  1. This is a really through work. Good job on going all this way. I think the game really needs a few more editing passes. But it's not the spelling and grammatical errors that bother me. It's all the incorrect translations and wrong words they used. A patch is probably unlikely.
  2. It's very similar to slowbeef's podcast about Ever17. And the same reasons I can't enjoy listening to it. It's also too noisy, like you guys are in a restaurant or some market. Remember11 is not a good first visual novel for the so called visual novel virgins in my opinion. Anyway good luck.

  4. This is not a review. Just a rant. And I guess a click bait for your blog. You obviously had nothing to write about besides piss. You say nothing about the story, characters, sound, or anything else. It's all just piss for you.
  5. Well that's fine if you think so but I think it's just distracting. Most people can't look at one thing and read another and form a good image in their minds. Have you ever played Dies irae or Chaos;Head? Come back when you do, lol.
  6. Sure, but that wasn't my point. If the text is describing one thing but the CG shows another it is very distracting and makes the reader too conscious. It's best to stop showing the CG as soon as the text changes to something else.
  7. Most of the time the CGs or the backgrounds don't really reflect what is happening in reality. They are there to give you an idea. In most vns you'll see an image of one thing while the text says something else entirely. Like an image of some people holding hands but the text already moved on to describe how the characters slap each other. It's annoying but every vn does that.
  8. I would suggest to stick with a virtual pc. VirtualBox is a great virtual machine program. It's free and you can install all kinds of OSs. If you have a system that runs Win10 it's probably good enough to run a virtual machine with a WinXP or Win7. Install your vns on your virtual machine and there you go. You can even adjust the size of the screen (some older vns don't have that ability but it's no problem if you run in a VM). Keeps your computer clean too. But how will the text hooking work? Say you have ITH on your system and the vn is in a virtual machine. It's possible but might take a few extra steps to make it work.
  9. I heard about that. Is every route turns into what you described or is just one of the routes or something? My friend played Tenshihane for example, and he says the vn has two halves. One side is the usual charage thing, but if you pick the other side it totally turns chuuni. One part sounded very exciting to me, while the other made me not want to read it. Edit: fixed some typos.
  10. Isn't this primarily a Higashide Yuuishirou work? I haven't read this one yet and Shumon Yuu has been involved with it in some capacity, it still doesn't look like his style. I think it's that his work is more of requires a special kind of mindset to get into. He is one of these nontraditional writers that you don't really know if it's going to be worth putting so much time reading when your Japanese is still pretty weak. In this case there is even less chance for you to really enjoy his works. Works by Higashide, Masada, Takahama Ryou & Kurashiki Tatsuya, Romeo, and even Ou Jackson, are much more easily identifiable and you know what you're getting into before you dive in. I avoided Shumon Yuu because I can't understand him and I don't know if he is someone I'll enjoy or is his vns just too deep and smart for my head. That's not to say I will never read him, of course I want to read Itsusora, Kitto, Sumiwataru Asairo Yori mo., and Tenshi no Hane o Fumanaide. But I also don't feel like I'm ready to read him right now, other works seem like they can give me much more immediate gratification and satisfaction thank these vns.
  11. The stories. I read vns for their stories and for entertainment. It's the same thing with books, anime, or any other medium.
  12. I agree. At least story vns should have voiced protags. Alas, even many chuuni vns have unvoiced protags.
  13. The only one that might give you trouble is Tokyo Necro. You can play pretty much everything on your system. Even Baldr Sky Zero, I played it on a much older (over 10 year old) computer and it played fine.
  14. Sure, I read some of Vermilion too. It is like you said, harder to read than a common vn. But their later games got harder and harder in my opinion. But they also got better and better as well, lol. I think it's more of an issue of spoilers. I appreciate he didn't show anything from far into the game or something more spoilerish.
  15. I read it in Japanese the first time. And I can say that the prose can get very difficult sometimes. And sometimes it's very vague (which is what I was referring to when I said the English was very close to the original). The difficulty of Dies writing is certainly not a myth, it's not an imagined mystical holly writing either. But the thing is that it's not something exclusive to Dies irae, take any modern Light vn and they are all difficult to read. I know that because I tried them all, lol. And yeah, I agree about the action scenes. They should be brisk to read and easy to follow. I think the action scenes in Dies are hard to follow at times and demand a lot of attention. Maybe you're right. But this doesn't bother me personally at all. I don't remember this part in Japanese so can't say exactly what was going on. You are correct here. I should have read what you said more carefully. But isn't that's exactly what these slashes meant to be? These are not sword slashes, these slashes were meant to decapitate. Someone who swings those slashes is doing with the intention to separate flesh in two. Anyway, we're just gonna keep going in circles, lol.
  16. Isn't that just a bit of a nitpicking here? You can enter a rooftop because it's not like he was climbing it. He entered it because there was a staircase leading up to it just like any other floor. You don't say I exited the school to a 2nd floor or something, right? The line is meant to emphasize the exact time something happened. I agree that the word staple was used too frequently there but perhaps they tried to keep it close to the original Japanese. That is, maybe in Japanese the same word is used in both cases so to retain that in English they use the same word twice. There are plenty of other things the localization took liberties with but perhaps this part was important enough to retain the repetitive wording. Once again, you gotta look at this differently, the word "decapitating" is used as an adjective not as a verb. It describes what these slashes are, not what they are doing. It's like if someone would say armor piercing bullets (or shells), it doesn't mean the bullets are piercing the armor RIGHT NOW. It just description of the kind of bullets these are. As for the rest of the sentence, this is another thing I don't get what's the problem. The sentence comes to give the reader a sense of urgency, these slashes that only grazed him before which already did a huge damage to him will no doubt kill him if they inflict a bigger damage to his body. I don't really see any kind of problem here either. It's most likely another one of Masada's styles. All I'll say is the English translation keeps the confusing and the difficult writing very closely to the original. It's hard to read because it was meant to be this way. Whether that's a good thing or not is for every individual to decide for themselves but I won't blame the translators and the editors and the whole localization team for trying to keep up with the original as close as possible while at the same time trying to make it feel as natural as possible in English (once again, as natural as Masada's writing can be).

It doesn't mean I love them all just that they are interesting copanies. 3rd Eye - One of the best chuuni developers we have today. Light - Another one of the best chuuni developers. Propeller - Doesn't do much these days but what they did in the past puts then as another amazing chuuni developer. They also have some good nakige too. 5pb. - Their science adventure series are cool along with some other vns they made. 07th Expansion - Ryukishi07 is great. KID - For the Infinity series. La'cryma - Another pretty good chuuni developer. Nitroplus - One of the most unique developers. Don't make much today but they have plenty of older goodies. Regista - Founded by the guy who did the Infinity series. Spike Chunsoft - Makers of many great visual (or sound) novels. Zero Escape, Danganronpa, 428, Machi, Kamaitachi no Yoru and so on. Giga's Baldr team - The Baldr games are the best thing to come out of Giga, and the only thing worth playing.

  19. If you know Japanese well enough then it's best to read in Japanese, otherwise don't even bother. There's a reason why it's one of the hardest vns to read. As for the translation quality, it's very good. Very polished and flows really nicely from paragraph to paragraph. So I recommend you read it in English if it's too hard in Japanese. Do you have the entire game with all the routes downloaded or just the common route?
  20. Phenomeno is nice too. It's short but does a good job with the horror.
  21. The true usually ending (I think they call it grand ending) should be left for last. I did not play the Xtend edition but the original only had 3 endings. Two good and one true. So I think the last two ends are probably only for the Xtend edition.
