  1. Ren why do you have me so conflicted? I don't want to wake up at 11 it's already 3am and I'm not asleep. At the same time it's an opportunity to volunteer to talk about porn and not look weird while doing so. This is why I need more girlfriends. I realized while my guy friends put up with my weird 2D waifus when they could zone me out on voice comm it was okay but then when I tried to get them to play "weird Japanese porn games" with me it was not okay :c I'm just saying BFF status is based on who will play Starless with you (actually who will play Euphoria the second it comes out with you, but still).
  2. This review is a bit old and granted I haven't read Grisaia yet but I looked at the art review specifically (because the art in a game is very important to me and it had a rather low rating) and I'm astonished by how ignorant some of the artistic comments come off. First of all as somebody who hasn't read Grisaia I had to pull up the VNDB page to understand your "ideas" on the characters. Why? Because you list the characters in a line and then you talk about Amane before Sachi while setting Sachi's picture in first. Why is this a big deal? In the pictures you place above Makina and Sachi have the same headsize and you're like "look the first girl has a big head but the second girl with the same head has a small head!" it's honestly the only reason I noticed they were out of order. But still, in that case. You make a comment that her head is bigger "in comparison" to other girls but Makina, Sachi, and Michiru have the same headsize. Michiru's head is perceived as smaller only because of how the frame of her hair sits. On her left (our right) she has a darker blonde strand that cuts into the face making it look like her face dents inward around the cheekline and on her right (our left) she has a very wide frame the cuts off far from her ear. Since Makina's frame starts right before the ear you're forced to see that whole round face shape, while Michiru's actually accentuates the face in the way a frame is supposed to. Sachi's face looks "thinner" only because she isn't in 3/4ths view like the other 2. Now we call Amane's face small but it's actually of comparable size to Yuuji and Yumiko. The difference is how Amane's hair sits. The screenshot below explains why her head looks smaller. Look at this picture and look at her sprite in your OP. Notice how part of Amane's bangs sits over her face as well as one of the 2 long strands of her "frame" (the medium length pieces that go over the front of her body and fall on either side of her boobs) actually goes over her face. It cover the side of her face effectively giving the appearance that her head is smaller....if you don't understand how her hair looks. But you know the second you realize how her hairstyle is composed and then you look and see that Amane and Yumiko have pretty much the same sprite head just flipped you realize you can just slap Yumiko's hair onto Amane and swap their eye colors and if you cut off their picture's before the neck and made them both a "avatar" image I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't notice the difference until they sat down and had a staring contest with the two, and even then I'm sure someone who hadn't looked at Grisaia for a few months would probably take a minute to figure out which one was actually Yumiko...because you know the both have the same face shape and size and the facial differences between them are minuet when you look at a nose line and the squareness of Yumiko's eyes. It's like the callings of "identical twins" in real life if that was all that was different in your facial anatomy. But let's talk anatomy. Let's talk about how the OP fails to recognize anatomy when criticizing Grisaia for ohmuhgawd changing the spacial difference between her chin and her mouth and turning her into a whole new character! because you know perspective doesn't exist in art and it doesn't matter where/how you look your head moves but if you look to the ground your eyes are actually on the top of your head and if you sit down your eyes are floating above your body just so that they "don't move". Yumiko's hair Let me start by saying these pictures aren't "perfect" replicas of each other. Now let me finish by saying the anatomy is perfectly justifiable in both of them. First picture is Yumiko looking down. How did my detective skills decipher such witchcraft? That piece of shading in the middle of her head is her hairline. It's after the bangs end and assumably around the centerpoint of her head. What does it mean when a person is looking down? I means that the top of their head (the part covered in hair unless you're bald) does not contain facial features. It means that since her top of her head is showing therefore her eyes are further down, therefore she has more hair. Look at the picture below to see what I mean. apollo13art.com's head anatomy study The middle picture of her looking straight ahead is the bottom picture of Yumiko's the picture underneath is the first picture of Yumiko's where she has "more hair". Granted the Apollo13 headstudy shows the downward glance at a more drastic angle, but let's talk about differences that were complained about in the OP. "a big part of Yumiko's hair is occupying her head" I already talked about how that's angling and there is no logical reason to give Yumiko a balding spot on the top of her head just so that it doesn't "look" like she has more hair. Her eyes are normally a vertically enlongated rectangular shape. Looking at Apollo13's picture you see that the eyes become "vertically pinched" when you tilt your head down, they don't become as long anymore. Therefore since Yumiko's eyes are supposed to take up less vertical space the rectangle shaped eyes are perceived as more square. I swear she didn't swap out her eyes, that's actually how Yumiko looks. Again when you look downward everything on your face gets vertically squashed therefore her face will look more round. You can see in her sprite she's just barely looking down and has an oval face, in the 2nd CG you showed me she has a very oval face, in that first CG that you said made her look fat in? She's looking down at the hand in an angle that will squish all of her features and make them look fatter. When Yumiko looks more straight on she should have more space between the bottom of her chin and her lips than when she looks down. The only actual anatomy problem between the two pictures is the space between the nose and the lips as when she looks down they should be closer together than when she looks straight on. I believe this is more of a problem with anime noses than it is with the artist's sense of proportions because it would look really weird to have a nose that doesn't even have real lines to sit right on top of her lips. next Yumiko image One of your first complaints about this picture is that her right eye is rather far over...I'll give you that one. Her face however is not too thin and if her face was too think then her face wouldn't look "more compressed" it would look quite the opposite. If her face was too thin it would maker her look thinner not fatter in the face. Let's be real. Again most of this picture's "issues" arise from perspective, she's looking up but the camera is looking down on her so that her face is almost in a head on view but the rest of her body is in an angled over view. Her eyes are a little far apart which leads to one eye being too close to her ear other than that the anatomy on her face is fine. Her hits might be a little big but I haven't seen any other pictures that really display her full hips thus far and with the view being angled downward if her right leg is tilted outward from her body the way A/C/D poses below are, then I could see the big hip as being an extension of her thigh and her thigh's angle female poses I'm not going to argue Sachi's fat hands in that first picture (although her fingers could have looked fat if they were outlined/shaded correctly because of her fingers curing into her body...but the artist obviously drew it way way wrong) I'm also not going to bother repasting the second picture of Sachi and remaking the complaint that her mouth should have a lot of space from her chin because of angling...in part because it's obvious the eyes are spaced wrong in that picture (too far over on her right eye) and in part because I'm beating a dead horse by claiming the OP doesn't understanding anatomy when a head is tilting up or down. What I would like to talk about though is little Sach and little Yuuji and how the picture is actually really cute and says a lot about the characters and how they feel even to some who, again, hasn't read the VN. little Sachi and little Yuuji Look at their body language. Little Sachi is happy. Little Yuuji is sad. Sachi's head is more upward facing thant Yuuji's. On top of that Yuuji is slumping his shoulders (as seen by the obtusely downward angle) and Yuuji is hunched forward. Sachi on the other hand is in swinging position. Have you ever sat on a swing with you back perfectly straight? No not really. You lean forward a bit unless you're in the forward swing where you throw your body back. Sachi isn't slumping forward really. Since Yuuji's head is facing downward (as seen by how his shoulders end halfway up his ears and Sachi's ears are above her shoulders) it would be ridiculous for Sachi who is holding her head up higher in a position where their shoulders are even to have her head in line with Yuuji's. Her head is heald higher his is slumped forward at the same angle of his body. Sachi's chin his higher than Yuuji's, Sachi's mouth starts higher than Yuuji's, Sachi's nose line his higher, her eye line is higher, her ear's start/end higher...and her head ends higher. Please if I stood next to someone who was might height and then slumped my head forward don't criticize the guy next to me for having an enlarged head, you'll come off as insulting and probably get punched in the face. The last Sachi CG looks like that purely because the artist didn't draw Sachi with a chin and the underside of her chin. It happens in a lot of Anime...they have 2D heads not 3D heads in that regards. It looks a little off and it isn't really consistent but it's 2 CGs out of the batch you showed me that really has "glaring" issues (the other one being miss fat hands) I'll also give you the picture you resaturated as being off, after that I didn't really read much more. I will say I personally liked the Yumiko expression in the carousal picture. It's not natural or realistic but neither is being able to see eyes over hair or eyebrows over hair or anime pointy chins or nonexistent noses or many other stereotypically anime art qualities. It's an overexagerated expression as used in many pictures that aren't realism/semi-realism and I personally think it's a cute childish cartoon expression that shows Yumiko caught offguard and in wonderment in a childish way while sitting on a childish ride such as a merry-go-round and it's a good juxtaposition to Yuuji's expression in the picture which is very subtle and mature. She's brimming with childish emotions and he's happy observing her and getting lost as a bystander or in his own thoughts (I can also see this scene as Yumiko being surprised that Yuuji is sitting behind him in this case it still feels like a childish expression as her being too naive to adapt to a more sexual situation otherwise I see it as a childish joy of the ride). Overall people are welcome to like/dislike the art how they please. I won't argue that. I will however say the evaluation of everything that was "wrong" with all the pictures was very silly and inaccurate. That's like saying you don' like pecan pie because it tastes too fruity. It's okay to not like a fruit pie for being fruity...umm but I promise your pecan pie doesn't taste like cherries there's no reason to use it as the excuse for why you don't like it.
  3. I don't know any Japanese really but looking at the word Bakage it looks like any other "genre" of Japanese game. Charage, Moege, Nakige, Nukige, Utsuge, Otomege, etc. And of course anybody who knows anything about Japanese characters should recognize "baka" from the famous Tsundere phrases. So it looks like "Stupid game" to me without using Google to figure it out. ...On the other hand I'm reading LB! and I could have sworn Rin called Mastako (if that's how I even spell his name) Bakage instead of Baka at one point. It's what I heard from the VO though so I might have just misheard it. Anyway I normally just assume that a vowel + ge at the end of the word means "game" of some sort unless I have reason to think otherwise.
  4. Been playing Little Busters! for the last 5 hours apparently...it's actually surprisingly good so far and the whole aphorisms part had me cracking up so hard. I put it down for now because I was in the living room and my whole family is watching tv and trying to talk but I'll definitely curl up in bed with it again tonight.
  5. I've pirated DRAMAtical Murder, Hadaka Shitsuji, and Dangan Ronpa. The first two I got from Fuwanovel the 3rd one I found on tumblr. I actually bought a PS Vita and legal copies of Dangan Ronpa and Super Dangan Ronpa 2 earlier this year. I'd be more than happy to buy either Hadaka Shitsuji or DRAMAtical Murder if they were either translated officially or if I could find a cheap physical copy of one of them. On the other hand I will probably buy 2 copies of Hamashima Shigeo's games. I bought the digital version of NTY!!! when it came out and I'll do the same for Euphoria but I definitely want the hardcopy for both. I almost preordered NTY!!! but I was having car troubles at that point and it was right before a big trip and I just forgot after that. At this point I'm just going to wait to get the physical for me to finish some of my backlog so that I can think about getting another game or two with it. I've bought games from JAST, MangaGamer, Sekai Project, Hanako Games, Steam and even 2 from Ren's wonderful shipping services. I mean I've spent well over 1k on League of Legends I already have 200+ skins 18 rune pages and I only play support....so I need something else to pour my money into that isn't more crappy Steam games. I'll be honest though getting that VN Bundle that came out a few months back with 2 MG and 2 JAST titles for $10 felt like a steal even if I legally obtained it :/
  6. I finally opened my Little Busters! box and I think that's probably what I'm going to end up starting today. It's really long though so I might just play a few hours of it and then go find something else to play. I'm honestly not sure that I'll like LB that much but I felt like I needed to read a Key piece at some point and I was able to get the physical copy of it.
  7. Funny thing is this new artist was someone who was known for drawing a lot of "well received" fanart for Huniepop. Basically everybody was like "Yeah! this fanart is great!" and then she became the artist for the next game and it was like "You suck ass! This art sucks ass!" I for one love the new art I think it's super cute. I liked the old art too. Also I'm going back to play Huniepop again and I'm trying for too many achievements at once. Trying to sleep with 3 girls before upgrading any talents, to sleep with all the girls without talking to any of them, sleep with all the girls without buying them drinks, never fail a date, sleep with a girl by the end of day 4. I'm on Evening of day 4, gifts have not been kind to me. I'm pretty much playing each round 6-12+ times to try to win them because I need 700 points but only get like 1 per bubble popped >_> I'd just skip dates until night but then I wouldn't finish within 18 days.
  8. When Koisuru Natsu No Last Resort's translation comes out my boyfriend and I are going to play it together, specifically Riho's route BC big tits shoved into your face with lots of cleavage is obviously #1. No I convinced him to play a route of Katawa Shoujo at one point but as of yet we haven't played any Visual novels together. He's finishing college about a 7 hour drive from me though so I'd only want to play short VNs with him, if we played together, until next may when we move in together. But he's already made it clear that he'd do it with me if it made me happy even if it was yaoi or a nukige.
  9. That's like saying prostitution is bad (in places where it's legal) because you have to be legal age + to work in the field, or that pornography is bad because you have to be 18+ to watch/preform in it. It doesn't make something inherently bad if it's an 18+ kind of ordeal even with a more "limited" legal audience. If that's what the niche is meant for that's what it's meant for and alienating a niche because it doesn't appeal to a wider audience doesn't do anything to fill the gap it was filling before. Not to say that an All Ages release is bad, but personally I don't like the idea of this being an All Ages release with a "planned" 18+ release. If it is planned from basically the start then the story was made with this in mind (even if they don't base a whole route on sex) it's basically like "we're giving you a working 'beta' or 'demo' and we're releasing the full thing later" instead they're calling it All Ages and 18+. In fact I think things like that aren't really good at reeling in the target audience because you're going to get a bunch of 12 year olds who play the all ages version, become obsessed with the game, find out there is pronz in it and then you're going to have an audience littered with young children. Which A) isn't the kind of person who can walk into the store and pick up a physical release of your 18+ games (which is, ahem, most of them) and B ) they're not the people with the money to be funding your company. So I don't see this "larger audience" as a positive, just a neutral, and I still don't see inherent badness in 18+ games. I just want to do cute zombies and lolis with skulls in their hair. That's all guys. That's what this is really about death + gore + sexy times.
  10. I just like the character with a skull clip in her hair, I'm a sucker for skulls.
  11. I think my goal of the day is to finally get around to finishing the routes I haven't finished in Sweet Fuse and then to work my way through Dangan Ronpa 2. I meant to play through it after finishing the first game but I got too caught up in the School Mode of DR and it pissed me off so I put DR2 on hold.
  12. Wasn't initially planning on reading with you guys but I've been wanting to read this title for a while so if I get a few more games in my backlog finished I might join you.
  13. I think Violet's sprite would piss me off the whole game tbh. That hair in her eyes in just the most awkward way. : / I'll keep an eye on it I guess but it'd have to get really good reviews for me to want to play it because the male love interests in otomes don't normally interest me.
  14. 20 minutes after I complained about Higurashi being boring they pulled out a game of Old Maid and I was engrossed in the story. In fact it was after 5 am when I next looked at the clock. I saw I had 3 Steam achievements left and I was ~8 hours into the game so I probably only had an hour to an hour and a half left. I ended up going to bed because I had stuff I had to do tomorrow that wouldn't get accomplished it I pulled an all nighter. Woke up 4 hours later and finished the rest of the game. It was actually really good, especially for a game with no real CGs, and I'm really glad MangaGamer redid the sprites for the game. Those void eyes really did a number. I'm really excited for the next Higurashi piece to come out now. I honestly should have waited until pre-orders for the 2nd installment before I started part 1 probably, less antsy anticipation, but hopefully they'll go pretty fast now because all the sprites and everything are done on top of it has been translated by them before (although we know it's still going to take 5ever that's how translation works). I guess now it's back to the drawing board. I'm going to have to go through my Backloggery and figure out what to play next.
  15. considering the pirating potential in europe/america. Most easily done through PC. A lot of Japanese countries don't want to work with us in part because of our pirating rates.
  16. Well then. I was originally planning on playing it on auto with the lights off in one sitting. Umm yeah I didn't think I was going to have to spend 8 hours to do it. I guess I'm only about 1/4th of the way through part one then. It might be a bit slow ATM but I'll definitely try to sit down and finish it in pieces throughout the week because I'm sure it wouldn't have gotten a complete CG overhaul and re-release if it wasn't highly praised.
  17. Eww I'm actually not reading anything really interesting right now. I preordered the new Higurashi MG put out last month and got around to opening it today. I was really excited for it because although I haven't read any horror VNs before (Saya no Uta is still on my list) I really like horror movies but I feel like the pacing is so slow right now. Maybe it's because I've been playing it on Auto (I thought it would help the suspense to have it timed honestly) but I think part of it is that I really can't stand Rena. Especially her "kyute" mode. :/ She just bothers me so much especially when she always repeats stuff. I'm ~2 hours into it (and for $5 I would have assumed that I'd be done with Ch1 by now but VNDB doesn't say how long this particular release is and my game is still going) and I plan to keep going but still, it's not at all interesting to me yet. I'm also kind of sort of reading Starless right now. It was probably a mistake on my part because nukiges aren't known for their good plot and I"m not really into huge boobs or femdom (and let's be honest half of the characters look really stupid. The Mistress's son has her magenta hair for crying out loud) I guess I just felt the need to pick up another JAST title and I knew that Bible Black was supposed to be one of the most known hentais so I figured you know, same artist and stuff. ._. why? I also picked up that Groupee bundle though so I'm excited to try out Demonbane when I get a chance. I already owned both of the $1 tier games but I went for the $10 tier just because while there is some debate over if the MG games are good or not, it's 6 VNs for $10.
  18. I have it and I've played through 2 good and 2 bad endings but I think the game just falls short compared to what games in the otome genre should be like and I think the game also falls short on the suspense, get out while you can kind of action genre. The MC was kind of dull and so were a lot of the men on top of the "Whats your problem!" yelling didn't really affect gameplay at all which made the script feel really forced to have people disagree just so she could shout it. Every time she yelled it at the pig it w like he didn't look like he was going to disagree but he had to be disagreeable so she could ask him what the hell his problem was.
  19. They added in extra CGs and such. It's the PSVita version that's on Steam it's not like Sekai was like "let's just blindly censor this, and this, and maybe this"
  20. They said on Reddit that #wet was still in the Steam version
  21. aka if you have Windows 7 and you like Windows 7 you don't have to update, if you have Windows 8 it sucks the poorly drawn underlay of a VNs mosaic D and you should update it. Windows 8 was created with the idea of integrating touch screen computers with an easier interface. Problem is they didn't really have a touchscreen computer market beforehand and you get a bunch of crappy interface on nontouchscreens.
  22. I absolutely loved Dmmd although there is still quite a bit to complain about. First of all I'm a huge Noiz fan. He was my favorite character from the start, my first route, I didn't even realize I was on his route until I realized that nobody had showed up in the capital for 30-40 minutes. I didn't get a choice on who to think about. I think Koujaku's story dragged itself out a little long. It was interesting at first and by the end I was glad it was over. The other three really bugged me though. I'm never going to forgive Mink's route for its poor story telling choice. The second Aoba had justified Mink's physical abuse and rape I was enraged. It was done because Mink wasn't able to say it himself but it was still awful to read. I disliked that in Clear's route Aoba was still the uke. I understand they wanted that to be Aoba's general role but for the most part Aoba claims to be a varying degree of gay depending on the route and he lacks sexual experience. Therefore he doesn't have the experience to have a cut and dry preference for one position in the other and I felt that Aoba and Clear's relationship put Aoba in a seme role the whole route except for the moment they get their h-scene. As for the true route this doesn't even deserve a spoiler tag but all I have to say is that Mink and Noiz both feel very OOC during the routem all of the characters are all like "yeah I'll help!" Even if they have no real motivation or reasoning to care in the events of that route. Other than that I enjoyed the general plot, I thought it had good characterization, I enjoyed the art and the storytelling (besides what I've listed) I think that the music was actually pretty good too and I enjoyed the bad ends as much as the good ends. When it comes to BL VNs it is definitely my second favorite.
  23. I'm pretty close to a 100% kind of girl. I like to get every ending and choose every choice. I'm still stuck at 98% for No, Than You!!! Though because once you finish all the endings you have to replay every route for like an added 5 lines here and there to get the last 2%. I figured if I ever replayed the game one day (one route at a time when I felt like it) I will someday get 100%. Otherwise even if I "drop" a VN I will eventually come back to 100% it
  24. If it's not using any character designs, settings, sprites, references, etc to ZE then it's not much of a ZE fan made VN and just a general VN. It's like me saying "I like Katawa Shoujo" and then making a slice of life/drama/romance VN about a guy in an all girls school. At that point it's just a dramatic romance VN in an all girls school it's not a fan made VN.
