How do I change my computer to Japanese Encoding?
    If you use Windows 10:
    1. Go to the Control Panel
    2. Click on Region
    3. Click on the Administrative tab
    4. Click on Change System Locale
    5. Select Japanese (Japan) from the drop-down
    If you use Windows 8:
    1. Go to the Control Panel
    2. Click on Clock, Language and Region then Region
    3. Click on the Administrative tab
    4. Click on Change System Locale
    5. Select Japan (Japanese) from the drop-down

    If you use Windows 7:
    1. Go to the Control Panel
    2. Click on Clock, Language and Regions
    3. Click the Administrative tab and under “Language for Non-Unicode Programs", hit the Change System Locale button then select Japanese from the drop-down menu.
    4. Click OK. You should be prompted to Restart your computer once done.

If you use Windows XP, you’ll need the operating system CD:
    1. Go to the Control Panel
    2. Click on Regional and Language Options
    3. Click the Advanced tab and under the “Language for non-Unicode Programs", select Japanese from the drop-down menu.
    5. Click OK. You’ll get a prompt asking whether to use existing files or to install from your OS CD. If this is your first time doing this you probably don’t already have the files so you’ll need to install them. From there just follow the instructions on the screen.

    Hey everyone,

As some of you know, my health has been very bad lately. Ive just had a major health scare (just had 20th surgery) and I need to reevaluate whats most important. Because of this, I am stepping down as Forum Director. I had a great long impassioned speech typed out but realized that its not necessary. The admin/mods here are wonderful and I know that everything will stay as it is... Awesome. I love this forum and have made a bunch of friends here which makes me very happy. Ill still be lurking about, but no longer as an Admin. I have decided to finish my History of Anime project that I have been considering for months. This seems like a great chance to do that.

Thank you to everyone for making this community great. I look forward to talking anime and just hanging out with you guys.

    THANK YOU,
    Ryoji

I use xdcc, torrents (sites like AnimeBytes or Nyaa), and then stream from sites like Crunchyroll since I have membership. If there's something I don't have and I don't want to download it, KissAnime is a great site. They offer 720p streaming, no ads, free downloads, and even a choice between using Flash player or HTML5! (Works great on stuff like my iPad )

KnightFire reacted to Steve in A 'Help Me' Thread, with relation to Visual Novels
dear torbin, I am glad you called hentai help line, we might be able to help you

Anyways, the thing is all-ages VNs have different structure over the ones that have H. It is not only about the one scene at the end or middle or whenever.

I haven't played that many to make it a rule but from what I've played, All-ages VNs tend to lack all sorts of sexual references, sexual talk, dark mature themes such as drugs, alcohol, rape and other forms which can be used as a great tool for character development.

And often (not always) they lack the one part that some of us westerners like in the VNs or how we call them Dating Sims - that being the actual dating. What is a dating sim without the dating - a story. And it can be hell of a good story, yet for me and maybe it is the same with you, it is not nearly enough.
Now it is not always true but then again you can see why not, I would take example of Little Busters - originally all-ages but due to demand, EX version was made with H-scenes (I will leave the quality of those scenes aside, some like it, some don't, its not important). The important part is that LB was structured as a game that would be great with H-scenes and that's why it wasn't that hard to add them. And as I already mentioned somewhere else, I actually played the H scenes from JP EX installation after finishing the girl's route. And I think the H fit there very well, especially with my favorite Kud route - there was a lot of romancing and blushing, the stuff I like about VNs, there was the dating which represented the dating sim name.

And then on the other hand you can take stuff like Ever 17, where I only played a single route and can't just like you bring myself to finishing it - I played the Sara route (obviously I choose the youngest looking girl there is xD), it was good, but no kiss, no romance, no blushing, no dating - ofc it was good but I would have to ask myself, wouldn't it be better as anime or a KN with maybe different chapters? For me it would. If I look at the mentioned Planetarian, it is a great story with great character, but it is short, it is like 4 hours kinetic experience with no choices. It doesn't need dating. If you have short story focused anime (like Madoka or something), it doesn't need dating, it is about story.

And thats also where the VN community splits, some are looking for a great story to read, they prefer reading with pictures maybe, instead of watching moving anime in that case - and those are the people who like only all-ages releases. But they would probably like chapter based kinetic novels as well if they were made that way. The choices are more like "what chapter do you want to read first". But then again they just might want to have some more control over the story and have it interactive - and whats why there is some market for all-ages VNs even in Japan.

Where as what I consider a good VN is a good dating sim, a simulation where the choices I make let me get closer to the girl I love, and the ultimate goal is that you get so close, you are practically inside her
And that's where the importance of H comes in - you could do without it if there was tons if kissing and blushing and a bed scene without H and the sex only mentioned - just like it can be in any other form of media we know, where it is romance based but it is not actually a porn - yet the thought of having sex is there. In Japanese VNs, they had the great idea - why not just make it all the way, including the sex scene as a part of the game - and it worked, it is unique. But it also needs to be marked 18+.

So again, for me and lot of others, it is dating sim genre, and just like in any other sim you use the simulation part to reach the state that you would reach in real life - in train sim you reach your destination after controlling the train so I expect in dating sim you reach one of the goals of dating - being the sex from love with the girl. In all-ages VN you could have the sex mentioned or implied, like in games like mass effect - but then since the genre is already developed like that, they can as well just make it 18+ and add the H scene there and make more money - that's why most all-ages VNs don't have much dating or dating related stuff like long kissing scenes and if they do, people will often tell you the H is missing from those.

So yeah, you are not alone, I am struggling with Rewrite now too, it is great story with great characters, but it is more like a fairy tale, people like each other and they save each other from problems and help each other and enjoy being together but they don't do the stuff that couples do, kissing, sex and all that - well at least in the 2 routes I played do far.

So yeah, I hope it helps and you can see that most all-ages VNs are targeted at different kind if audience who just want (great) interactive story.
For people that want as its in English called dating sim or in Japanese called eroge - erotic game, for those there is plenty of those with H because it is mostly necessary part of the genre, brings more storytelling means and character development tools which are not possible without it.

I know this has been mentioned in some past threads, but they've all kind of died with time... Has anyone gotten these two visual novels to work on mobile properly (perhaps using the xClannad app on iOS/Android)? Besides Clannad that's worked perfectly for me so far, I haven't been able to get Little Busters to work (crashes when the game gets to the intro cutscene) or Kanon (crashes after the Key logo). Has anyone found any ways to play these on mobile? I realize that http://beta.kanononline.com/ exists, but you can't save with that..... Any ideas?

Huzzah! A Topic that I can finally contribute to! Well eclipse, that would really depend on what tablet you have.

    Windows RT Tablet
I have no idea, never owned one. But this might possibly work.

    Windows 8 Tablet
If it works, then you can play it (Win8 has some compatibility issues with other things, a lot of them having to do with engines that VN's are written on ex. kirikiri or rUGP)

    iOS (iPad)
There are some on the iTunes App Store. But not much
Some people also report using xclannad to play some Key games.
You could always use a VNC client (but if you did that, the games wouldn't actually be on your iPad)
Though it hasn't been updated since 2012, you could always try Almight

    Android
The largest selection after Windows tablets

Almight, again (though it really is useless)
The you have ppsspp, which is a psp emulator, but if you had psp iso's of VNs then you could play them through this theoretically.
VNDS which is an interpreter, it requires you to convert the game using converters foundhere. It started off as a DS reader, but then the dev decided to port it to android.
You could also use a VNC client
You could use ONScripter for Android or Habakiri to run ONScripter based (Higurashi, Umineko, Tsukihime, most older games) or Kirikiri (G Senjou no Maou, erm.. newer games)
    0m3ga engine
    Ren'py has an android option
There are also a lot of Visual Novels on Google Play.

    D.C and D.C.II

    And 恋姫夢想
    Trial version of 恋姫

    Kindle
    Put android on it.

    Hope this was helpful

Please read the disclaimer/other at the end

    What you need:

    1. A psp
    2. A microusb or a Memory Stick Duo Adaptor
    3. Software that can extract rar files
    4. Converted games (you need to own the game first)

    Steps:

    1. Download ONScripter for Psp - Here
    2. Extract the files, you should see something like below:

    3. Connect your psp to your computer
    4. Create a folder in Psp\game called ONS

    5. Go back to the extracted onscripter-20110111_psp folder and click on the "ONS" folder, you should see something like below:

    6. Copy the EBOOT.PBP and the ons.ini files and paste them into psp\GAME\ONS

    7. Open a game (legally obtained)
    8. Locate 3 files and copy them into the same directory as EBOOT.PBP

Arc.nsa or arc.sar (these files have all the sprites, backgrounds and voices, sometimes music)
0.txt or nscript.dat (this file has the story, and has instructions pertaining to music and voices)
default.ttf (font, if your game doesn't have one, I think any will do.)

IF your game has separate music, it would be a good idea to copy that over as well
Create another folder called CD inside it and place the music in there (should be in .ogg or .mp3)

    9. After copying, your folder should look like this:

    10. Put memory stick back into psp
    11. Turn psp on
    12. Go to games
    13. Press X on ONSCRIPTER for PSP 20110111
    (hopefully no crashes here)

    Disclaimer/other:

    1. This is an older version of ONScripter (I think, not too sure)
    2. ONScripter website
    3. This is actually a rather crude method, because I don't know how to load more then one game at a time.
    4. If you intend on playing ONScripter based games, they need to be resized, I don't know how to do that (have an android tablet with a high enough native resolution )

    Original games:

what happens when you fail to resize them:

    5. I think this EBOOT is actually signed, so non cfw might be able to run it
    6. the DDL link is NOT the original, it is a reupload by me because I was unable to find the original one.
    7. I think my psp has B10 CFW (if you wanted to know, last time I checked, I could use PSN with B10 CFW)

    -EDIT-
Erm... I don't really know what engine what games run on aside from a select few, you will have to ask around for romance stories.

KnightFire reacted to solidbatman in Crunchyroll Membership Giveaway!
In 8 months, it will be Christmas! That has no relation to this give away, but I thought I would let you know. Anyway, back on topic.

After seeing how quickly the Crunchyroll Guest Passes get snatched up, I thought people might like the chance to get a free 3 month membership to Crunchyroll. For those that don't know, Crunchyroll is one of the largest, if not the largest, subbed anime streaming websites around. Just about every show currently airing this season, is being streamed on Crunchyroll as well. With apps that allow you to stream to your smartphone, video game console, and your computer, it makes it very convenient to watch anime while supporting the industry.

For this giveaway, I have 2 Three Month Memberships to hand out.

How to enter: Simply reply to this post and type a number between 1 and 200. It's that simple. I will be using a random number generator to select our winners in a week.

You are limited to just one entry, meaning just select one number. Now, there is a way to get a second entry.

How to get a second entry: When you comment with your number, that counts as one entry. However, if you want a second entry, with a little bit of work, you can have it.

Tell us your favorite anime/VN/manga/LN and tell us why it is your favorite. It doesn't have to be a long explanation, just a short paragraph will do. After writing it out, include your second number. This is the only way to have more than one entry into the giveaway. You cannot enter more than twice.

If you decide to do two entries, your post should look similar to this.

Remember to pick numbers between 1-200.

So to sum up, to enter this giveaway, pick a number between 1-200. If you write me about your favorite anime/manga/VN/LN, pick a second number as well to increase your chances of winning.

Please do not pick the same number as someone else. If you do, I will PM you asking you to change your number. Should, by some small chance, we have more than 200 number selections, I will increase the range and allow everyone to re-select their numbers. There will be two winners, so no, you cannot win both memberships.

The drawing will be held on May 5th around 11pm Eastern Standard Time.

If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message.

    The claimed numbers are: 1, 2, 6, 25, 36 42, 46, 50, 64, 75, 88, 93, 123, 130,143, 150, 176, 180

    Hey.

I own 63 VNs all imports from japan.

For almost all games, go to amazon.co.jp or Getchu.com, then find the link to the game you want, then email that link to http://yokattaweb.jp .
they will then email you back with an invoice. Just follow the instructions from there.

If you want tokuten, you have to select the right store that provides you with the desired goodies. Usually Sofmap has the best, but sometimes getchu and amiami has better.
Tokuten is only a pre-orders thing. (w/ exceptions)

Also note that sometimes these games are available as digital downloads. the prices for digital copies are sometimes quite unfair (given the competition). hunt them down on the developer's website usually.

    Gameliner.jp is one. http://www.gameliner.jp/ Theyre doing a 50% sale on all KID titles (ever17, remember11, never7)

    Also see relentlessness' blog http://www.relentlessness.com/blog/2011/11/a-guide-to-importing-japanese-merchandise-part-3c-video-game-shop-guide/

KnightFire reacted to solidbatman in Rin's Mysteries
About a week ago, Tay put out a call for VN plot ideas. Well I am here to announce that a writing team was formed, a plot nailed down, and a studio was formed. Project Rin Studios is proud to officially announce it's debut visual novel, "Rin's Mysteries"

"They're onto us." A worried voice broke the silence. "The firewall is down. Someone has access to the files."
"What?! But the artifact?!" came an alarmed reply.
"It's already been decided. We had no other options..." the voice trailed off.

Rin has been alone for as long as she can remember. After her parents died in an accident, her life has been one of isolation. Confined to her grandfather's shrine, her only comfort is Minchi, her best and only friend, who has lived with her for as long as she can remember. Save a few memorable exceptions, Rin has never been allowed to leave the Shrine. On one summer day all of this changes, however, when her grandfather unexpectantly asks, "Rin, how would you like to go to school?"

Across the town, an orphan returns to the town of his birth. He's come for answers. Always moving from one town to another, always awkward, and always an outsider, he makes a personal resolution: "This time, it will be different." Little does he know, standing at the bottom of the hill leading to a local shrine, that his wish will soon be realized. "Just give her the survey, introduce myself, and don't do anything stupid."

As he climbes the steps he hears what sounds like a girl singing. "Shes singing?" he wonders as he reaches the last steps. His gaze is drawn to a girl sitting under a tree with her eyes closed, softly singing to herself.

Hello, I am Kazameltis and I'm currently recruiting capable translators for the fan translation of X-change 2 Alternative.

For a long time Peach Princess has licensed the X-Change series. Many fans waited and hoped that Peach Princess would do the same with the 5th installment in the series. Unfortunately, they have decided not to go through with the project due to some issues with a few routes containing lolicon. As well as their contract with Crowd finally came to an end and wasn't renewed.

So, it has been 5 years and no news of Peach Princess ever starting or announcing a translation. It's time to take initiative and do the project ourselves.

We plan to only provide a patch and are not promoting piracy or condemning it.

Let me make something clear, anyone who wants to help out can still join even if the positions are filled />/>/>/>/>/>/>/>/>/>/>/>/>

    We are currently looking for:

If you don't like Nukige, no problem, you can skip those scenes
