  1. cleans off dust Ahem, okay folks, what's uuuuuuup?!?!?! MaggieP is in da building!!! It's been a whole while, and while I still didn't graduated from my position of elusive shiny pokémon in the early gens just yet and I am very much still quite busy to handle multiple communities together with gacha, I decided to drop here this fine day to at least give you guys a big hello then a big bye and go my way. And while I'm here why not we chat and catch up over average quality tea? Do tell me what happened around these parts aside from the big warning of doom from Tay in the front page. I'm seeing new faces, new medals, new mods, and the same old shit all around, so whatever more did I miss? Do give me your worst barely intelligible tl;dr k thx bye* *This still isn't the big bye I mentioned yet, rest assured.

  2. Maggot Baits is something of a Holy Grail of dark eroge, highly anticipated guro fans within the Western VN community and often hyped as possibly the greatest achievement of the company that produced it, Clock Up. As one the most gruesome VNs ever produced, and quite likely the most brutal one ever brought to the West, it contains dozens upon dozens of violent sex scenes, all accompanied by intricate CGs, with small variations in them so numerable that they sum to nearly 2500 unique illustrations. All of that placed in a highly-unique, modern-fantasy setting populated by amazingly-crafted characters and tackling interesting philosophical and religious topics. While it’s pretty much the furthest possible thing from what I usually write about on this blog, few games intrigued me as much as this one, particularly after my inconsistent, but extremely interesting experience with Clock Up’s another famous title, euphoria. Everything I’ve heard about Maggot Baits suggested that it was both more extreme and overall better than studio’s other bestseller, and after reading it to completion, I felt the need to share my thoughts about it in detail. Both because it’s a pretty fascinating case of strengths and pitfalls of this breed of eroge, and to warn those interested in it as a piece of storytelling – while in many ways an incredible achievement, this game is extremely hard to recommend for a “normie” reader such as myself. Why is that exactly? Before I go into story details, it’s most important to deal with Maggot Baits’ greatest issue – its structure and general storytelling formula. This game is, at its core, a guro nukige and it’s incredibly dedicated to this template. It throws h-scenes at you at very consistent intervals, disregarding whatever might be going on in the story and sacrificing any sense of pacing or tension so it can constantly offer a new piece of violent hentai. Quite often, the scenes are not important for, or even directly connected to what’s happening in the plot, pretty much pausing the whole narrative to insert a new piece of fanservice. In this, it goes even further than euphoria, which did a much better job intertwining its scenes with the story and had a bit more restraint in the most dramatic and meaningful parts of the plot. Maggot Baits even goes to the length of adding a major side-branch in the first chapter of the story, which is nothing but 3-4 hours of futanari porn leading to a bad ending. All of it narratively empty and pretty much derailing your experience if you expect any kind of interesting reveals or a meaningful conclusion within it. I still don’t understand why it was a part of the main story, and especially inserted so early in the game, before you build any connection to the characters involved or can understand the full implications of what is happening in those scenes. 3. We still can't react with more than one emote, it seems. So I can't cry for the main site and say thanks for you welcoming me back in one go. So tearful reunion it is now.

  4. Hello people, some days ago I found a VN that caught my eye, but for some reasons I didnt save a link to VNDB and lost the track of it So I need your help to find it again if you are willing to help of course. I remember one of the CG of the game was a serious-looking-face blonde with something like a big scar or a tattoo on her back taking a shower, then some monsters similar to yokai appears and rape her. Also I think it is a military VN. Sadly thats everything I can remember, I know its a hard task but any help is welcome. Have a nice day!

  6. They obviously do care about all-ages content though. They have expanded to anime, light-novels and even mobile games. Advertising with the train company was also for the "anime" because you can't do that with porn just like Maitetsu showed us when their thing was cancelled. Harukaze believes that if they want to make it big then eroge is not gonna cut it. You need to appeal to bigger masses and I think Harukaze can do it with their IPs.

  7. Thanks for the review. I am glad that I passed on Maggot Baits, this title isn't for me, even though the story sounds interesting.

  8. I picked the second yes to be more unique, hi nothing's happened tbh; tay undeaded for a sec, realized a password he needed to do updates wasn't in a gdoc where it was supposed to be, tried to contact nay, nothing seemed to happen, died again basically the usual

  9. Nah, I read it but I just don't buy it. Harukaze itself obviously doesn't care about all ages at all and I don't really get why their rebrand Tokyotoon should, except for the translation studio not willing to deal with adult content. Besides that, they can always do the same like Sekai Project and stay 'totally' all ages by cheating in the porn through another brand.

  10. I don't think so. Wew man, that badge does suits you and makes you 12.1% sexier (also increases resistance against fire but eh who hacked the game to know that)~

  12. That's exactly the reason why I'm so irritated that they're selling the game so cheap. I'm pretty sure that they could sell more copies for even 2 - 3 times that price if they'd just have included the H-scenes. I mean, how expensive are those voice royalties just for the H-scenses? Greater than the whole rest of the voices + the entire translation + the whole management cost to localize the title? Seriously?! I mean, do they have the British queen doing an H-scene or what?

  13. The decision to throw out the H-scenes here is really irritating. I mean they offer the title dirt cheap for about 15 bucks and people will still be unhappy because of it. If they would have included the H-scenes they could easily sell it for 2 - 3 times as much and probably still sell more copies of it. But I guess it's the same problem like in Moenovels's case: they hired a translation studio that doesn't do adult scenes. Couldn't they just hire a freelance translator instead of Frognation Ltd.?! The title would have certainly sold good enough to offer the translator a fair payment. And considering the apparently not exactly tremendous salaries the competition seems to offer, it shouldn't have been difficult to find one. Not to mention that I doubt that Frognation Ltd. was such a cheap alternative. Can't they just a hire a freelance translator for an H-scene DLC?! They could at least offer a compromise and say that if the title sells good enough, they'll consider it.

  15. Congratulation for the release, and perhaps I'll try this seeing that the graphic is quite good looking. It's also interesting that this VN is essentially also have GL story, and that our Kepposhi (Controversy aside) is like to write GL story if we look at his works. PS - After seeing that Erogamescape's average score Umineko Chiru EP 8 at 58 just because of the ending, perhaps it should be for the best to not trust the score from there anymore.

  17. Yet Steam opened the floodgates for porn in a situation when they were in no way forced to do so by their financial situation or pressure from the community, pretty much only censoring content that could be deemed illegal – illegal due to decades-long legal crusade against paedophilic material that is based on very classic form of moral panic which is always in its core reactionary/conservative. Maybe my perspective is different specifically because I'm in this country where conservative ideologies have way bigger influence on my life. But generally, while the Sony case is probably the biggest one suggesting deep consequences of left-wing cultural movements scaring media companies into self-censorship... For the most part, actual customers and their money always win and it'd take some extremely radical shifts to "eradicate" Japanese popculture. The biggest, very real threat is the anti-child-porn hysteria personified in progressively-more-strict laws, which, once more, has very little to do with any "SJW" positions. Plus, it's not like the line of what's culturally acceptable shifting is a new idea. We're living, generally speaking, in times of unprecedented access to all kinds of media. Incredible freedom to consume whatever we like outside of anyone's scrutiny. People that want to genuinely change that or hate our favourite niches... I still have doubts if they have more to say than actual market demand. Sony's case worries me because of the influence it might have on eroge market and the all-ages versions of VNs that were always primarily aimed for PS... But you suddenly have Nintendo opening arms to more daring third party games and Switch is a gigantic market. Maybe I'm underestimating the impact of the culture wars... But really, both sides of them suck to such extremes that I can't force myself to take sides myself. I know the "all libs are Antifa" statement you spew makes me cringe as much as the most ridiculous leftist mischaracterisations of anime. At least I'm very sure this world will burn (quite literally) thanks to the beautiful capitalist order that gave us those decades of prosperity and stability before any communist utopia can take over. And I'm quite unlikely to run out of VNs or anime before the shit hits the fan. ^^

  23. Hey, you missed the part when we resurrected the main site for one week so it could die again, full of false hope. That was kind of brutal, like something from Maggot Baits. ... Welcome back, Maggie! Cool to see you again. ^^
