  1. Unrelated to the topic, but I'm afraid you have a very poor understanding of what science is. Science does not "tell" people anything; it's a process based on experimentation, empiricism, and induction that people interpret. The reason why our understanding of the world keeps changing is because science itself is based on constant reiterations of experiments to get more accurate results. I mean, the human mind is still pretty limited, so the technology and methodology we create won't get all the answers, so we have to check things over and over and push ourselves to experiment more. If we didn't, we wouldn't be as advanced as we are today. Back on topic: As other people have said, the way we perceive porn and sexuality is a lot more nuanced than we realize. It's very deeply ingrained within our psychology, and due to pressure from culture, it gets molded and repressed into numerous forms. Ignoring the sex aspect of it, if you try to simplify what ntr is, it's a power struggle between 3 people: the thief, the one being thieved, and the one being thieved from. Theft is a type of violence, specifically, violence towards someone's property. From this, we can glean two things: ntr can be understood in terms of violence, and the one being thieved is acting as an object. Humans are predisposed to fascination with violence. Most of our history is based on war, ingroups/outgroups, and competition. We fill fiction with all sorts of violent content. The entire appeal of storytelling relies on overcoming a conflict. It's easy for us to laugh at other people's suffering, and we are more than happy to ostracize and bully those who are weak and estranged. Sexuality is also affected by this (even in other animals): specimens fighting each other for a mate, aggression during copulation, killing or neglecting children sired by another, isolation of sexually deviant specimens, shaming, the list goes on and on. Violence is thrilling to us, so we go out of our way to seek it. With ntr, it's easy to see what role it plays. It's the thrill of seeing something ripped away from where we think it's supposed to be and watching it being ruined and corrupted. These stories often involve rape, mindbreak, torture, depression, and jealousy. People have a multitude of ways of responding to this. In my experience, only a minority of ntr consumers are actually masochistic. The violence in ntr can also be enjoyed through schadenfreude. People love watching the girl getting destroyed, the cuck fall into despair, and the sheer brutality of partner stealing. From this perspective, it's not weird or deviant at all. It's pretty normal to love seeing others get hurt. Something that particularly interests me is the fixation on the cuck's depression and jealousy rather than the girl's suffering. I've met a lot of hentai fans that enjoy seeing girls getting hurt in sexual situations to the point where female suffering is practically accepted as normal within hentai circles. I've seen many people praise netori despite it also being based on cheating. I think this reveals a lot about how people perceive the pain of others. Humans are inherently selfish, and we interpret the world according to our own interests. People are projecting and equating themselves onto the cuck and get frustrated when they don't act the way they imagine how they would act. They interpret the fiction according to their own reality, and it in turn reflects the way they perceive the world. wait what the fuck am i even talking about. pretty sure im just rambling at this point, sorry for the long post ._.

  2. Oh dear, someone with exactly the same experience as me then. Looks like it wasn't necessarily the fact it was a heavy drama novel after all responsible. It was the shift in tone and execution at fault. If you went in expecting nothing but drama (and enjoyed or preferred that) then it probably would have been fine. Looks like I'm relegated to only playing charage and moege for the rest of my life, and that doesn't bother me one bit. Might even be good news for people who want stuff like that translated that other translators are not interested in tackling, as I might.

  3. Much like Mr. Tiag of Poltroon, the main thing I liked about Grisaia was the common route... in fact, that's so true that I only ever played one route (Sachi's, basically just because it was the first option), which I didn't like, and then I've never gone back to the game since. The common route comedy consistently delivered for me, and I laughed out loud a lot, but then when I actually saw a route, I just got nothing from the game anymore. I keep telling myself I'll go back and play more, because the girls were fun, but it's been a few years now, and it doesn't seem likely to happen at this point...

  15. I find it difficult to get all emotional and worked up over a visual novel without investing a lot of time into it, and I'm not the type of person to just break out in tears over something sad. granted I haven't read any of the higher rated shorter / kinetic novels such as Planetarian or Eden*, but I will eventually. I recommend: Grisaia no Kajitsu - This was my first true visual novel, and if it doesn't make you shed tears of happiness or sadness, then expect to shed tears of despair during certain routes. Subarashiki Hibi - I just finished it this month, and man was it a trip. It's ridiculously over the top with drama and has a ton of explicit content. That's saying very little though, to say more would otherwise be spoilers. The message is clear at the end, and it had me in tears. I feel ya for key though, I read Clannad and Little Busters, and I've never cried so much in my entire life. Clannad had me fall apart like 10 times. Little Busters made me break down for 2 weeks It's difficult to find media with the same effect. If you're interested in something outside of realm of vns, I recommend you play NieR:Automata, if you haven't already.

  16. Well we already have discussion thread for Chrono Clock, but I guess another one can't be hurt here. As for Miu here, I agree that even the prologue didn't focused on her much despite I call the prologue as Miu's arc. Mostly because our focus was distracted by Makoto, Michiru, and Misaki introduction there. Not to mention the ongoing love square plot that happen at the prologue, so poor Miu did got lesser focus in the prologue. Oh and I didn't agree with mod Clephas called Miu as the second main heroine there because she didn't have much role in the routes, and if I want to nominate someone to be the second main heroine I would say that Michiru here should be good candidate there because she's been together with Rei since his childhood with Cro as de facto first main heroine obviously. Other than that, I'm quite content with the routes here.

  18. Yeah, it does seem to be a really fine line to walk... Honestly, I've recently found that I prefer kinetic novels, or at least non-traditional route structures. It kind of makes sense to me that it's just hard to tell five distinct, compelling stories with the same cast of characters, each of them focusing around a different one of them, vs. fitting together one really, really good story around your whole cast.

  19. Only 2 of the planned 5 episodes were released. Mangagamer hosted a pretty weird crowdfunding campaign (which definitely didn't look like total scam ) to back the development of the further episodes, but it was never finished. Basically, all sales of ef, eden and the first chapter of Supipara should've been used for the development and translation of the later episodes.

  23. I know this show's humour is not to everyone's taste (I personally find it great), but there are just so many cool touches and examples of the team behind it going above and beyond, I find it extremely impressive. Hiring a former "King of Love Songs" to sing their OP is just one of those brilliant moves and the song itself is really cool IMO - so unlike your typical anime music. ^^

  24. Read and finished Fatal Twelve over the last couple of days. I really liked it. Building a Battle Royale scenario around the regrets of people who already died, despite being not exactly revolutionary, is an interesting spin on the genre, allowing the storytelling to focus on the characters instead of action and suspense (although there still is plenty of both). And the characters (at least the ones that make it beyond the first few rounds) really are Fatal Twelve's strong suit, especially the ones who are framed as villains at the beginning. I wasn't that much into the love interest, but I think that's due to personal tastes and not bad writing. The only weak part in FT is its final act, which is too reliant on info-dumping and deus-ex-machinas. But it's not that long anyways, so I don't care that much.

  25. Its not as clear cut and black and white that we can say porn is porn. Regular porn has no story, vn's are usually story based with a touch of porn. It should never have been porn in the first place, just descriptions or softcore porn to keep it in line with the rest of the vn. Shy girls turning into absolute sluts, som3what jealous mc not wanting other men seeing his girl in swimsuits etc just to furiously bang said chick completely nude in the open saying stuff like "it doesnt matter if we get caught" etc a while later. Stuff like that completely breaks both characters and the flow of the story. I wish the writers were a bit more mindful of the story context being regarded in h scenes as well.

  26. Sadly, porn is porn. It's always oriented towards maximum visibility, with length and sequences focused on giving you a good fap rather than expressing something meaningful or staying true to the characters. That's why I think it's a damn shame there's so few softcore/17+ VNs with non-explicit erotic segments. Hentai as a formula is simply not compatible with having realistic/story-oriented sex scenes and in most cases, even the developers and writers of VNs don't pretend they aren't tacked-on fanservice. ^ and this, ladies and gentlemen, how I would lose 100 karma on r/visualnovels

    Data extraction thread

Just wanted to mention I've fixed a bug in the "vaconv" tool from RLDev (used for converting from and to the proprietary .g00 image file format of the RealLive and SiglusEngine game engines). The bug is that if a .g00 file contains multiple images, vaconv places these over each other in the resulting .png, leaving only the last image visible and the others obscured partially or completely behind it. This typically makes editing impossible. Some people have found a workaround involving Crass, screenshots, manual image stitching and RealLiveMax (the all-Japanese RealLive SDK)... But this is a quite involved process. Instead I fixed vaconv so it properly places the various images of a .g00 below each other in the output .png, allowing an editor to change all of them without the manual hassle mentioned above. (And by "fixed", I mean "rewrote from scratch in C++", since I gave up on trying to compile the original OCaml code after half a night) This new tool is named "vaconv-cpp.exe" to distinguish it from the original "vaconv.exe" in RLDev. ("cpp" for "C++") Example with a file from Hanasaki Workspring: vaconv.exe _config_system_hscene_select_btn.g00 vaconv-cpp.exe _config_system_hscene_select_btn.g00 Download (includes complete source code as a VS2015 project). VS2015 runtime is required.

  30. Okay dude, at this point you're just spamming the same thread over and over and over and over and over(17 times at this moment). Seriously, move to a different forum, the only posts you've made to date are "I'm Looking for harem hentai animation or visual novel or manga or doujinshi" or something very similar. Go to a hentai site for the love of all that is good as if 6 months of nonstop posting this hasn't already told you that nobody has a recommendation for you here, especially not hentai and doujinshi. Your posts span back to around AUGUST of last year and have been the same since then. Please stop making the same thread (honestly, I don't see how the mods haven't stopped you from being able to post this again). 4chan, hanime with the "harem" tag, nhentai with the "harem adventure" tag. Anything besides another thread that says "I'm Looking for harem hentai animation or visual novel or manga or doujinshi". Hell, even one of the site admins said that your thread title is too generic and broad. Oh and go try Sengoku rance and watch the hentai. Maybe it'll keep you away from the forum for at least a week. And it doesn't help that you're literally copy and pasting from a different site evident by the white highlight on your text.....

  31. Well, that's why I said it after "asserting". They're unheard of? I meant that ugly bastards are not defined as a genre. Most of Western porn, be it full feature or short microwave bits, feature some kind of typical 40-50 year old males who fall into the category of ugly bastards. It's pretty much a rule for Western porn to have a bad looking guy violate a girl. While hentai mostly features shonen-seinen with a percentage of ugly bastards in their respectful category. Studies and texts are a joke. Science told people that the Earth was flat some time ago and everyone believe it. Science would laugh at the idea of there being some form of life "out there in the skies" when we don't even know how big the universe is. Even now. Science tells you what has been confirmed... sort of, just like history tells you the things that have been found. Tomorrow they'll find an old set of bones that will change the way history is told. So, yeah... believe in science and "common sense". As of "man into NTR/rape isn't into committing a crime, please believe me!!!" - keep those lies to yourself. As I said, human thinking is simple and should not be looked into. You're after the illusion, after all... Will not follow up since you clearly responded to make illusions and avoid seeing the real deal.
