  1. The thing with about tsunderes is that if they're not written properly, they can come off as terrible and bitchy characters. In order to create some form of endearment, these types of characters have to either be toned down to only be moderately mean (Kurisu and Rin), have some kind of justification for their behavior (Taiga and Lucia), or show some capacity for kindness (Misaka and Hinagiku). Although with that being said, I can't really imagine that many prominent tsunderes who don't fit that category, and the ones who don't probably belong to anime that have more issues than just poorly written tsundere characters. When I think back to the tsunderes I came to love, I feel that I can still justify my attachment to them because this is such an effective trope for romance writing when done well. To me, there's something quite spectacular about a girl who puts up a powerful emotional barrier only to have to crumble entirely as soon as they're able to expose their weak side to someone they've fallen in love with. It's something that I feel provides for a compelling relationship that is likely to stick with me for a very long time. Of my top 3 romance stories in otaku media, Lucia's route in Rewrite stands at the top, and the Toradora anime is ranked 3rd.

  3. Second thiiiiiiiiiiiiiis! Nothing like a good tsundere whose "tsun-ness" either vanishes or weakens a lot~ It's twice more adorable and satisfying when we do get to see this new dere side! But I do agree that a lot of tsunderes aren't that good written, mainly those flipant modern tsundere ones. They never mellow so it feels a bit tiring and that the relationship is not going anywhere. Then again, like Dreamysyu said, all deres have their set of problems when they have as much depth as a puddle. I'm not a fan of kuuderes who are too uncaring either.

  4. I have the rare perspective of a person that is at best mildly turned on by most hentai and I confirm that it's hard to be anti-censorship on principle alone. Especially when you'd prefer for a lot of that stuff to be gone anyway, as it's rarely anything else than boring/annoying. ;p At the same time, this whole discussion is quite curious, because I have a lot more doubts about whether the all-ages-only approach is as stupid with a gameplay VN such as Baldr Sky as it is with pure "waifu game" VNs. GIGA probably hopes to market it to a broader crowd than just VN fans and for that, even vague association with porn could make things complicated. It probably won't work, but for a developer, trying to compete with games such as Danganronpa or JRPGs, and not aiming at the ultra-niche VN fandom might sound like something worth a shot. It's not like you can reasonably argue having 18+ content is not a handicap when it goes to reaching distribution platforms and general visibility. Japanese companies often don't understand the Western market and do stupid stuff, but I don't think every instance of them cutting h-content is out of ignorance...

  5. Okay, I got it and checked it out quickly. It seems to be almost direct re-release of 1999 Otaku Publishing version. Script files are byte-for-byte identical, so no translation fixes Initial splash-screen has been changed from "Otaku Publishing" to "Fakku", there is separate exe file for windowed mode, and issues with running on modern Windows systems have been fixed. Manual has been converted from *.hlp format to html, but contents are the same, so you can read, that in order to load the game you have to put CD in the drive etc etc It's DRM-free - doesn't require Steam client to play. There are some leftover saves - almost as if this release was based on some pirate version Any price higher than the current would have been a rip-off, but for $9, it's passable.

As a matter of fact, we can see exactly what this looks like, because I constructed forehead-elucidating images long ago for some reason: Maybe I'll get around to examining the Sanoba Witch characters someday.

  8. I can't really compare them to anything else, because these two together with Moekuri are pretty much the only SRPGs I've played so far. Overall, I'd say, it depends on who you ask and on how you play. Starting with Aselia, I can't really say I found it particularly difficult, but it also wasn't easy at all. I mean, the gameplay is pretty straightforward, but there are a lot of small details to keep track of, and it actually took me more than one playthrough to realize how some things even work. On the other hand, it means that I actually managed to beat this game without even understanding the rules, so... At the same time, you definitely need to turn on your head to play it, and I've seen some comments online that some people found it too difficult to play. Another problem is that you can literally make the game unbeatable if you don't level up some of your skills before some points where stronger enemies start appearing. There were a few times when I had to load older save files and focus on leveling up different characters than I did at first. I think it only happened during my second playthrough though. The only bottleneck during the first playthrough was the battle with the dragon at the very beginning, and I don't think I had any real problems after that. Here's an example of the gameplay. It's the very first battle in the game. Compared to that, Seinarukana felt a lot easier. I mean, they added even more details to keep track of, but at the same time the game is just a lot more forgiving. The only real exception are some of the boss battles, especially early in the game. They might require some very specific strategies and might be a problem. Though, if you aim for S+ rank in all battles like I did, then it becomes challenging again just like Aselia was. PS. Well, I guess, I should also mention that getting used to the gameplay in Seinarukana will be a lot more difficult if you haven't played Aselia first.

  9. Well, I can't really say I understand your tastes looking through your VN list, so these suggestions are pretty random. Tokyo Babel: decent chuunige, currently at -75%. The House in Fata Morgana: must play, currently at -50%. Also, if you like Yumina, I might suggest Aselia + Seinarukana bundle by the same authors (currently at -56%). Just not that these two are mostly good for gameplay and not that much for story. I mean, I like the story in Aselia, but it's very rough and probably wouldn't work as well without gameplay. As for Seinarukana... Well, let's forget that it even had any story, okay?

  10. I'm quite surprised that Asuka landed 3rd place - would expect her to be on 2nd. As for others - it's Satouin for me.

  11. * Clannad. Especially since you rated Little Busters so highly. * I don't know how much of Muv-Luv you've already read, but Muv-Luv Alternative is highly recommended.

  12. I just made an account to say that I appreciate you guys working on this patch! I was super upset when I found out that this novel won't have a downloadable patch and heard that almost all hope was lost to restore the deleted scenes. When I recently found out about you guys working on it, I got super excited and can't wait (however long it takes) for you guys to finish! I'm also glad there are people like me who don't just see H-scenes as some sort of eye-candy but also understand the importance and relevance of them to the actual plot (I like to see the relationship of MC and the heroine progress to the next level, so to speak). Once again thank you and good luck!
