  1. Flutterz's voice is sex, no homo. Anyway, thanks, that was pretty interesting to listen to, although I haven't read many of the VNs you guys talked about. I agree that everyone needs to play 999, though.
  2. I really like Kara no Shoujo's OST, some of the tracks are just super chill. My favorite would have to be this one: I also adore Dies Irae's tracks, especially the vocal ones like Uber den Himmel, Jubilus or Einsatz. But there are some really good non-vocal BGMs as well, my favorites are probably " AHIH ASHR AHIH" and "Walhall". I'm too lazy to link the rest but they're all on Youtube.
  3. Mystery, Life and Death Drama, Homicide/Bloody Scenes, Combat Capable Friends/Fighting Heroine/Protagonist.
  4. If by Growlanser you mean Wayfarer of Time, then I've played that and it's pretty good. It's also a really long game, like 50-60 hours.
  5. Finished Euphoria, thought it was okay overall, but not quite worthy of all the overblown hype.
  6. Hm? You may have misunderstood my post. I was saying how I'm personally against having third-person speech in English. I'm also not a big fan of honorifics, and in my own translations, I actually do substitute them with the person's first name like you have mentioend, because that's how normally people speak in English. Well, I guess now you know not to read anything I translate, haha. =P Man, I'm so good at self-promotion.
  7. Saya no Uta and tell them it's a love story (not a lie). Chuckle as they're scarred for life. Kidding aside, I agree with Phoenix Wright being a good entry VN, partly for its gameplay segments. I've seen too many people being outraged by Analogue on Steam because it didn't have any gameplay. However, for people that might be into anime but are bored of so many moe shows, something like Saya might, in fact, be a good recommendation, just to show them what it's like to really dive into the dark side. Depends on the person.
  8. In Japanese it's sort of a cute thing, but it doesn't quite work that well in English in my opinion. I really don't like it when translators do this, but that's just me.
  9. I watched the first two seasons of the show, thought it was fine. Don't really care for this VN, though, I may be overly skeptical but I doubt it will be really outstanding. Yes, the MC is the rock.
  10. Huh, interesting. I'll keep an eye on this one. Although it may be sort of an exaggeration to say that these are the people that "made" Snatcher, since Snatcher was written/directed by Kojima. All I see here is a translator, a composer and an artist. =P
  11. Nice to meet you, and welcome. Just out of curiosity, what are you studying at your university?
  12. The thread title alone caught my attention, so mission accomplished on that front. =P Welcome to the forums! Big fan of Ace Attorney and 999 myself, got Virtue's Last Reward as well but I haven't quite gotten around to starting it just yet. I blame my backlog.
  13. Sometimes it's fun to be excited about stuff (like the new Xeno game on Wii U, etc.) but I don't go overboard with it. And I try not to rely on the word "masterpiece" too often. With hype I try my best to always remain skeptical a little bit, and yeah, I can be disappointed when something doesn't live up to my expectations. I still enjoyed Eustia very much and it's among my favorites, but I genuinely thought it would be kamige-tier... and it really wasn't. I'm in a similar situation with Euphoria right now. I have *very* high expectations for the story after reading some reviews. After two and a half routes done I'm still not seeing what the big deal is, but if the story structure is anything like 999 there's still very much time for it to get epic in the true route, and that would redeem it in my eyes, sorta.
  14. Been messing around with Summon Night 5 on the PSP. It's nothing special but I find the characters kinda charming for some reason, which keeps me playing. The female main character in particular is adorbs as fuck.
  15. For a few seconds I thought you would go on about the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, haha. Anyway, I have quite a long history with English. It's not my native language, but I've been mistaken for a native speaker several times during the past couple of years -- mainly based on my writing, of course, since I do have an accent when I speak, so it becomes quite apparent that I wasn't exactly born and bred in the US of A. I honestly made very little effort in English classes during my high school years. I was that guy that just sat around bored out of his mind because my English was already at a level where nothing the teacher could throw at me would be challenging. When people ask me how I got to this level, I say video games with zero hesitation. And that's true. If it weren't for being a geek I wouldn't be where I am today with English, so I guess that's one argument for the idea that constant exposure to a language will have a positive effect in some shape or form. The same applies to the second foreign language I know, which is Japanese. I had a very clear goal in mind when I started taking classes, plus a time limit as well (long story, but I had to take a Japanese exam roughly equivalent to JLPT N3 before a certain date to be able to get my diploma; thankfully I passed on my first try, so all the work paid off), so that in itself was a bit stressful. But while some people are broken under pressure, I found that it motivated me like crazy. I did work my ass off, sure, but my teacher was genuinely surprised by how fast I improved and got the hang of certain things. Again, I cannot help but think that the 8-ish years of watching anime and being exposed to the language had a part to play in that. Especially since I crashed and burned with the third language I attempted, which was Spanish, a language that I had no such background with. I'm not sure if this is what you wanted to hear or if it even makes sense but there you have it.
  16. I've been playing Euphoria, finished Rika's route (it wasn't very good honestly, and answered absolutely nothing) and currently doing Natsuki's route. So far it's nothing special but I'm guessing this is just a slow buildup to the mindfuck that apparently happens in later routes. At least I hope so. I'd hate to be disappointed after all the hype I've seen for this game.
  17. DS -- all of the Ace Attorney games, 999 Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors, Time Hollow 3DS -- Ace Attorney Dual Destinies, Virtue's Last Reward, Hakouki (otome) PSP -- Fate/Extra is kinda of a visual novel, it has VN-like narration and was written by the original author PSOne -- Snatcher
  18. No, no, he must listen to the BGM. He must. How else would he appreciate this, then? Anway I finished Ourai no Gahkthun a while back so now it's back to finishing up Kei's route in Dies Irae.
  19. Difficult Japanese in itself wouldn't scare me away, but I'm really, really not good with sci-fi, physics and all that stuff. Knowing myself I'll still give it a shot eventually, though. Just not right now.
  20. Thank you for the support! If you happen to find someone to help, do let me know. And yeah, we're making decent progress, but this font problem has been a major pain in the ass for the longest time now.
  21. Hi there. Myself and another person I've met on Youtube (he goes by the name JamRules) are working on an English translation for Sol Trigger, a JRPG for the PSP, and we're looking for help with the project. The main issue we have is with the game's font, which, after insertion, looks something like this: Pretty ugly, right? We're basically looking for someone who could potentially help with fixing this issue with the width/space between characters. The relevant information (and file) has already been posted by JamRules over here. I would also recommend reading the posts following that one, just to see what others have suggested and what has been done since. If you think you can help after looking at the link above, you can either post in that thread or contact me directly via email, private message or just a post here. Any help would be very much appreciated. Edit: Some progress has been made since I wrote this, but we still need assistance with the font. Please check the latest posts in that gbatemp thread for the details. I'm aware the game in question isn't a visual novel at all, so I apologize if you clicked on the thread looking for something along those lines. I did ask for permission from Tay before posting here, despite this being a place mostly aimed at VNs. We originally looked for help over at gbatemp, since that's where most like-minded people are, but unfortuantely we couldn't find anyone with the time to lend us a hand, which is what brought me to Fuwa. For those interested, here's a quick introductory video about the game itself:
  22. Bradyon Veda, and as far as English localizations are concerned, Kara no Shoujo 2 because I want to see the English community's reaction to its True End. I'm preparing popcorn in advance.
  23. I would assume it's fairly optimized. My PC isn't high end by any means (Phenom II x4 965 3.8Ghz with a GTX 650 Ti Boost) and it runs beautifully in 1920x1080. Solid 60 fps most of the time.
