  1. Uhhh, this might be true if you just look at moege, but in better plotge, some otome and much of yuri you'll easily find female characters with actual agency and whose actions have clear moral weight. The picture is not this black & white. Just don't expect a "breakthrough" when it goes to typical eroge - those games are like this because they cater to very specific needs of a very specific audience, and deviations from the formula rarely pay off for them.

  2. Hello, I'm attempting to translate some Tanuki Soft games, the game I'm testing right now is Shoukoujo. So far I've been able to extract all the files using Garbro and since the game reads files from folders inside the installation folder without needing to repackage them I've also been able to insert edited images. The problem I'm having is with the .bcs script files, I took a look at the script files from Hatsukoi by Rune and I noticed they seem to share the same engine, both games use .bcs script files and if I open the files on a hex editor they seem to have the same header. Given how Hatsukoi has a fan translation where the .bcs files were converted to plain text saved as .csv, I believe doing the same for the script files of Tanuki Soft games would allow me to translate them. My question is if there's anyone who can point me to where I could learn how to decrypt the .bcs files into plain text, maybe a way to reverse engineer the encryption given I have the original and decrypted files from the Hatsukoi patch, I would also like to know if there's anyone here from the Hatsukoi translation team, or anyone that knows what tools they could have used, that could maybe help me out. Thanks.

  4. I'll just seconded what Clephas stated, and if I want to add more it would be better to not expected any romance at Phantom Trigger here because the writer is Fujisaki Ryuuta, and from what I read I think his writing of Yuuji at Rakuen was lacking of romance to put it frankly. Both Phantom Trigger and Rakuen here is kinetic VN, and seeing that each part of Phantom Trigger only focused on the mission (Along with the heroines dark pasts) I agree that the chance of romance is quite small. As for harem sex scenes, at least I'm 100% certain that we won't get that in Phantom Trigger here, simply because we have the name like Kaori Nazuka or Sakura Ayane for the casts. So I think unless FW want to change the casts to allow the sex scenes, it simply won't happen. For the info usually famous seiyuu in Japan would use pseudonym for voicing eroge, and in here we have the seiyuu did use their real name which mean FW already intened this as all age VN. While I did say the sex scenes is impossible, it's still possible for them to make a big finale like Rakuen although obviously we don't know when for now. PS - Even though I rarely follow this, I'm still hope that FW will release both of their next two volumes (Volume 5.5 and 6) so that we can have complete story here.

  5. Foreword: A bad-ass cover and cyberpunk setting is all that it took to interest me. Title: D.U.O. ~Song for All~ Developer: Panda House Date: 2002-04-26 VNDB link:https://vndb.org/v2235 Youtube walkthrough:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ttjs7mdDS3Q&list=PLs4Gp5VU4Fv_0xb07WK6DgqoNosWs_kET Synopsis: It happened on December 25, 2001, right after the new century began. It was the biggest and worst disaster in human history, "Apoptosis Crisis." A virus called "apoptosis" begins to destroy human cells. 80% of the Earth's population is killed and the people who survive try their best to revive civilization. A century has passed, and it is now the year 2099 in Tokyo. Something is happening in this big city, where many kinds of ethnic groups reside. The network junkies, called "jugglers," suddenly die an unnatural death. The cause of death is still unclear. However, it is apparent they were all on computer networks when they died. Takuya Takahashi, who is a professional investigator, a "Runner," is asked to investigate the case, and he starts investigating this dangerous disease, without even knowing much about it? Structure: 12+1 chapters. Length: 7 hours for one route, but second route is almost the same. Game type: Cyberpunk detective mystery Difficulty: Easy, we move on if exhaust all options Character Design rating: 9/10 Protagonist rating: 10/10 Story rating: 9/10 Game quality: 10/10 Overall rating: 9/10 Rating comments: The only question for me is whether it's 9 or 10. I totally like the game, but story overall and the heroines in particular appear to me with flaws. Protagonist: Takuya is great. He has face and hard-boiled personality. At the same time, not everything is clear about his personality that happens to content quite the depth. Characters: Hitomi and Itsumi are main heroines of the game. These is also mysterious girl Sophia that exists for plot purposes. Can't say anything bad about Hitomi or Itsumi, it's just sad that the difference in their "routes" is just choice of who to H, not much character development. Story: Synopsis actually covers all I could tell. I can only hint that story tackles genetic and cyberspace a lot. I'd really like it to be more focused on actual virus and deaths, but most of the time we just hang around with girls stumbling upon important events at times, so resolution feels forced. CG: Loving CG here. Lots of motion in the interface. I especially appreciate those several animated moments used for underlining charm of the heroines, and NOT in H events. Sound: Game is called "song for all" not for nothing. There are a lot of vocal parts in here. Very enjoyable. Everyone but protagonist is voiced, and that includes all the male characters. Thoughts: The title "D.U.O. ~song for all~" contains two spoilers itself, but luckily you only get to know why late in the game, so there is that "a-ha" moment. No idea what "D.U.O" stands for, but the word "duo" already gives an important hint. I really appreciate when title gets to say so many things about the game. Overall comments: Absolutely magical game. Great direction and use of interface make an impression of a futuristic world, can't really believe game dates back to 2002. I was treating Cat's Pro quite favorably, and it's joyous for me to see Heart Heat Girls concept being reborn in such way by the successor Panda House. Game's very nice while it lasts, but it's quite gentle-minded and lacks impact, so it gets average or poor scores by the Japanese. I absolutely can't understand how the Japanese manage to bury the best representatives of the genre with their own hands.

  7. Little progress report about this preparation work - I've done seven chapters so far (in terms of line count, that would be about 45-50%). While doing this, I'm still discovering some new mistranslations/rewrites. The one pictured above will probably require reordering of dialogues - if Meimi is currently chatting with Kyouko, it makes no sense for Kyouko to approach MC the very next second, so I'll have to move that bit somewhere earlier. (Or insert universal "............................................." line inbetween ) *Originally all of this were responses for Look/Talk commands, so the order was dependent on player's choices. While doing my port, I decided on the order of these scenes relying only on translated script - thus some incosistencies are inevitably coming out when attempting retranslation.

  8. It depends. If it's a plot heavy VN with probably a recommended route order, I either follow it or guess it myself (it's usually not that hard to guess tbh), and when it doesn't matter, I do my best girl first so that way I won't be thinking about how much I want to read her route already when I'm on someone else's route. And sometimes, I just choose on the spur of the moment, like Grisaia, I was hesitating the whole common route between Sachi and Michiru only to end up on Amane's first.

  9. I remember Tsugumi's route in Ever17 being incredibly impactful and memorable for me especially the moment when I got to find out why was the way she was. Honestly, I thought it was much more shocking than the revelation at the end but maybe that's because I hadn't encountered a character like that before. Tomoyo's ending during her route in Clannad is still the best endings to a route that I have seen and man, oh, man did it get the waterworks going. (Happy tears but tears nonetheless) I also picked the perfect song for it which really elevated the ending still further

  12. I searched through my magazines and I found this one covering nearly every eroge from 1982 till 2000 with the most influential and popular getting bigger coverage. This may be something for you. It's called: パソコン美少女ゲーム歴史大全1982-2000 The first 25 pages are featuring the most popular eroge from 1982 till 1996 which essentially means the timespan before eroge went to Windows. Obviously, there are also many hidden gems which aren't popular but nonetheless quite good. Ushinawareta Rakuen is one of those. Nearly every game by Fairytale is good, especially the two Fairytale Hardcover games Necronomicon and Ballade for Maria. Elf, Silky's and Mink are companies spawned from Fairytale so you will find many good games here too. I also like Fairy Dust. Maybe you have seen the Anime Cream Lemon with its many short storys? Fairy Dust is the company behind this series and they also made many eroge which are often sequels to the anime episodes. I also like Jealousy (made by Interheart). Good story, great animations. There are also many good RPGs and non-H visual novels. There is also a version of this game for FM Towns. Sadly, it's only a floppy version without any improvements over the original.
