    (Last time…) Guy: "Oookay. I still think they're porny." (< not a word)   Me: "That probably says more about you than the art style."   *Tay gets slugged*   Me: "Owww!"   Guy: "No, but really. Why not just read a book or comic instead?"       (And now for the "epic" conclusion!)   Me: “What do you mean?”   Guy: “I dunno. Why read *that”—“    *he waves a finger lazily at the PC screen*    “when you could just read a comic or a book, instead?”   Me: “Um. Because variety is a good thing? For example, do you eat the same thing for lunch every day?”   *Uncomfortable moment of silence.*   Me: “You do, don’t you?”   Guy: “Yeah, generally.”   Me: “Dang. Way to pull a Ford on me. Okay, so, that was a bad example –“   Guy: “Ford?”   Me: “Henry Ford. The guy who made the cars? He’s famous for the line, ‘You can have any color [of Model T] as long as it's black.’ Meaning: sameness is boring.”   *Guy’s eyes are still glazed over*   Me: “Okay, fine. Tell me a hobby that interests you.”   Guy: “NASCAR.”   Me: “Um. No. Try again. Give me another one. A better one.”   *Tay gets slugged*   Me: “Owww!”   Guy: “Music, then.”   Me: *Rubbing arm* “What kind of music?”   Guy: “Oh, all kinds.”   Me: “What’s your favorite song?”   Guy: “’The Angry American’ by Toby Keith”   *Uncomfortable moment of silence*   Me: “I’m feeling increasingly justified, here. If that’s your favorite song, we’ve got bigger problems to deal with.” *Continuing rapidly to avoid more pain* “Okay, so, by comparison – don’t you like listening to more than just that one song? Or to just Toby Keith? Isn’t it good to get some variety?”   Guy: “I guess so. But I do listen to him most of the time. I don’t like much else.”   Me: “You’re making this very hard, [Guy]. Anyway, I’m sure that if you searched your soul you’d discover that variety is a good thing and keeps life interesting. I do read books, but I also read these things—“    *pointing to PC screen*    “—because they’re fun. And different.”   Guy: “And porny.”   Me: “What is it with you and that word?”   Guy: “It’s just what they are, [Tay].”   Me: *mucho annoyed look*   Guy: “I’d be too embarrassed to get caught reading one of those.”   Me: “How mature of you.”   Guy: “They can’t be that much different than a book, man.”   Me: “You’d be surprised.”   Guy: “Not likely.”   Me: “How about we make this interesting?”   Guy: “Fine by me.”   Me: “I’m going to let you borrow [my tablet] for a few hours. You’re going to play one of these ‘porny’ games. If it doesn’t impress you, I’ll buy you lunch. If it does impress you, however, you buy me lunch. And if it makes you cry, you have to take my afternoon shift.”   Guy: “Fine. But if I hate it, you have to take my shift tomorrow morning.”   Me: “Great.” *tap* *tap* *tap*    Guy: “So what am I reading?”   Me: “It’s a sunny little thing called 'Planetarian'.” *hands over tablet*   Guy: “Wish me luck.”   Me: “Good luck. Oh, and I locked the other apps, so you can’t snoop. Sorry.”   Guy: “D*@%.”         The After-Story: [Guy] loved Planetarian and he definitely cried. Lunch was delicious, as was having the afternoon off. He’s interested in trying another “porny game”, though I do not know which one I’ll recommend to him. I have not yet actually told him that there is, in fact, porn in some of the games. Mostly because I really hate the word “porny.”

    Too much dating sim, too little Visual Novel. It's incredibly repetitive and uninteresting, but maybe (probably not) they can make it better before it's fully released. The few times something does happen it's somewhat fun and good but it's not really worth the money as it is now. I expected more after playing Sunrider.

    Hello there people.
    I'm somewhat new here, I, (there will be lots of I's here because lets face, I'm the one this is about) am a 21 year old human person(?) of the male type. I have been using the site for about a year for torrents and keeping an eye on translation progress and recently decided to create an account. And since I've got nothing better to do let me tell you about how I ended up on this site.

    It all started about a year ago, it was a cold Sunday in March, I was checking this little site called Reddit, maybe you've heard about it, and in the glorious /r/PCMasterRace subreddit there was a screen shot from some manga looking game with some text about how deep our glorious PC exclusives are. Now I'm not usually a big fan of manga and anime or Japanese stuff in general but something about this picture got me interested so I checked the comments and there I would find that this was from a Visual Novel called Katawa Shoujo. This was not the first time I had heard of Visual Novels, I had heard the usual "Japanese romance porn game" description and thought that it was nothing for me, because I am better than that. But when I read these comments I thought "hey, it's free and there is sexy bits, I like free and sexy stuff!" so off i went and downloaded this very visual novel I know I had looked down on others for playing. Later this Sunday I started playing and got surprised, this was not at all the sexy fun stuff i had expected but I kept on going and some hours later in the middle of the night I had finished Emis route. Feels had been felt like never before and I had found something I didn't know was there. I liked it a lot. After completing Lilly(best girl)s route I wanted to try reading another and stumbled upon this very site.

    Fast forward to today I have played 50+ VNs with some more or less completed due to various shitty/uninteresting plots or disgustingly annoying characters ("Onii-chan Onii-chan Onii-chan", shut the fuck up Chinami, nobody likes you anyway). Most of them 18+ as i tend to stay away from All ages due to my incurable perversion. I like mostly romance stuff, there not much romance in other video games so I'm glad that there is a lot to choose from. My favorite VN so far is Muv-Luv Alternative, big surprise I know, but Katawa Shoujo will always have a special place in my heart. Also, Grisaia no Kajitsu might be the most overrated VN in the world.

    That is all.

    So decided to randomly rant about why I think the removal of the torrents is not just a good thing but a necessary thing to happen in order for fuwanovel to survive. Apologies if anything below is inaccurate or what not I'm a history teacher not a legal expert.

    Fuwanovel has always served a rather niche group and now this niche group is being affected by the many changes that the fuwanovel website is currently going through. As visual novels get more noticed in the west and other parts of the world changes are going to happen. Fuwanovel was capable of doing what it used to in large part because it remained anonymous and rather unheard of. With the world slowly changing its tune about visual novels and anime related content in general fuwanovel needs to change with it. Instead of being a place to pirate it needs to be a place that when people find out about it they don't associate it with an underground porn distribution site (as inaccurate as that is). It needs to go legal as visual novels themselves become more well known so they too can stay in the legal standing. Make no mistake recent surveys on a number of websites have already proven that visual novels are becoming more well known and it even has its own tag on steam and the majority of visual novel sales last year seemed to be of the all ages type. Fuwanovel is trying to make itself friendly to the people who come from those games so that they won't be afraid to try some of the other ones. The media is now looking at visual novels as a type of game regardless of whether they believe they actually are or not and thus will be looking into the genre and the community to write up about them.

    The website is currently seeing a number of people leave the website (or at the very least claim they will) but even without the torrents on the main page fuwanovel has something they won't be able to find elsewhere. A community. Not to sound cheesy and all but humans crave connection and what fuwanovel does is connect people who play visual novels with one another. It's not the most common topic of which one can discuss to the average person and so despite people leaving if they want to participate in a community then I believe we'll see a number of them return. They might be upset now but let's wait and see how things blow over...I don't see a good alternative to fuwanovel at this time and even if something did pop up it would take some time for it to grow to fuwanovel notoriety.

    One of the biggest questions that I've heard people ask about this is whether or not translators will actually be affected and from what I can tell more than likely no. The translators either buy the game legitimately or know how to find the game through various means without fuwanovel's aid. It simply is a place where people can find their translations. So this is likely to not affect them in the slightest.

    I see the argument that fuwanovel is doing this to try and get people to buy more visual novels and while I agree with the idea that people should support an industry if they enjoy it I am also aware not everyone has the luxury of it. In this instance removing patches/torrents is not really going discourage pirates from pirating nor increase their urge to buy stuff as a result. I think a large part of the torrents being missing can stem from the idea that people of many different ages and different nationalities with many different laws and beliefs have been finding the games and that any of these places could be targets for the internet regulation bills/laws/rules/etc... that multiple nations have been trying to get past. In getting rid of the stuff that would have made the site a target it essentially makes it so that it is more likely to stand the test of time as well as any new laws that might try to get past in regards to the internet; as the internet and technology get ever more popular this becomes more of an issue.  The site doesn't even have to worry about that due to the removal of that which would make it a target.

    To the people who are still concerned about the loss of the torrents I implore you to look at this from the point of view of the owner of this website and anyone who works within it;

    It is really quite obvious when one thinks about it but torrenting is quite illegal in many places around the world. Since people from all walks of life in any place of the world can potentially access it the owner of a site is responsible for the content distributed. Each of these people that visit this site live in different places with their own laws and regulations. In some places you would be lucky to be just fined and dealing with copyright laws in other parts of the world this could be considered much much worse. If a visual novel is 18+ one could be hit with some criminal legal ramifications as well and it's even worse if one is considered distributing adult content to minors since obscenity laws in many places are quite ridiculous. By getting rid of torrents/downloads the site is not capable of being hit legally for those issues and as such the longevity is now increased for the website as a whole.

    To everyone who is currently complaining about this site not hosting torrents/downloads then I tell you go off and create a site that allows distribution yourself. Go ahead take a chance and create and fund your own site while also maintaining yourself within the law. No one should be faulting any of the members for not wanting to take such a risk in being fined or jailed and if you want to complain or get upset then do it yourself. If you don't have the metaphorical balls to do it yourself you shouldn't be complaining about other people not doing it. You never know when one of those companies could decide to sue you or you find out something went against the law...so again go right ahead no one will stop you. In fact I dare/challenge you to create a site that does just such a thing.
