Zakamutt got a reaction from Lukaku in Data extraction thread
It's possible this exists somewhere else but I couldn't find it: something that can convert the BGI / Ethornell engine's sysgrp UI images to something you can work with. (target: senmomo). My searches brought me to xupefei's BGIKit, which had no binary releases, so I had to compile it myself (ok visual studio makes this easy actually). I'm not sure exactly what platforms these binaries will work on bar windows 64-bit, but at least you don't have to compile them yourself: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cy1SnLSQZ_rCW8H6AsD9SZDxZrUd7qtZ/view?usp=sharing
Only the sysgrp tool is tested and only from game format to .bmp, have fun. To use that, call the program from the command line (cmd.exe or powershell) with the path to the file to be converted to bmp / from bmp as the sole argument, or more concretely:
SysgrpConverter.exe filenamehere

Zakamutt got a reaction from Dergonu in Recruiting jp to en translators for vn or indies games on DLsite

1 yen per 1 character (depending on experience). Crediting as the translator of the product. Access to the original version of the products you are asked to translate. 0.9 cents per character, wonderful offer innit? Actually worse than sol press. Well maybe they actually pay
>
Required skills/experience ・ English: native with excellent writing and proofreading skills ・ Japanese: fluent (preferably JLPT N1 or equivalent) ・ Photoshop nice standards, but who would actually do the work for you at this skill level? Anyway I doubt they actually demand this for real, I've seen some dlsite translations...

Successful applicants will be required to submit a certificate of residency from the country they live in. This does not apply for applicants residing in Japan.
Why is this needed lol that's way too mendou, trying to filter for conscientiousness or what?

Zakamutt got a reaction from HMN in The Bare Minimum Required to Read Visual Novels in Japanese
Parsers are overly maligned; it doesn't actually matter unless you consciously decide to never even try to parse from game window yourself and only look at hooker output. If you are afraid you will become a true hookcuck, they may be slightly suboptimal.
source: I used only JParser for years
of course the way clephas speaks about them as providing "furigana" is overly imprecise and dumb, they provide a list of dictionary definitions. The furigana is generally the least accurate and most useless part
furthermore, there is no need to """master""" (did u know words mean things???) grammar; just get ok tier at basic grammar and refer back to your reference / an actual grammar reference
you caught me in a very shitposty mood enjoy

I think I hit several "directionally accurate" wrong answers in yours lol

Zakamutt got a reaction from HMN in Visual Novels similar to Katawa Shoujo's vibe

Zakamutt got a reaction from Vldislav in VN with strong females
Symphonic Rain (mostly 1 character)
Katawa Shoujo (shizune) (not that her route is great)
Sanzen Sekai Yuugi (punk'd! this is an otomege chuunige and the protagonist at one point goes on a bounty hunting killing spree because she's having difficulties dealing with her emotions. um.)
Spellbroken (request interpreted very broadly)

I'll take a look at it, since the engine itself is available as well that's kind of nice as it would make it a bit easier to reverse

Zakamutt reacted to Zalor in Digital Seclusion: A visual novel about visual novels [FREE]
Update: Version 1.20. is now out. @Zakamutt was the editor for this version and he helped a lot. This will likely be the final update to the VN. And if not the final, it is certainly the most significant update. The script has been thoroughly examined and polished of any errors. If any errors do remain they were either intentionally left in as a design decision, or my subconscious just really wants them there lol.

Zakamutt got a reaction from Dreamysyu in VN presentation take: mix between puppet plays and comic books?
To note regarding plays, there are plays that were primarily designed to be read, not acted: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closet_drama. In fact, the moderately well known Faust was originally written as one.

Zakamutt got a reaction from Zalor in Digital Seclusion: A visual novel about visual novels [FREE]
I think I have really high standards when it comes to purple prose. I want it to be tight as fuck, or it just makes me cringe ever so slightly. Overall, it just felt a lot like jamming unusual words where they did not quite fit, rather than using them as a valid alternative to something more pedestrian. There are also some more consistent phrasing issues like lack of commas, a fair bunch of inexplicable semicolons that should be colons or changed to something else, &c. I'm half inclined to actually try to edit this, though who knows if I'd complete anything. The sections that IMO need the most attention aren't that long, so it's at least plausible. I will say, the typo in this one definitely didn't help me take it seriously.
(I would instinctively go for a word that actually works with the physical image of a root, such a severed — though really, it would be cool to rephrase it like idk... Longing is easier to manage once its origin has been safely divorced from your reality.)

...is this purposely written with a lot of typos and general fuckiness? The vibe a few screens in is good, the prose not so much
EDIT:
well, I got 1/1 ends, I guess
The prose gets better once you stop trying to be pretentious, though there are stil la few pain points probably partly caused by a lack of proofreading. The atmosphere is great, and I appreciated the history-of-vns part of it (it's certainly nostalgic to see titles I too have played...). The presentation is great, so my only real complaint is the unpolished writing.
