  1. The relatively small market for Japanese VNs in the West is doing fine. The larger market in Japan seems to be tightening, likely due to shifting demographics, oversaturation, and lack of innovation.

  3. Roadwarden is an interactive fiction in which you explore and change a hostile, grim realm. Everyone knows to stay away from the wilderness. Most people would never risk a lonely journey. Roadwardens not only accept this struggle, they embrace it. They deliver messages, assist merchants, burn human corpses and, if possible, get rid of beasts and highwaymen. They live on the road, die young or retire early. It’s a dangerous job, but a respectable one. And it pays well. Main Features: Explore and change the world. Travel through a detailed fantasy setting filled with secrets, challenges and uniquely harsh lore. Have immersive conversations. To gain support of dozens of NPCs, you need to earn their trust during complex dialogues and sidequests. Create your own character through role-playing and decisions. Shape your background, abilities, beliefs and personality. Unveil the local mysteries. Investigate, use your wit and make connections to understand the true nature of this realm. Overcome your weaknesses. The wilderness is full of dangers and you can trust nobody. Find your path to success against all odds. You can find more information as well as the free demo on the game's website! So, what do you think? Have you got any idea how can we call this game's genre? : P

  4. I'm glad it looks interesting to you! : D I'll avoid RNG world generation and focus on making a single playthrough (even though it'll involve many decisions and branching) as fun as I can. I generally think that refreshing the game through world randomization is something that should be left for the games that are focused on gameplay or player's own imagination which fills the canvas by itself, and I'm more interested in storytelling and worldbuilding. I myself usually play various games only once, and I think it's OK to have games that are not meant to be played for 80+ hours. : P I won't dive into romance. Rather friendships, since they interest me much more... And taking sides. Manipulation. Calculating your approach to various NPCs and role-playing through these decisions. I want to think about dialogues as a part of the core fun, not just a plot delivery tool. Having dialogues lasting for 5, 10, 15 minutes are something to expect. : ) I had in mind forming parties, but right now I think I should not add it as a minor feature, but rather make it a core of another game.

  5. Yes, wait for it. The original game isn't bad, but it has less features and the porn is comically bad (Our guy Hakuowlo can even last longer than a minute). Besides, the fantranslation isn't as good, quality-wise, as the official translation of uta2/3, and I honestly believe NISA can do a better job than Takajun.

  6. I would wait. I'm sure the new version will tie into the others better. I've only watched the anime and a lot of it didn't really make sense so don't hang me if they're perfect sequels already.

  7. There aren't any h-scenes in the Japanese version of the remake either, so there won't be any cut content unless Sony demands censorship due to Sony reasons.

  9. One of the big reasons more Japanese VN companies are looking for an 'in' in the US market is because the moege/charage market over in Japan is saturated and generally in decline. One reason we are seeing declining Steam sales is because most people tend to go for the uncensored versions that they don't allow, so they hit up the company stores instead of Steam. The other reason is that the market here isn't growing as fast as the number of new VNs being released. It isn't like the average income of a western VN-gamer has suddenly increased to match the output, after all.

    What are you playing?

Been reading Sakura Sakura . A good comparison would be if Fureraba crossed with Princess Evangile. Nothing serious, but quite light hearted comedy ..... with Love Triangles. Yep

  11. True story driven vn's are a rarity now though. Mostly just moe crap and vn's which tries to tell somewhat of a story while being moe crap first.

  12. When you're in Japan, what about joining the official eroge racing association?! I guess my favorite cars would be the following ones... I'd probably die of embarrassment driving in one, but it would be so worth it!

  13. That project is dead and has been for a while. @CryingWestern was the guy behind it but he hasn't said anything in years and the project website has been taken down.
