  1. The kai script is approximately twice as long as the vanilla 02 script (which, as I understand, is identical to the original Rance 2 script). Edit: Also, it's a pretty substantial rewrite, from everything I can see; definitely more of a rewrite than an addition.

  2. I have nothing to offer that can help, but I do have a couple of opinions on this topic. Whilst I ordinarily would add to the pile of 'don't become an editor if you aren't a native', for this particular field that are Visual Novels, I have to say: Go for it. There are so many good stories in Western VNs and even some fan translations that are simply unbearable due to how they use and misuse English. If your efforts end up alleviating these cases even a little, I'd say they were worthwhile. Maybe to some 'making crap a bit less crappy' doesn't sound like a goal, but I assure you, as part of the casual plebs that consume anything and everything without caring about the original material or anything like that, just that little bit of improvement makes a huge difference. All that said, dON't Do tHis tO yOUrSeLF.

  4. Roadwarden is an interactive fiction in which you explore and change a hostile, grim realm. Everyone knows to stay away from the wilderness. Most people would never risk a lonely journey. Roadwardens not only accept this struggle, they embrace it. They deliver messages, assist merchants, burn human corpses and, if possible, get rid of beasts and highwaymen. They live on the road, die young or retire early. It’s a dangerous job, but a respectable one. And it pays well. Main Features: Explore and change the world. Travel through a detailed fantasy setting filled with secrets, challenges and uniquely harsh lore. Have immersive conversations. To gain support of dozens of NPCs, you need to earn their trust during complex dialogues and sidequests. Create your own character through role-playing and decisions. Shape your background, abilities, beliefs and personality. Unveil the local mysteries. Investigate, use your wit and make connections to understand the true nature of this realm. Overcome your weaknesses. The wilderness is full of dangers and you can trust nobody. Find your path to success against all odds. You can find more information as well as the free demo on the game's website! So, what do you think? Have you got any idea how can we call this game's genre? : P

  5. I'm sorry to hear about your depression here, so hopefully you'll be able to get through your problem. As for the recommendations, I guess Seinarukana and Aselia should be fine enough seeing that both of those are gameplay VN (I know Seinarukana have sex scenes, but it's only a minor part and you can skip through the so hopefully it wouldn't be a problem). If you want more, there's Galaxy Angel trilogy as well. I hope my recommendations here will be useful here.

  6. i'm not a native english speaker, but i believe that editors should be natives, or highly good. they should also be... open-minded. translating to english is special, it's globalization rather than localization. we don't want to cute girls sound like jijis lamenting old age. editing academic papers on the other hand is different. it's highly formal, and standard, needs someone with knowledge of field. it can be done by non natives.

  7. Disregard "non-native English speakers shouldn't be editors" comment. While it's true that it's preferable for an editor to be native in the language they're editing text for, it's definitely not an absolute necessity. You can be good at editing even if you are not a native... as long as your English doesn't completely suck.

  8. Judging by your second paragraph, I'd say it is a fairly faithful adaptation. The story, be it the original or any of its adaptations, IS fairly unimaginative, and the author gets stuck, not to say becomes obsessed, with the idea of the suffering martyr, to the point the MC gets a bit of development early on, and then absolutely nothing for practically forever. What I personally found funny is that, very early on, tons of people realise that he's not the scumbag they're told he is, and he gets tons of support and the undying loyalty of his slaves allies, but every single conflict is basically him going into a rage because "the world is unfair and everyone hates meeeeeeeeee". It's the kind of cheap drama that really gets the blood pumping when you're a teen. To be fair, the original concept is pretty good. It's just that the author is incapable of doing anything that's not edgy af with the MC, or to have him grow past his first steps into "herohood". It probably doesn't help that the show tries its darnest to make the other heroes so uncharismatic and dumb, to the point that it's difficult to care about them both as potential enemies or allies.

  9. Watched the first 4 episodes of Falling of the Shield Loser. You know, for some reason, it doesn't feel like a very good adaptation of the original material. I read neither the original LN nor the manga, but it does feel a bit rushed. Overall, didn't like this anime. Didn't really buy the character development, and there's nothing that impressed me so far. Plus, the whole storyline where "everyone hates the MC, and the story always likes to remind us of how unlucky he is, while he is actually a good guy inside", feels kind of cheesy and not very interesting to follow, at least for me personally. So, I guess, I have a strange masochistic desire to continue watching this to see if it gets any better, but, to be honest, I should probably drop it here.

  10. Collar x Malice it's an otome game with a whole criminal mystery (the MC is a police officer), it has a lot of heartwarming moments too and I loved it.

  12. Inorin

    What are you playing?

Intricate route system, (some) humorous bad ends, good story and huge emotional payoff. Definitely would recommend

  13. I know this feeling. It looks interesting at first, and you buy it, but then you end up postponing reading it since you're reading something else, and after some time you're no longer interested, and it just ends up collecting dust in your backlog for many years to come.
