanwhile Aaeru vanished without a word, got us in big ass trouble by using a pirated version of the forum software, and left the site in shambles. I appreciate what she did starting the site, but its pretty clear to me that it greatly outgrew what she wanted and she likely did not approve of the direction the site was headed (hence her attempts to shut it all down later).

Like I said before, though, it's not really ban evading if you're given the okay to do it by multiple mods.  Besides, you'd have just received a warning or a temp ban if you hadn't spammed so much lol  It wasn't meant to be a permanent punishment, just a stop-gap measure until all the spam could be cleared.
I'll see if I have enough time before work to get rid of the rest of the spam.
EDIT: @Clockwork Loli So, unfortunately, it appears that there's no way to recover your content, either the spam or the legitimate posts.  The spam tool wiped all of it, and there's no way to recover them.  I unbanned you, as the spam tool apparently applied an automatic permaban to your account.  You can either go back to your old account, or keep this new one, whichever you'd prefer.

Exactly the same as my views on episodic traditional video games, which are rather negative.
Disregarding the debate on whether or not it's anti-consumer, it kinda comes off to me as just another way of avoiding any kind of financial risk by not fully investing in a complete release.  If it flops, just axe plans for any more episodes and move on, leaving customers with an incomplete story that will never be continued.  Frontwing in particular, imo, uses episodic releases this way, and it doesn't look all that good.  They can apparently afford to fund development of full JP releases, but after they start focusing on western releases they release a flurry of episodic releases with Kickstarter campaigns?  Those actions just scream, "I'm confident in the future success of these products", amirite?
An arguement that's typically brought up in favor of episodic releases is that it gets the content to the customer sooner than a full release theoretically would have, but I honestly just don't care.  My backlog of games, books, TV shows, movies and VNs can quite easily hold me over a longer wait, and even if they couldn't, I'd be fine waiting.  I personally don't buy episodic releases of anything until the "full" product is released, which usually means all the older parts are now on sale.  I can see why this perk might appeal to other customers, but it's a bit odd in the western VN scene, where there's usually a delay between the original JP release and the EN release.  We're pretty used to waiting for pretty much everything at this point lol
I don't really care about the pros of the episodic release format, and the cons don't particularly enamor me with it, either.

That's a slightly different situation.  The story was originally conceived as a single, complete release, and just happened to be later rereleased as three parts.  It coincidentally lent itself pretty well to the episodic format.  All three parts were released on different dates, though, but but the other hallmarks of episodic releases are missing.
tbh, VNs, as a medium, could work pretty well as episodic releases, I've just yet to see an episodic VN fully take advantage of that release format.
