  1. As long as the vn actually maintains its aspect ratio, it's actually not that bad to have it sized up a bit. However, sometimes I really wish they had a setting to preserve the original window size but fullscreen it with black all around it in the middle of the screen. As for my graphic quality list... I'd say G-senjou no Maou wins out; that's one of the 800x600 vns though afaik. Analogue: a Hate Story also had pretty good graphics (that said most of it was interface anyway, but the sprites were really good) and was sharp even at 1920x1200. Honorable mention goes to Symphonic Rain, which was also 800x600 but had a really unique and pretty artstyle.
  2. Why hello there! This thread shall be my blog, and shall both be an opportunity to sesquipedalianize my writing and detail the trials and tribulations of the Supah Challenge. A week-something ago I realized that the challenge had potential. After some wavering, and a frenzied but ultimately unsuccessful search for the sixth edition RtK 1 online, I decided I would be a cool bro and scan it for upload... oh, and it could be cool to actually use too, so I bought it online like a boss. After waiting merely a week for its arrival, I set to my schedule: I would study at 22.00 each day for around an hour. I chose to do 34 kanji a day, as the first and second lesson combined had that many kanji. Previous experience include learning all the kana from Ixrec's guide (using mnemonics that aren't completely different from stories, in a way - み was midget, incidentally), and a few Kanji/compounds learnt from radical lookups and similar. On the first day, my workload was comparatively light; I had the advantages of knowing near all the lesson 1 kanji, and the lesson 2 kanji were very easy to remember in general. The only real issue was me writing stuff at the wrong sizes and orientations, which got unacceptably out of hand. However, that just meant doing it again while reviewing, so it was mostly alright. On the second day, god five mouths / nose over/between eye slept. Yes, I was tired as fuck all day and actually fell asleep laptop on chest at around ten. While I was tired as fuck, I did decide to at least review some old kanji. Which turned out to be a massive 4. Today, I woke up at 7am, feeling just as tired as the last day. This malaise slowly subsided, and at around 15.00 I managed to get 34 new kanji in as planned (I ws not at all sure I'd be in working condition at 22.00). I note that this took quite a long time as I experienced it, but not unbearably so. I also did this with a significant amount of auditory and other distractions around me for part of it, which was not the best thing to happen ever. Getting these kanji in was significantly more difficult; some of the stories were somewhat... lacking - some I constructed my own stories for, I think. With all that said, I still remember everything after some Anki usage, as far as I can tell. The Anki deck seems to be slightly off; post a bill (a kanji which had a pretty difficult story, but I spent enough time obsessing over that I'll probably remember it anyway) did not appear and two kanji that I weren't at yet did. That said, those kanji (deca...what the hell ten days and ladle) had extremely easy stories, and I just memorized them quickly. We'll see if I continue a slightly more haphazard way of scheduling my learning at this point until I feel confident I won't be messed up at 22.00 or not, and whether it will work. On day five, I will probably also experiment with using multiple learning sessions per day - this likely has its disadvantages, but will increase my speed (I'll aim for 50 a day, probably). Motivation: medium. Able to resume after 1 day of no new kanji. Able to survive despite using a different time. 34 kanji per day workable. Well, this might well work out for me! I am mildly surprised.
  3. funfact: ~50% of female characters in wow have males playing them! http://www.nickyee.c...ives/001369.php And those men you speak of must be incredibly innocent
  4. I need a female name for female characters in games Given that my default gender for characters is female when I can, it's quite a useful thing to have.
  5. Just tried to play ep 1 using an asus memopad 10. At first it required me to update chrome... so i did. After that, the game loaded fine... except I can't press login for whateer reason, making the whole thing rather difficult. Probably an issue with the framework unhack is running in not playing nice with touch input...
  6. Various things to note: first of all, if you wish to go it alone the hint corners are useful, and probably enough. Second, could mention that side stories are selected from a UI element and (mostly) unrelated to the main story - though admittedly this is quite easy to see in the interface itself. Third, the only ero I saw was in the Flower of Thanatos sidestory, in case you're interested in avoiding it (the story content in that one is debatable as well). I didn't quite see all scenes though, so take that with a grain of salt.
  7. Long ago my name was Zoma, which... I'm not even sure how I came up with it. It's pronounced approx ソウマ, however there should be a z at the start preferably. Later... I was making up character names for this old, old MMORPG called Jerrath. My original character, a shaman, was of course Zoma. However, I wanted more characters of course. I created what I think was a thief with the name of "Zaka 0_0". "Sucka" might have been related. That was not all, however! Later on, a new class (I think) came around, called Miners! Miners looked a bit shabby / covered with coal dust. I wished to use the Zaka- stem... "mangy dog"... Zakamutt! So yes you should fellate a canine. Otherwise, my go-to female name is Salita, which I made for a Secret of Mana 2 character when I played it emulated a long time ago. Apparently it's not necessarily female, and there's this boxer called Dmitry Salita... But hey, I like it.
  8. You may or may not have noticed me whine over there not being any pirateable sixth edition RtK1 on the nets on TS, but anyway one buy and like a week later the book has finally arrived at my doorstep. I've read through the introduction so far and will probably check through the 15 introductory kanji. Main studying will be set to 22.00 after medicine administration, though. This is the one habit I have to do every day, and I should get it down better anyway. I look forward to my blog post on the third day, as I have a tendency to write long and rambly...
  9. There's an urban legend in town that has recently resurfaced about a strange man. He //wears a grey hat, but his face is incredibly difficult to remember//. The man is very pleasant, but when you part with him you will invariably realize your pockets have been picked, with //white stones// placed there instead. It's said that he only appears during //whenever your vn is timewise// for some reason. Who could this man be, if he's not just a legend? //extra flexible//
  10. Alright. * Suddenly getting thrown into a strange dimension where the hallway or road you're on repeats without end, unable to escape until some random thing you do lets you. * A mysterious forest allegedly filled with monsters. * A conspiracy to regulate people with superpowers... I promise these are all original
  11. Military Action Battlecall of Dutyfield 4 I don't think I have to describe this. I've already played it and prolly wont play it more though. Using a pirated working version, ofc
  12. I'm about to start Hoshimemo now. Apart from the video files issue, which I'll probably be entertained by solving if it comes up, Steve says there aren't any tricky things about route preference or stuff to mess with me. Excellent! And a good change from Aoishiro...
  13. Nice new eps In ep 5 the Weedy-holding-doll sprite blocks a letter (I) from being displayed in the box, might wanna check that out. You're currently maintaining a good amount of difficulty (I have a shitty mouse which might be part of why I tend to need to play each ep 3x to succeed ). Much more and it would probably be frustrating, given that you mostly play to reach the text (if you're me).
  14. I certainly do, my name is Zakamutt. Send me a friend invite (but please make it clear who the hell you are somehow) if you wish.
  15. I wouldn't recommend KnS due to the absolute need for a walkthrough to not get over 9000 bad ends, seriously I deviated like 1 choice or two from a walkthrough and got the first bad end, over and over... And skipping is painful as they are intelligent enough to not stop voices from playing, raping your ears...
  16. I love how your rewrite - visual novel - the beginnign is a LoL video
  17. Started May Sky. I don't know whether it's Seung Parker's style when TLing or something, but the language is pretty poetic - not too much, though. I wonder whether this is a TL quality thing or a VN type thing...
  18. If I had a mildly stable income, I'd probably pick up Kira Kira. I've read it before, it's decently priced, and it wasn't just released after a perfectly good fantl was out (saya no uta is really cheap though, apparently). Otherwise, maybe Higurashi if I get to reading it, 999 (I don't actually own a DS, so it feels a bit strange but still...), and yes, the PW games.
  19. Finished reading LEAVEs yesterday, feel it's a bit underrated on vndb but criticisms of it are valid. Personally liked what happens at the very end the most, actually, despite it making others rage... Started up on Aoishiro now. The translator might have needed a more zealous / more existing editor given his tendency to not translate stuff like "etto" (yeah, you will probably know what it means, but still...) and similar. Apparently they couldn't hack it that well, so a lot of UI elements are only translated in some included pictures... Oh well. Otherwise it's quite interesting. Lots of japanese mythology (not sure how much of it is accurate, though).
  20. Well, shiratori's route sucks... Kanon's is ok. Umm, nevermind... well yes you can just do that it will work out.
  21. What Tsukihime anime? There is no anime.
  22. After reading The Dandy Girl (http://vndb.org/v3249), I realized adaptations can be pretty good. What do you think about it, and what stories would you adapt? Personally when I read The Hunger Games I felt that it could be reconstructed quite effectively as a VN; it's already in first person narrative and the general style of the text feels compact. Branching could be used pretty well too.
  23. Rewrite might be a decent option, in my opinion. It's not that long if you count individual routes, and the common route is quite funny for most people. If you do decide to read it, Kotori first!1 Otherwise, I agree with Saya no Uta. For a more esoteric suggestion, the 30-min KN The Dandy Girl www.weeaboo.nl/2012/11/review-the-dandelion-girl/ (a short story adaptation) might be interesting (read comments for d/l link. It's freeware, but the current mediafire page is down).
  24. After finally finishing Swan Song, which took way too long for various reasons, I finished up Dandy Girl today as well given that it's only 30 mins long. Recommended. I've downloaded a bunch of stuff from insani, so I figure I'll try them out. A few shorter vns will be a nice change of pace, really.
  25. For what it's worth, the TvTropes vn forum is a fairly nice place. Not that active, though.
