    What are you playing?

So I've decided to once again dramatically switch tracks completely in the tonal change department. I started playing Hoshi Ori Yume Mirai, and I have to say my fucking god is it so much better than Hatsukoi! Like holy shit, it's like the difference between night and day. Ryou is an actual character and not some frothing, slime excretion that was shat out by some deformed pestilence. The male best bud is not some loser pervert whose soul reason for being is to make the protag look better by comparison. Plus, he has an actual girlfriend! It's amazing! I pretty much like all the girls for the most part which was not the case in Hatsukoi (rip kyou and maya..you deserved better) Here are my initial impressions on them Ousaka Sora: She's cute and has blue hair so she already reminds me of another blue haired girl that I like so she's alright with me. Shinozaki Marika: On the spectrum of childhood friends I think she is pretty decent. I tolerate childhood friends a lot more when they have spent some time apart and not just lived next door to the protag since forever. I hope she doesn't pull some childhood promise shit though. Segawa Natsuki: She's a real spitfire and she reminds me of Sachi from Sharin No Kuni so I quite like her. Narusawa Rikka: More proof that moody girls with long black hair are my weakness Yukimura Touko She's also a real spitfire and she seems like she could have a nice teasing game going Okihara Misa: She's probably the character I'm least enthused about but she seems like she could be a little interesting. An there you have it folks

  3. In our obscure EVN market, there are rarely games or events that could be described as major controversies – even the most unfortunate releases or Kickstarter disasters usually don’t involve enough people and money to gather the attention of the community for a longer period of time or spark a mass backlash. Along with Aeon Dream Studios’ k-pop fan game debacle (a really amazing story of incompetence and borderline-fraud, if you care to follow it), No One But You is possibly the most controversial and polarizing EVN ever released. Appearing on the relatively-barren landscape of early 2015 and promising experience similar to the high-budget Japanese VNs, it sparked a lot of interest and hope for the second coming of Katawa Shoujo – an EVN that would not feel overly niche or amateurish, but actually capture the charm of beloved Japanese titles and rival them in its storytelling. The reality, of course, proved much more underwhelming. The unexpected Kickstarter success (the campaign reached over 1200% of the initial, $1200 goal) resulted in a highly upscaled and complex project, developed within just a year by then still-unexperienced Unwonted Studios. Involving a network of over a dozen writers and artists, and a heavily-rushed release (which was never moved from the initial KS campaign claim despite of many major features being added through stretch goals), No One But You was eviscerated by many reviewers, with Fuwanovel notably giving it lowest possible score in two separate articles, and received only a mixed reception from the readers after showing up on Steam on January 2016. In a way, it remains one of the most infamous story-centric EVNs, possibly only beaten by the cheap ecchi titles such as Sakura games in the amount of hate and ridicule it gathered. However, looking at it three years later and with all the fixes and additional content added post-launch, is it really that bad? Read the full article at evnchronicles.blogspot.com

  5. Well, that's honestly a scenario in which I'd really want to prevent causing random pregnancies...

  6. Clearly you never played I Walk Among Zombies. Its commitment to safe sex in a zombie apocalypse setting is really quite impressive.

  7. It’s difficult to decide what to showcase today, I hope it’s fine if I drop a whole bunch of pics: Here are some of the latest advancements: 1. The Roadwarden's world is growing! New areas are now also visible on the traveling map. 2. I'm currently writing a detailed scene for the ruined village that I've shared here before. The overall "exploration" system of this area is all set and done, and works completely fine. My later edits will surely change various areas and add some new content, but I'm happy about where this is going. 3. The shop screen is now much easier to comprehend and simply prettier. Thanks to the "Trade" button in the quick menu, you can also open the shop without having to choose a specific dialog option during a conversation. 4. The new section of the journal will now include NPC descriptions and, even more importantly, names. It's a solution born from necessity - I can't expect that everyone is going to remember all the character names and detailed information about them. 5. The dialogue I'm currently working on... Is referencing Scottish accents too cliche for fantasy writing in 2019? : P And, of course, new rewrites, bug fixes, new content, quests...

  8. in my opinion its been doomed from the beginning. honestly, and unless you´re a lucky fucker who´s got fairies writing the script at midnight, there´s simply no way sth good will come out of it without having at least some talent for writing. granted there´s also a massive mountain of garbage available in jp, but the vast majority doesn´t even dare declaring it as some sort of next level written whatnot, instead puts it on freegame and good is. this whole "let´s kickstart xy, cause i´m able to play with my dick - talent is for the simpleminded and there´s no stopping me" attitude is what ridicules those who really put their heart into it, eg. invertmouse, ebi-hime etc etc. no even wanting to touch upon the subject of releasing a barebone piece of rubbish, or getting mad upon being confronted with the ugly truth via reviews/blogbposts

  9. Well I would say that you better to just pick the available translation, seeing that Sekai might not be able to release this anymore or to put it nicely they need some more very long wait to be able to release it. Or if you still have some doubt then you can try it first, and if you didn't find any particular problem with the translation then you can continue with the available patch.

  12. * Princess Evangile . For a typical moege, it manages to have more drama then most. * To Heart 2 . I was recently in the same VN slump (getting turned off VNs by a lack of drama). Then I got hooked on this VN. Pretty light hearted, but has plenty of comedic drama (and sometimes actual drama on certain routes). * Sorcery Jokers . Probably a good introduction to the Chuuni genre. Lots of fight scenes. This is basically a cyberpunk Final Fantasy in VN form. * G-senjou no Maou . You will NOT get bored reading this crime thriller. Made by the same people from Sharin no Kuni. * Grisaia no Kajitsu . Has a larger then life cast, and tons of humor in the common route (the common route is very long and almost outstays it's welcome). Character routes have plenty of drama (and emotional punch, and dark themes). I've heard people compare this to Sharin no Kuni too.... * ef - a fairytale of the two . The first half is basically love triangle drama. The drama only manages to get more intense from there (has some dark themes too). * Muv-Luv Trilogy. Set aside a month of two in advance. Muv-Luv Extra is a fluffy comedic drama (character routes are weak though). Muv-Luv Unlimited changes the setting, and adds a lot of intrigue. Then comes Muv-Luv Alternative ....... which is absolutely loaded with drama, action, and emotional feels.

  14. After quite a long wait I have finally have the Grisaia complete box. This is the front of the box The back of the box The sides of the box The back of the things that houses the games as well as the soundtracks. The games and soundtrack The artbook (it is quite large) A random sample from the artbook (sorry for blurry picture, not really that steady when holding a camera). Extra items Size comparison with a regular DVD case and a normal japanese physical VN. As for the quality of this I would say it is amazing. It looks wonderfull and it has quite a lot of weight to it and just feel like an overall really high quality product. If I were going to nitpick some things I guess one would be that I think it would be nice if they had the small extra stories on disc, since they already had so many things on disc they should have just added one more (not a huge complaint though since they are only really short stories, <2 hours each according to vndb). Another thing is that the cover thing for The cleaning of grisaia light novel doesn't really seem to fitt perfectly (seems larger than it should be compared to the book). Though again these are just small nitpicks, overall I am really really satisfied with the quality of the box and glad I bought it even though it was really expensive.
