As everyone already know, MoeNovel released crippled EN version of popular in Japan game Kono Oozora ni, Tsubasa wo Hirogete.
Both translation quality and removal of significant portion of game provide substandard experience to EN auditory, not worth the money they ask for it.

So here comes our project to fix at least some of these problems.

    First patch released!

    Notes for patch:
    1. Japanese locale needed!
    2. On Windows 7/8 you have to install game OUTSIDE of Program Files directory or use fixed bat files!

    3. One 100-lines script on Ageha route missed QC and editor there used [] instead proper quotes for spoken lines, fix is here: http://rghost.net/47445403 (Just replace old one in game folder with this file)

Next stage: QC everything, do TLC on MN part of route scripts, fix bugs with first patch. ETA for release: end of July, but obviously sooner if anything serious is spotted with first patch.

Still looking for more QC and TLC volunteers.

Regarding FanTL rights, I don't think I ever saw any kind of license on TLWiki or statement that could work as license, so no, technically they neither did "give" it to anyone, nor allowed to use it or keep it or redistribute it. Copyright requires explicit statements about any kind of transfer of rights.
This research doesn't apply to undeveloped small-scale markets like translated VNs. Moreover music itself is entirely different business, with entirely different model of money flow.Piracy is doing very severe damage to VN sales, as known on example of MG releases. Once game is uploaded you-know-where, sales plunge to 0. If its not uploaded for several days, all that time sales keep high. So yes, people will buy VNs if no other options are available, and will pirate if pirating is possible, because of how this particular market is structured.

Cannot speak for everyone, but personally I just didn't like KonoSora. Some routes in FD are worth reading (Ageha's sister, Kanako), but I have much more important and fun project going already (Ikusa Megami Zero), which is light-years ahead in terms of story.Plus KonoSora project itself isn't over yet, there's Sweet Love remaining to tl.
No, implication here is that you will never be able to read some of best VNs otherwise and will be doomed to never see what some other brilliant VN authors writing is like, suffering through random someone's "reinterpretation".Not everyone learns japanese, but serious VN fans do.

As for "in few months" vs "3 years and still can't read VN". As I said, "learning to read VNs" is different from learning language. My approach, which was quite successful for me, was to extract text from 30 VNs, and then build frequency dictionaries based on these texts. I was learning only vocab used in VNs and in order of popularity. On average, I am doing 20 new cards (10 new words, since I use 2 cards per note) per day in anki, thats 1800 words in 6 months.
Natural languages have interesting property that while vocab is quite big, only very small fraction of words are used often. For example, KonoSora uses 14943 words, but 1800 words you could learn in 6 months constitute 75% of text. FD is much easier, since there's not so much aviation terminology.
For very simple games like Hanahira, even 1000 words is about 80% of text.

Edit: corrected numbers, used wrong file first time which also contained n-grams.

Also, just executed little experiment. If you select 1800 random words instead most frequent ones, you get only 8%+-1.5% (I've did 100 runs) of text covered with them. So learning vocab w/out focus on VNs (and better particular VN you want to read) is pretty much useless in short term, you will see results only in 2-3 years (about 60% at 3 years of random study, still worse than 6 months of focused study).

I've became fan of the medium primarily due to lack of restrains and taboos in stories.
Saya no Uta managed to transgress pretty much every taboo of modern entertainment industry (and I don't mean purely moral stuff — this includes concept of "bad ends", which aren't just simple "game over" screens but deep stories which try to convey protag's feeling of despair to you), and I immediately started seeking more of that.
For most VN writers there's no editors or publishers above them who tell them what is acceptable and what isn't, they just write it the way they want.

Well, I can extract strings from them if its relatively new version of engine (my tools confirmed to work with versions since 400, and confirmed to NOT work with 2xx versions). Version is in header of each ybn file, next 4 bytes after "YSTB".

Ageha was already cleaned up, but most likely we will not release separate update for her, so its better to delay her route. There's nothing important story-wise in it, and its not needed to unlock other routes.

Honestly, I can't understand just this one thing. For some reason some people believe they're entitled to get fan translated games. Get them translated as they like and not those who translate it. This is very strange.

RusAnon got a reaction from Katatsumuri in What is your favorite type of VN heroine, and why?
Interaction with protag matters much more than archetype for me, and pretty much every archetype can be played good, but if I'd have to choose, I'd go with Yamato Nadeshiko type. Esp. ones which combine strength, strictness and reservedness with feminine and cute sides.

Best example Uesugi Kenshin (http://vndb.org/c2859) from Sengoku Rance. In her shy-mode she is irresistibly cute.
Also, Mitsurugi Meya (MLU/MLA), Kan'u Unchou (Koihime Musou).

Other two archetypes worth mentioning are "Arrogant Ojousama" and "Modern Tsundere", because most of the time I cannot tolerate their presence in novel and just ctrl through their lines, but they also can be played right (for example, Mare isn't that bad even tho she's abusive and tsun). If protag is not some hetare shit and actually got balls, arrogant heroines become good comedy relief characters, like Yuuji x Yumiko in Grisaia.

Appearances are much easier to rank: kemonomimi; twintails; meido uniforms; slim, petite body; gothic/lolita fashion suits. Kuroneko in her nekomimi mode is best example.

And out of categories, just ranking heroines alone: Saya and Makina, two best eroge girls ever.

No MLA, SnY or Grisaia? No KID novels? Thats quite weird selection.
Also, KiraKira? Its slightly-above-average, but hard to see why it would be in this list, its no better than, say, Quartett or Period.

There's good reason which is stated on VNDB FAQ: these games are not novels, so obviously they have no place on novels database.

I can agree that it would be useful to have similar "jap games" database or something like that, but its silly to demand vndb to be it. Anyone can use vndb code to run his own db with whatever inclusion criterias he wants.

I dont care about C&Ds, and advertising this could actually let people know we are working on restoring scenes, so they may delay reading the game.
Plus maybe some more people would volunteer to do translating, and speed it up.

Well, sure we can release it in several stages, first restoring scenes and CG back, and then doing proper work on other text.
Just have to make sure people know that both original MN's tl and restored one would be inferior and still having some parts of text censored.
