Girl of the Bakehouse is ~4 hours of reading. It's the first story in what would eventually become the Girls Frontline franchise. So, it's one of the most influential VNs that no one has ever heard of before.

Try reading the Ln or the web novel.  So far it is pretty close to the web novel, with the exception of skipping over a lot of the school life shit.  The details that includes will fill in the characters to an extent.  As for Delta and the others, you don't really get to know them until later in the story.  Alpha and Beta are the ones who have the most 'screen time' in the story, with Ipsilon coming to life pretty late in the story.  Delta is really simple (literally simple)... she's basically a wolf to the bone.  If you can beat her up, she's submissive, if you lose to her, she dominates you.  Her main interests are food and killing.

Greener Pastures is a schlocky monster girl harem dating sim... that's surprisingly well-written. You can get the game itself here (for free!)

This is the most bonkers Osu! play I can think of. It may not seem like much if you've never played before but these patterns are unbelievably difficult to read. No to mention difficult to hit even if you can read them. 1:18 through the end of the song is utter insanity.

My guess would be that the engine looks at the name of the character who is speaking in the script, and then searches for that name in a list of character speaking animations that is stored somewhere else. If it cannot find an entry in the list called "Chinami." then it just won't play anything. If I'm right, you'll have to hunt for a list of these speaking animations and make sure the entries match the romaji names you are using in your translation. It might be at the bottom of the script you're working on, or it might be its own separate text file. It might also just be searching in a folder of speaking animations by name, but that seems less likely to me.
Or I could be totally wrong about all of this, who knows?

tahu157 got a reaction from Zalor in What are some things you hate about romantic EVNs nowadays?
I find a lot of EVN romance goes 0 to 60 in 3.5. Like, they'll have a few normal, mundane conversations and then suddenly *BAM* they're soulmates. I realize the EVN scene is relatively young and as such tends towards shorter script lengths, and so the real estate available to develop a romance is limited. Even so, I think it's very doable to have a short but well-paced romance arc. But there's gotta actually be an arc, not this spike in the graph thing.

Both Switch and PS4 are region free though. I got the Switch version and I guess this will be my first time running a foreign region game on it, but I don’t anticipate any issues.

tahu157 got a reaction from VernonZirconKitsune in Will Anyone From America or Europe Make a Quality Visual Novel with a Black Protagonist ?
I'm curious about something. This time around your stated goal is to have a character that looks like you that you can self-insert with. Why ask for black protagonist instead of a "dark-skinned Asian from SEA" whose skin tone is /exactly/ like yours? iirc in your previous threads you had asked for black representation in a way that made it sound like a charity project you were running on behalf of black people. Was that always a ploy to get a character that looks at least tangentially like you and not actually a way to increase black representation in VNs? As in, maybe you thought a black protagonist VN had a better shot at getting made than a "dark-skinned Asian from SEA" VN, so you asked for that and you figured the Venn-diagram overlap was good enough for your self-inserting needs? That's my theory about this saga.
Please don't these threads are actually very interesting.

I've definitely seen map movement and events tied to a time of day before in Ren'py. E.g Lucky Paradox (NSFW link btw). The scripts in that game are pretty easy to get to with Garbro if you want to try to dissect them. Implementing the system is probably just a big series of variables compared against if statements though.

tahu157 reacted to Tasuke in Anime Fan for 25 years (since 1995)
actually, technically, a good while longer, since i vaguely recall sitting through an episode of ROBOTECH  as a very young boy around what must have been sometime in 1986 or so.
a nephew gave me his old 1985 REVELL ROBOTECH CHANGERS VEXAR transformable model (U.S. market reboxing of 1983 IMAI MACROSS VF-1S Focker 1/72 VARIABLE TYPE)
around 1988/1989 or so, and then i got a taste of Mecha Anime tropes at a more readily-impressionable age around 1991,
thanks to the Mecha action-platfomer game "ASSAULT SUIT LEYNOS" (TARGET EARTH in the U.S.) on the SEGA GENESIS games console.
my Anime fandom truly began to consciously coalesce around 1995, when my dad bought me an old IMAI MACROSS 1/100 VF-1J Ichijo GERWALK mode model kit,
and PLAYMATES toy company reissued the old original MATCHBOX-made ROBOTECH Mecha toys under their "EXO-SQUAD" line.
around that time, i discovered SUNCOAST VIDEO at the mall, and their Anime selection. first i concentrated on ROBOTECH, -via the dual-episode FHE VHS cassette volumes-
found VIZ MEDIA's ANIMERICA Anime magazine, and began picking up issues often as i could,
and then i discovered MANGA VIDEO's MACROSS II and MACROSS PLUS movie compilation releases, Pure, uncut MACROSS, for the first time.
from there, i began to branch out from Mecha-themed anime, with series such as Galaxy Fraulein Yuna and Tenchi Muyo!
and then the early-21st-century and the DVD Anime boom hit, and i was well and truly off to the Anime Races.

i'm about as hardcore today as i've ever been, and, thanks to the internet, i now have the kind of Mecha and Character-themed merchandise
that i would have killed for as a young teen, two-plus decades ago...

I feel like I've seen far more posts from Ange and Pik_Lesiak that would inform me about them than I have from Clephas, and yet I scored far better on Clephas than the other two. It's possible that the difficulty of questions was way different per quiz too. Like, I literally have no idea how you're supposed to know what Ange's favorite food is because I've never seen that topic come up here. Unless maybe that's a Discord thing idk.

tahu157 got a reaction from Emi in Sony backtracks, will no longer be closing the PS3 and Vita online stores
I'm sure you've all seen but everyone was super upset with Sony for announcing the shut down the PS3, Vita, and PSP stores which was gonna happen in July and August I think. Well, they just backtracked on that and have announced that they will keep the PS3 and Vita stores open "for the foreseeable" future. The PSP store will still be closing as scheduled but to me that's less impactful than either of the other two.

So, I guess I get to keep access to Alice: Madness Returns now, which is the only game I've ever bought on PSN.

tahu157 reacted to Zalor in VNDB has inconsistent standards of what's considered a Visual Novel
I agree that those types of games and VNs can both be lumped under the broader category of Interactive Fiction, but I wouldn't call them Visual Novels. I think reading is a critical component for anything to be considered novelistic.
