  1. EDIT: I also just realized who garejei is, looking forward to Sol Trigger! <3 Speaking of which...I should get VC3 and Type-0... I love Revengeance so much. Pretty much got it on Steam the day it came out. Already going through it again on higher difficulties. Mistral's theme is catchy as hell but in all honesty I love all the music in the game. Oh, didn't notice that edit. Thanks for being interested! I hope you'll enjoy the translation when it's done. But, but... the wacky dialouges. Like when the news guy talks to you through the TV. Or when you convince a girl that you're her pet turtle.
  2. I thought learning kanji and grammar at the same time in a balanced way was just common sense. Pretty much. I just read a VN and every time an unknown kanji popped up I either jotted it down or copy/pasted it into a doc file for later reviewing (which I've been doing lately due to laziness)
  3. One of the hardest things to predict. You could potentially be playing VNs with ITH support in a year or less, but each learner is different.
  4. Apologies, it's just that sometimes people can be vague with phrases like "just started", since it could mean, like 3-4 months as well. Nah, you won't need all of RTK. Try a couple hundred of the basic ones (I started with the Genki books), then fill in the gaps with ITH.
  5. You still need to be fairly skilled. Based on my experiences, it's still going to have narration and kanji that's primarily aimed at adults linguistically (or not necessarily adults, but people fluent in the language, like your average Japanese high schooler). I could post examples, but I dunno if you know enough Japanese to determine the difficulty of a sentence based on that. But if you want me to post samples, let me know. (Edit: Actually, nevermind. Sorry. It seems like I don't have anything installed at the moment. For screenshots you could just go to vndb.) As for the second question... well that depends on the individual. I got better at reading untranslated VNs by, well, reading untranslated VNs. The more you read, the more kanji you'll be exposed to, and the better you'll become eventually. Attempt this only after you got your grammar down, though.
  6. I'm playing that. And everything is so expensive in shops. I really need to be careful what gear to buy and stuff... Good man. One of my all-time favorites as well. Only 3 or so playthroughs here, clearly I'm not hardcore enough. Malkavian is best, though.
  7. Yeah, for something like that you might want to give context. What kind of character says this and when, and what he/she does when saying the line, and why he/she says it. But 五雷神君 appears to refer to five thunder gods (君 being used for higher beings, monarchs/rulers/badass people and such, Reinhard in Dies irae is described with it as well IIRC, and he's also a near-godlike dude), while 奉勅, according to its definition, is 勅命を奉じること (so this does indeed lend itself to a by the power of Greyskull interpretation, hilariously enough), the second part basically seems to imply some character is busting out an electric sword, since he/she is saying it holds the very essence of 歳星 (in this context, Zeus/Jupiter?). Edit: To clarify, the first part seems to invoke the authority of the thunder gods while in the second the character seems to manifest their power in his/her sword... I think. That's the best I can come up with without knowing anything about 11eyes or the context. So there you have it. I gave it a shot, at least.
  8. Those look pretty interesting indeed. Thanks a million for the recommendations, as usual.
  9. Your English is fine mate, better than some native speakers I've come across, haha. Welcome to the forums and enjoy your stay.
  10. So avoid IRC like the plague, OKAY GOT IT THANKS. Anyway welcome to the forums angel and enjoy your stay.
  11. Time to revive this I guess. I'm basically wondering if there are any decent space operas. Or just anything good that takes place in space/on spaceships/colonies or at least features those elements. Linguistic level: Doesn't matter. Stimulus: Honestly anything's fine. No-nos: When the protag is generally a horrible person. I will, however, stomach this if it serves a purpose. Other: 1) I'm kind of a sucker for colorful, eye-catching character/heroine designs, in particular the visual style of this VN seemed pretty cool. 2) You've already recommended Evolimit to me, so I'm aware of that. Thanks. And if you can't think of anything, just briefly share your thoughts on Daiteikoku, since vndb tells me you've already read that one.
  12. I'm not sure if I saw this posted, but http://www.tanos.co.uk/jlpt/ Overall a variety of resources on there but their JLPT vocab lists should be useful for those either preparing for the exam itself, or uncertain where exactly they should start with kanji / which kanji they should learn first, etc. I wrote this a while back, it's basically my view on kanji memorization along with a couple of tips from personal experience (part of it is related to the role of VNs and video games in the learning process). You may include it here or not, I leave it up to you. Figured I'd post it anyway for those interested. I've also used kotobank.jp and weblio.jp in the past. Might be worth a mention. I apologize for my poor eyesight in case any of the above has already been mentioned, I just skimmed the first post.
  13. Now, now. Let's not be so optimistic.
  14. Once they bring over Muramasa I'll like them.
  15. What I posted on reddit: "You should read the whole thing. Some might tell you to skip Extra or even Unlimited and go straight to Alternative, but I strongly recommend reading all of them from the start (in Extra you can just focus on the two main heroine routes and similarly, only do one route in Unlimited). It's gonna be worth it, and by the end you'll understand why the three stories form a complete whole and should be experienced that way." Extra is not optional IMO if you want to experience Takeru's character development in full.
  16. Interestingly enough, this is exactly when I go to VNs, because they're sort of a passive activity that doesn't require me to do anything other than just staring at a screen reading (as opposed to a video game that I have to actively play).
  17. That English really feels off to me, it doesn't seem very well written. That was my first impression. I'm assuming whoever writes the script (and the indiegogo page) is not especially proficient in the language. Not a good sign. I'm not saying it should be Shakespeare or anything but still, when you're dealing with a visual novel, the writing is pretty damn important.
  18. Well that was a fascinating introduction, you don't get to read those very often. Welcome, welcome.
  19. Btooom! might be another good choice. Just expect a very inconclusive ending for the anime because the manga is still ongoing.
  20. http://vndb.org/v12609 Just bringing this to your attention. January release and thankfully not another generic moege. Might be worth a look just for that. If you ever decide to play it I'd be curious to hear what you thought of it. Other one would be this http://vndb.org/v12455 But I'm sure you're already aware of it. February release though, so not relevant for this month yet.
  21. Ourai no Gahkthun, game seems shorter than expected based on the first 4 chapters. Also, Tesla and Neon are like the best VN main pair I've ever seen, I seriously can't get enough of their constant bickering, haha.
  22. Beat Crimson Shroud on 3DS, doing New Game+ now for the extra scenes and new ending. First playthrough wasn't very challenging so the raised difficulty of NG+ was a welcome change. Goddamn those skeleton archers in Chapter 2.
  23. Awesome. Just tested it myself for a bit and it works fine. This *would* be awesome for a fan translation project, although as it was pointed out above, the game is pretty much in JAST's hands, so... yeah.
  24. What Albedo said. It's anything but a "true" happy ending. It's bittersweet at best, all the friends you had in MLA are dead, and the Takeru at the end enjoying life in the altered Extra world is not exactly the same Takeru you followed through 3 games iirc. It's a pretty depressing ending to be quite honest, if you think about it a little bit.
