REALLY enjoying Kokoro Connect, and I'm only on Episode 4.
 
Taichi is a bit *too* capable in solving peoples' problems, but it's actually quite refreshing to see (especially after the drama-riddled Nagi no Asukara where everybody just yells at each other before running away which led to dragged out conflicts)
 
I liked how everybodys' problems were alluded to even if I was too st00pid to actually notice until they verbally said what their problem was >.>

Just started Katawa Shoujo tonight, despite promising myself I would start Muv-Luv next. I think the icon for Katawa Shoujo was what made the difference; it was too perfect to ignore.
 
I'm two hours in and loving the common route so far. Kenji is best insane sidekick.

People have mentioned it above, but I'll throw in another vote for Kono Oozora ni, Tsubasa wo Hirogete / If My Heart Had Wings. As others have also said, the translation definitely has issues at times, especially during two character routes I've played so far; the third character route is, surprisingly, pretty good so far, as was the common route. Those issues are worth getting through, even for a grammar/spelling nitpicker like me.
 
The translation issue is the only thing that prevents it from being a really top-notch VN, and this is especially notable since it's a very light-hearted romance-oriented VN, which fits your request perfectly. There's always a little bit of conflict in the story, of course (because a story with no conflict is kinda boring) but it's always (at least of the parts of the game I've played so far) external conflict related to the larger plot; relationship-oriented conflict is basically non-existent.

Clannad changed a lot for me. Not gonna lie. I never really was hung up on family ties before it, as most of my family didn't really get me. That aside, it was rough patch in my life where I needed something to pull me out, 'cause there was certainly no someONE's to do it. I was extremely depressed and isolated and honestly there was nobody around who could figure out why, least of all myself. So I guess I kinda just discovered Clannad one day and well... what resulted is who I am today. It broke down the emotional walls that I had built up for so long and helped me appreciate what I had so much more. You could say my entire emotional makeup was overhauled.

It sounds more like a keyboard problem to me, actually, since you say the mouse is moving specifically between the options, which would usually happen if you pressed the keyboard up/down keys.
 
Assuming it's not a laptop, maybe try disconnecting/reconnecting the keyboard. If that doesn't help, have you tried rebooting the computer yet (yes, people make fun of this suggestion, but it really does solve most problems)?

I started reading VNs a little less than a year ago, when I finished watching the Little Busters! anime dub, realized I would have to wait an indeterminate amount for Refrain to be dubbed, and decided I couldn't wait. Instead of going for the subbed Refrain, I went straight to the VN, and I'm glad I did, since it was absolutely wonderful and is probably still my favorite VN. In the process, I also found this website, and only recently found that there's a great community here!
 
I apparently don't read through VNs very quickly, so I've only read a few others since Little Busters!: Rewrite, Kanon (detecting a pattern here, right?), World End Economica Episode 1 (c-c-c-combo breaker!), and most recently If My Heart Had Wings (which I'm about halfway through now in terms of heroine routes completed).
 
I'm looking to start something new to alternate playing with If My Heart Had Wings, so I don't start to feel tired of the style, and I'm currently picking between (these are pretty arbitrarily-chosen) Cross Channel, Muv Luv (the original, with the intention of playing the later games afterwards), and Steins;Gate (though I've already seen the anime). I'm open to any "must-play" recommendations otherwise, though! Presence of H-scenes is a negative for me, but not a huge negative; mainly I just want a compelling story, an attractive/unique setting, and a good mix of emotions.
 
Also (bear with me just a bit longer), if anybody is looking to fill roles for a project, either translation or OELVN, I do at least have some time and excellent proof-reading skills which I'd be happy to contribute to a team in need. I also have a tiny tiny grasp of spoken Japanese (which makes the often-terrible translation of If My Heart Had Wings all the more painful...), so I might make a good beta tester for a translation of a voiced project, maybe?
