  1. On the Muv-Luv Kickstarter they posted an survey what people want to see next from âge! Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/muvluv/muv-luv-a-pretty-sweet-visual-novel-series/posts/2739853 Survey: https://forms.gle/NE3hnyxp9YWMygk1A They ask explicitly " Which among our game titles are you looking forward to the most to be localized in English* next?" The offer the choice between Schwarzesmarken, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, Muv-Luv Unlimited The Day After, Muv-Luv Alternative - Total Eclipse or another work of your choice. So what should we rally behind?

  3. Are those books good? I've tried to read Basilisk Station like 3 times but I always stall out. On topic: I'd like to see localization companies stop making discretionary edits to "problematic" content.

  4. Gaming: I hope PC to play a bigger role for games from the jap. region, aside from VNs too as I try to get away from consoles again. At the AAA market I wouldn't even know where to begin, but I would hope for Live service and MP-focus in formerly SP-focused games to completely disappear if that were realistic. Anime: More complete stories would be nice.... VN: I really miss big, VNs with a "heavy" story (I can't find a better term). There still are good ones, but somehow I get the feeling that most of them are currently too short and/or shallow. I hope that changes at some point.

  5. Steam being a more reliable platform for otaku media. Streaming services for anime not being completely useless in my region (Eastern Europe). That's pretty much it. I don't have many complaints with how things were the last decade, to be honest. I guess the AAA gaming market was a massive shitshow, but I don't think I care at this point. Most of the stuff I still have any kind of emotional connection to is indie, or old enough that it came out before the unreasonable monetisation and other mainstream-publisher abominations came to be. *shrug*

  6. VN: The House in Fata Morgana. I believe, no comments are needed at this point. A year ago I would most likely choose Subahibi, but, thinking about it, it has way too many things that I personally don't really like. Anime: Shinsekai Yori. It's a rather strange postapocalyptic story which may seem a bit random at first, but in the end provides really unique and self-contained experience. It also has one of the best endings I've seen in an anime so far. I don't think I've seen any anime from the last decade that I liked more. I don't really read manga much, (at least, not particularly good manga) so skipped. As for LNs/WNs, while I've been reading quite a lot of them recently, I don't think I've found any 10/10 LNs yet. As for my personal favorite, I guess I'll go with a relatively niche one called Shini Yasui Kōshaku Reijō to Shichi-nin no Kikōshi, because it somehow manages to combine everything I like in fantasy novels, like good world building, interesting and not particularly over the top characters, well written action, and intriguing mystery.

  7. VN: Evolimit Anime: Overlord JRPG: Tales of Berseria Book: Honor Harrington series (I started it this decade, lol) Evolimit is the VN made this decade that I come back to the most. Yes, I love Light's games, but Evolimit has more great scenes and moments while being more accessible for normal people (instead of crazy text-addicts like me) so it is easier to talk about with other people. Overlord's setting and characters, with the weird balance between humor and evil, have kept me fascinated enough to actually pick up an LN of my own will for the first time (I have had LNs thrust on me in the past). Tales of Berseria left an impression that this mostly JRPG-dead ten years has generally failed to do, at least for me. It brought back what I liked most about jrpgs while also managing to stand out from the tired norms that are endemic to the genre. For the most part, the last decade has been a dead zone for good jrpgs, with only the Trails series still providing a solid first-line experience. Honor Harrington has been a gift to me, as a sci-fi addict. With a saga spanning over thirty years (at this point) just in the protagonist's lifetime (there are other side storylines that go far in the past) and a powerful cast of characters with lives that aren't sidelined by the action, I can't help but love this series. Games in general have not really impressed me over the last ten years. Most of the promised advances have not materialized, and for every step forward, it seems like another step and a half back have been taken. I suppose it is because so much emphasis was placed on the multiplayer experience over the last decade that solo games have taken a backseat...

  8. Visual Novel: If My Heart Had Wings/Konosora- Helps I was part of the Retranslation project as QC/testing but it's one of the best uplifting, wholesome stories I've ever read. Anime: Dragon Ball Super- Seems like a kinda mixed reception but I loved almost everything about it and it was almost everything I wanted in a true Dragon Ball Z sequel. Manga: My Love Story/Ore Monogatari - Kinda ties in with the anime but it was a very wholesome/funny story. Unlike anime actually had an ending. Game: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - Smash Bros is my favorite series, every game is an improvement somehow, and theres just too much good stuff.

  9. VN: Mahou Shoujo (lifelike characters and interactions) Anime: Simoun (could not expect an anime like this, it's like a moody space opera with character development) Manga: N/A LN: Mushoku Tensei, it made me think about what it would be like raising a family. Grimgar: Has influenced me a lot over the years. Serious party combat isekai ftw.

    What are you playing?

I liked Amber Quartz, but while I felt it was pretty good, it didn't go that extra mile into "this is special" territory. That has been NekoNeko / Cotton Soft's problem. Giniro was amazing, probably the closest thing to a perfect game I'd ever played... but they just couldn't keep it up. Some good games that just don't hit top tier, mixed in with mediocre-to-bad games and floods of fandisks/mahjong releases. Amber Quartz, like Mizuiro or Reconquista, just didn't have enough to make it stand out. I would be nice if more people would recognize the quality hidden there, but the past 10 years have enough as good or better releases that it seems unlikely.

  11. VN: House in Fata Morgana Manga: Toriko, because the last 20 or so chapters of the series were an absolutely crazy experience. Anime: One Punch Man Season 1, boring answer but i just loved the comedy and animation in it.

  12. VN of the decade's gotta be the one I simultaneously never shut up about and also never say anything about, Subahibi. I don't read manga so I'll abstain from that category. I also only recently got into anime, so I'll abstain from that category as well. Game of the decade's gotta be Just Shapes and Beats!

  15. https://files.catbox.moe/8difuh.rar I only tested this with their newest game, and it requires python 3. Run extract.py in the game's base folder to extract all the archives, the game script should be in FGN_TADD as a txt file. Edit the script however, and put compress.py in that folder and run it. It'll make the new script, and a new archive from the files in that folder, which you can use in-game. Unfortunately it looks like the game just takes all ascii text as commands, and doesn't actually print it at all: There may be some in-built way around that in their format though, I'm not sure. You'll have to play around with it I guess.

    Altruistic VN Protagonist

I second Little Busters, and add CLANNAD to the list. The latter is exactly what you are asking for, and although pretty heavy on the feels, all routes have good endings.

  17. First one that comes to mind is Karenai Sekai to Owaru Hana. The protagonist of this VN is completely altruistic, nearly to the point of madness. The degree to which he loves the three heroines and his willingness to give of himself for their sake is enough to make me start crying just remembering it. Evolimit's Shiranui Yoshikazu is definitely altruistic in the greater sense. His decision as a child after 'meeting' Kokoro, his friendship with Shizuku, his relationship with Ritia, and his choice of how to live in order to be with Kazuha... in all the paths and in the course of the main route, he proves again and again that, under his mild perversion and manzai routine with Shizuku, his first thoughts are always of others. There are no unavoidable bad/normal endings in this VN. However, I will say that all the endings have their own flavor. Nanairo Reincarnation's protagonist proves his altruism again and again at the important parts of the VN, though it is mostly directed at the spirits of the dead. There are some sad endings to this, but you aren't required to read them, lol. The protagonist of Haruka ni Aogi, Uruwashi no (Tsukasa) is altruistic in the sense that he tries to be the ideal teacher to the girls of the school, even after he learns what kind of school it is. This part of his nature comes from his own personal trauma, but it still is his nature. Natsuiro Recipe is probably the one I would recommend the most for just being restful... the protagonist is altruistic and good-hearted, willing to act for the sake of a girl he'd never met. The Vn itself is pretty peaceful and cute, which is why it made its way onto my Chicken Soup for the Soul list. The protagonist of World Election is altruistic, while not seeming so at first. He honestly doesn't think of what he does as helping others, merely doing so naturally without having to consider it. Lovesick Puppies is the last one I have for this list of recommendations... it is a charage, but the protagonist is fundamentally altruistic, tending to put the wellbeing of others before himself, actually taking action to make it happen. This can be seen the most in the common route. This one and Natsuiro are the two most mild on this list. If you want catharsis, I recommend you hit up Uruwashi no, Nanairo, Karenai Sekai, and/or Evolimit. If you want inspiration, I'd go for Karenai Sekai or Evolimit. If you want just to see normal people being normally altruistic, Natsuiro, World Election, and Lovesick Puppies are my recs.

    Altruistic VN Protagonist

    * Kono Oozora (If My Heart had Wings) . Pretty lighthearted. One of the more uplifting reads I've read. * Aokana . Another VN about flying. Pretty lighthearted, with some hype flying duels. * Little Busters . Really nails that "bunch of best friends" feel. Has some tearjerker scenes, but no dark themes. Music is really good.
